We performed a comparison between Dell SC Series and VAST Data based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Dell Technologies, NetApp, Pure Storage and others in All-Flash Storage."Running SAP on Pure Storage helps a lot without doing any further tuning to improve application performance. Our internal clients are happy."
"Simplicity and reliability are the most valuable feature of Pure Storage FlashArray."
"Has also helped simplify storage for us. The other person we put in there, took about a week to implement. And we had both arrays set up within around four hours with a thirty minute drive time between the two locations."
"It upgrades in place which means we'll be using it well into the future."
"As soon as we introduced our first Pure Storage FlashArray, the first benefit was at least twice the performance increase. Our production databases simply ran twice as fast with no other change."
"The most valuable feature is its data reduction."
"It's easy to use, and the maintenance upgrades to get free controllers work really well."
"The amount of data that I have moved to it from legacy storage has enabled us to retire units that are three or four times the physical size."
"The Dell support is helpful and the response is quick. The agents' knowledge is very good."
"The product offers good performance and is quite powerful."
"With auto-tiering, it's easier to understand than most arrays, knowing that all of your writes go to the tier that you specify, with easy-to-create storage profiles."
"A valuable feature is the performance of the auto-tiering. It will move hot data up to your fastest Tier 1 or move your slow data down. Data progression is what it's called. With the auto-tiering you can have multiple tiers, you can have your Tier 1 be either spinning or flash, all the way down to 7.2K. It will change the RAID on the fly so your writes come in at RAID 10. After they sit for a while, they get converted to RAID 5, then they'll cool off and move down the tiers. Your performance is kept going, while the cold data is moved to your slow, non-performance tiers."
"It is just as stable as any other high-end solution."
"It has been one of the most stable products in our data center."
"It is fast and performs well."
"There's some new stuff coming with 7.3, which just got released, where they're spreading the sparing across the whole array, rather than having a dedicated spare disk, and have it sit there and do nothing until one of them dies, and then it kicks in - and having to rebuild all of that. Now, they'll do the sparing across all the disks and they say that is going to add not only space but performance to the array, with 7.3."
"This has been one of the most reliable storage systems that I have ever used."
"The solution is useful for machine learning and scientific applications, including computer simulations."
"A year ago they promised that they would be able to read through the database encryption with more metric and they have not delivered on that patch, which is significant because it gives us back so much more storage room. We want to be able to read through the encryption."
"Pure Storage FlashArray could improve the recent file storage capabilities because it is lacking a lot of features."
"We would like to integrate it more with our backup solutions."
"Its price needs improvement. Its price is almost double than any other flash storage solution."
"It would be good to have metrics of the box's performance so we can see what it delivers, but currently, I can't see what it's actually doing."
"We need to add more storage in Pure Storage FlashArray with the cluster mode activated for us to have better performance."
"A minor issue that comes to mind is that, every once in a while, a hard drive will go bad."
"We would like to be able to connect to data tape for backup, specifically to the LTO backups."
"This solution could be improved if overall performance was improved and operated with a higher speed and supported a higher volume of RAM."
"Snapshots in VMware. You can’t do snapshots since the storage itself does that. Therefore, some apps (Veeam, for example) don’t work well with this kind of tiering storage."
"The lower model, the 3000, should have duplication. It doesn't right now. It's only from 5000 that this is offered, but it depends on the performance. It could be they don't offer it on lower models because the duplication is too much of a burden to the performance."
"The configuration could be easier in Dell EMC SC Series."
"I would like to improve the processing ability."
"I don't think the solution is very scalable."
"This product should be a lot more user-friendly."
"The initial setup is somewhat complex and should be made simpler to do."
"The write performance could be improved because it is less than half of the read performance."
"The read/write ratio is an area in the solution with some flaws and needs improvement."
