We performed a comparison between Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes and VMware vSAN based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Dell Technologies, VMware, Nutanix and others in HCI."Immediately we noticed huge performance gains, even on older hardware and once we implemented a 10GB link between both servers, the sync was near-instant after the initial sync was complete."
"The access to our data is quicker and cheaper than it used to be in a traditional storage system."
"I save both physical and virtual space."
"It's very easy to resize disks and they show up in VMware almost instantly."
"We have been able to use more on-prem hardware to reduce cost and also use old disks that we do not trust enough for ordinary RAID or usage."
"It includes every feature that a traditional SAN offers and so much more."
"The user interface for this application is amazing."
"The StarWind products have enabled our organization to modernize stations where larger and more expensive equipment was not an option."
"Dell EMC VxFlex Ready Nodes can support what we call a heterogeneous environment. So you can have VMware workloads, Hyper-V workloads, bare metal Red Hat workloads, Kubernetes workloads all on the same cluster. You're not pigeonholed into either all bare metal or all virtualized. So it supports basically any platform."
"The most valuable features of Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes are the ease of acquisition."
"We had very good access to technical support."
"The installation is very easy."
"You get the benefit of local storage, but you have the protection of shared storage."
"vSAN can help customers save on storage system costs, and also save on the human cost."
"Scalability in vSAN has been really good. It's very easy to add nodes in, to automatically generate the drives and the disk groups. It has been a piece of cake, surprisingly so."
"It is simple to manage, very easy to implement and troubleshoot in case of any failures."
"The product’s ecosystem is better than Nutanix’s."
"The scalability is very good and the solution is stable and reliable."
"I would like to see more advanced free versions."
"Updating the software can be a bit tricky."
"Other vendors such as VMware vSAN have a bigger community of users, so it is easier to find more pre-sale or post-sale information from users."
"While StarWind.com excels in numerous areas, there are a couple of notable functionalities that it currently lacks. One of these is duplication, which could be an invaluable feature for data redundancy and backup purposes. The ability to duplicate data across different storage locations can be crucial for safeguarding against data loss, and its absence is a minor limitation in an otherwise stellar offering."
"We would like to see the documentation more fully developed."
"The number of different ways you can set it up can make it a little daunting."
"Besides not being able to use any filesystem, I do not have any additional cons."
"The only thing that I have any difficulty with is that in order to perform upgrades, it is required that the SANs be detached from the Hosts before that can happen."
"Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes is a little less sophisticated than some of the other solutions out there. A full-blown cloud foundation has a lot more to it."
"From a technical perspective, it's a pretty rock solid solution. I would say the only area for improvement is around its price."
"The solution could maybe improve failure protection."
"Its price could be improved. It is too expensive for our clients."
"I would like a better Hardware Certification List (HCL). The HCL should a little easier to deal with."
"The solution functions as the marketing says, as long as you follow certain rules."
"One thing in vSAN that I would like to improve is using vSAN as a repository for files or other things. For example, with Horizon, maybe we can save profiles with UEM on there. That would be a good feature that I would like."
"If one node out of your ten nodes fails, it takes a lot of time to replicate and rebalance VMware vSAN. This time can be reduced. When a node fails and the data is not accessible, vSAN has to be rebalanced to make the redundancy level of two again. However, if it is taking a lot of time and any other hardware fails during that time, then we have a problem. Two disk failures mean that all data will be lost, and we may have to recover it from the backup. So, the number of threads that run to do the rebalancing could be more so that the time taken to make it fully redundant again is not so much."
"There needs to be an increase in the supported memory and hard disk space, as it is an area where the product currently has certain shortcomings."
"I would like to see more support for applications. I think currently it only supports applications between two vSAN clusters."
