We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The orchestration, building the release, and then just executing it and managing that pipeline — the orchestration capabilities are great for that.""The time is also reduced because the manual work has tremendously decreased. We just have to click one button, and it will create everything for us.""The most valuable feature of Digital.ai Release is its ability to communicate with various deployment systems, such as XLD and batch deployments, as well as integrate with tools, such as Flyway and Bamboo. We use Bamboo as our build orchestrator, and Digital.ai Release also integrates with Jira, another Atlassian solution. These capabilities make it a powerful tool for managing workflow, test automation, and other processes.""The solution can apply one template across multiple applications."

"Of all available products, it was the easiest to use and easy to install.""This is a scalable solution. We had around 200 users working with it.""CI/CD is very good. The version control system is also good. These are the two features that we use.""The most important features of GitLab for us are issue management and all the CI/CD tools. Another aspect that I love about GitLab is the UI.""Everything is easy to configure and easy to work with.""The most valuable feature of GitLab is its security.""A user friendly solution.""I have found the most valuable feature is security control. I also like the branching and cloning software."

Cons
"Currently, we put artifact details manually. What we could improve, in our case, is the deployment instruction base. Developers input all the information, including which artifact and where it needs to be deployed. What Digital.ai could do is automatically go to the deployment instruction page, take those artifact details, and implement them.""The backfill could be improved, we could automate that. Right now it's subjective — it's up to the lead developer's memory to remember to backfill.""The solution is a little bit expensive.""Digital.ai Release could improve by having a better plugin that works with Guardian that we use for mainframe migrations. If there could be an interface or plugin for Guardian that would be beneficial."

"As GitLab is not perfect, what needs improvement in the solution is the Wiki feature of the groups or the repertories because currently, it's not searchable by default. You'll need an indexing service such as Elasticsearch to make it searchable, and that requires too much work, so for me, it's the main feature that should be improved in GitLab. In the next version of the solution, from the top of my head, the documentation could be improved. Besides the Wiki, it would be good if there's documentation that would be automatically generated based on the code repository. In other words, there should be some tutorials from GitLab for developers in the next release.""Their RBAC is role-based access, which is fine but not very good.""The solution should again offer an on-premises deployment option.""GitLab would be improved with the addition of templates for deployment on local PCs.""GitLab can improve by integrating with more tools, such as servers with Docker.""The integration and storage capabilities could be better.""GitLab could improve the patch repository. It does not have support for Conan patch version regions. Additionally, better support for Kubernetes deployment is needed as part of the package.""The pricing model of GitLab is an issue for me."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Overall, the price is just too high; especially considering we're in the middle of a pandemic."
  • "The solution's license includes all features."
  • More Digital.ai Release Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I think that we pay approximately $100 USD per month."
  • "The price is okay."
  • "It seems reasonable. Our IT team manages the licenses."
  • "Its price is fine. It is on the cheaper side and not expensive. You have to pay additionally for GitLab CI/CD minutes. Initially, we used the free version. When we ran out of GitLab minutes, we migrated to the paid version."
  • "It is very expensive. We can't bear it now, and we have to find another solution. We have a yearly subscription in which we can increase the number of licenses, but we have to pay at the end of the year."
  • "I don't mind the price because I use the free version."
  • "We are using its free version, and we are evaluating its Premium version. Its Ultimate version is very expensive."
  • "The price of GitLab could be better, it is expensive."
