We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Dell PowerVault is cheap.""Dell PowerVault is user-friendly and easy to deploy.""I find this solution to be cost-effective in providing data storage for clients.""The storage has been good.""For us, the initial setup was easy.""The solution is reliable and stable.""I like the tool's CloudIQ feature.""It is an inexpensive storage solution."

"We also really benefit from the GUI capabilities.""The scalability is very good.""The initial setup is simple.""The product's most valuable feature is stability.""It results in more efficient storage utilization, cutting capital expenditure in half.""The valuable feature is the ability to work with the Veeam software to reduce the backup windows.""I think the most valuable feature is the catalyst technology, which is in the StoreOnce appliance.""Deduplication and compression are in a good ratio. It supports the HPE Catalyst protocol, which is much faster than NFS and other protocols. We use CommVault and Veeam, and these two solutions support the Catalyst protocol very well and are integrated at high speed. It is faster than normal access."

Cons
"In the next release, I would like the deduplication and compression included, as well as the flash technology. It doesn't currently use it.""PowerVault doesn't integrate with Active Directory. Other storage solutions offer SAN and NAS unified storage in a single appliance, but PowerVault is only SAN.""I would like Dell to improve on the configuration of the disk groups. Only one group is expandable. Once you configure the other disk group types, you cannot expand them. It limits scalability. If you want maybe to grow a disk group, you lose information, and then you need to build it up again, which is not a good use case for customers.""The product is generally stable, but there have been instances, to my knowledge, where we faced issues in the controller during software upgrades. The availability is not at the desired level during these upgrade processes, as we sometimes need to shut down both controllers. This could be an area for improvement.""We could set up the installation through a web server, but it's not very reactive on the web server. For example, when you launch a task, and you don't know exactly if the task has begun or if the task is in progress, or if it's finished. You have to wait for three to five to ten minutes to be sure that the task is running or in progress or finished. So at that point, it's not very good.""Sometimes integrating into a cluster can be difficult as you have to do it manually.""I would like to see improvements made to the user interface.""In most instances, clients are using Dell PowerVault with tape drives, but we want to transition them away from tape drives due to the risk of data loss."

More Dell PowerVault Cons →

"I would like to see an emphasis placed on making data deduplication and compression more powerful.""Cloud integration needs to be simplified.""improvement? HPE StoreOnce has a limitation with respect to controllers. Other tools offer more than one controller. I feel that the high availability of the view controller should be redundant. The tool’s control and UI part should be improved and made more advanced. The feature that helps with the manual movement of tapes should also be improved.""In terms of areas for improvement, I believe HPE StoreOnce could learn from competitors like Dell's Data Domain and ExtraHop in refining its architecture.""We would like to see some improvements in the Veeam Backup & Replication integration. It's good, but it has a lot of room to improve. In particular around the inability to easily move data between StoreOnce appliances.""The product's price could be better.""The solution must provide backup options for smaller capacities.""The solution would be improved if it could also be used as a data store for VMware."

You can offload the data to the HPE Cloud. It is a licensed product. We have got around 10 TB of cloud bank storage with a one-time payment. We specifically took 10 TB for very critical offsite backups. We can also increase it in blocks if needed."
  • "The licensing schemes could improve in HPE StoreOnce and the price is high. They should reduce the price."
