We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The tool for forecasting capacity is valuable.""Fewer vulnerabilities have been observed in the four years we have used the solution.""Mobile application is the most valuable feature for us. We can monitor all the storages on our phones. It's really good.""Has really nice roll-up dashboards.""The best thing about this solution is that you can check for the infrastructure and system updates that you might need to be compliant with the Cloud."

It gives the flexibility to discover data and metrics about my interface and data server.""This solution provides us with the needed feedback on our IT infrastructure. It allows us to grab all the information from a single point of view.""The solution is easy to manage and the reports are very accurate.""The most valuable features of PRTG Network Monitor are bandwidth utilization, user-friendliness, all past report simple retrievals, and timeout features. Additionally, if the solution does go down it is simple to bring it back.""It is easy to use and intuitive, which is really important. It does what it says on the box by giving you a visual of the state of what is going on at any one time.""The network visualization helps us to drill down deeper.""The most valuable feature of PRTG Network Monitor is the dashboards. Cons
"In terms of improvement, they should enhance the product range.""The reporting capabilities of this solution could be improved.""PowerScale is the only file system offered and that is limiting.""Supporting legacy systems is an area that can be improved.""Doesn't do well in terms of integrating with technologies other than Dell."

"PRTG's application monitoring sensor is not strong.""I would like to see more updates available in this solution.""They should work on syncing the solution with Gmail.""Its price can be better. Its price is a problem for us because it is in dollars, and there is a high conversion rate. In terms of new features, it can have BGP monitoring. It should also have a dashboard and maps editor.""They just released a newer version of the desktop app, a beta version, that I have been trialing out. I prefer the older version, only because of how the layout is designed""The free version only gives us 100 free sensors to use. It would be nice if there was double that.""It would be good if there were better graphical interfaces when you have it on multiple monitors... Because we have so many servers, things can get lost in the fog a little bit. Maybe having a better way of showing different geographies, Flash, etc., would help.""In a very few cases, customers want more detailed reports, which we cannot meet."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
