We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"You can have thousands of devices inside and hundreds of thousands of interphases without a problem.""It is the gathering of the whole performance data in our environment and our network environment, for us and our customers.""We're able to present data from multiple back-end collection sources into a single dashboard for the users. So they don't have to go to multiple locations to get data about a particular item, or device.""One feature I like about CA Performance Management is the certification of the devices.""The feature that is inherent to its core, of being able to graphically represent a trend and status, is nice.""It saves time having it all on one place, so you do not have to jump around from different tools and try to merge the data. It is already done for you.""Great dashboards and good integration with other solutions.""Scalability is the reason we bought the product to begin with. It was designed from the ground up for carrier-grade services, and we are in effect a MSP ourselves. So we were really interested in looking at something to be able to handle the multi-tenancy and scale as large as possible. This was the only solution that we really considered at that level."

"The installation is straightforward.""SolarWinds NCM provides updates on the status of your network infrastructure. If any issues arise, such as a link failure or a device going offline, you will receive notifications and alerts. Additionally, if someone unplugs a cable, SolarWinds NCM will detect it. It also features a Topology Mapper that displays the connectivity of your network devices, giving you a visual representation of the network's structure. With SolarWinds NCM, you have a clear understanding of what's happening within your network and can generate comprehensive reports.""Its main functionality is highly beneficial as it centralizes the management of configuration items across the network.""This solution has helped our organization by allowing us to store all the device configurations for the various network devices in NCM and making it easy for us to retrieve and look them over.""It allows us to manage backups in big companies. It is also useful in managing the configuration changes.""The most valuable Real-time fault detection is beneficial as it enables the identification of changes made to a device's configuration through the SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager. This makes it easy to pinpoint which configurations were added or removed, potentially causing network issues. Such changes are saved in logs for future reference.""I use it for monitoring the entire network for the company. We oversee nodes down, we oversee devices heading up to crossing the threshold for CPU usage. We oversee power so power backups on the switches, we oversee if they're down or if they're failing. We oversee any node down or any router from any vendor.""The configuration compliance aspect of SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager allows for easy comparison of configuration settings across branches, ensuring adherence to security guidelines and best practices. Automation capabilities have greatly impacted workflows, enabling tasks such as configuration backups, template deployment, and firmware upgrades to be automated, thereby streamlining processes and saving time. Compliance reporting features provide valuable insights into network compliance, offering pre-built security audit reports and customizable options to meet specific requirements."

Cons
"Global synchronization errors. Sometimes it just doesn't finish in time due to the load.""The solution could improve the database model. It is also not very good because they have a lot of interconnections with other data sources, such as NFA and VNA.""I'm not a fan of many extra features since they usually burden the software and reduce its reliability.""CA PM Business Hours Filtering: I understand that all monitoring systems have defects. The Business Hours Filtering does not always function properly. Sometimes, when applying business hours to CA PM reports that are 30 or more days in duration, the report generation times out and does not display results. We have other CA PM reports that, when we apply Business Hours Filtering, the report results displayed are the same as without the filter. We are not sure if this is a defect in CA PM or if it is a result of our complex configuration (folder structure) and application of business hours.""Product has issue collecting IP SLA data.""This solution's implementation process could be quicker. They could also optimize the hardware requirements.""I think it would be helpful having a more comprehensive set of certifications so that I could natively deploy devices to my environment and the tool would immediately recognize and immediately be able to provide relevant performance information without a lot of tuning on my part.""This tool gathers so much data, which makes it hard to convert over. To upgrade it, you really need the solution backed up. That is the issue that we are facing right now."

More DX Performance Management Cons →

"The third-party plugins available in the solution could improve. I have received some issues with the templates.""The Network Configuration Manager needs to improve the access control list compliance.""The network logs could be improved. When the error logs come across with those false positive alarms in the error logs.""Our experience has shown that most of the problems we've had with SolarWinds NCM are related to software issues.""Its look and feel can be improved. They can also put in more effort into building the THWACK community and use the information about various customer issues and requests to build the new releases.""Improvements are needed in the automatic network mapping function.""On NCM, reporting could be a bit better. It's completely become just one report. When I try to create a custom report, the solution just commits old server data.""Its customer service response could be faster."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "We were looking at other vendors in the marketplace for NetFlow, and CA just beat everybody else in price, cost, and the size to implement. "
  • "Do your homework and know how many devices you will be managing out of the gate. Be sure to project what your growth will be each year."
  • "They should provide more scalable licensing for the product."
  • "I like the licensing model because it's device-based."
  • "We purchase a license to use the solution every three years and we have multiple contracts. They have been increasing the price annually. We have a baseline for three years and then we need to pay the difference from the baseline, and we are in the process of negotiating a new price for all the licenses we need. The price overall is affordable."
  • "The tool's pricing is based on the number of network devices."
  • More DX Performance Management Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "With a minimal bundle, we pay about $3000 a year in licensing costs. If you have multiple devices in your network, you must buy the bundle, which is 100% identical for your infrastructure. If you have 15 devices, you need 15 licenses, for example. That's one bundle. You don't pay for anything over and above that."
  • "You have a base license for 50 devices, and then you can add more licenses as you go."
  • "There is a license for the use of this solution and it is priced well, there is a lot of value for the money."
  • "I have a yearly subscription."
  • "In Africa, the cost is a major factor in decision-making for many companies. As a result, some companies may choose cheaper solutions, even if they are open-source, over more expensive ones, such as SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager. However, as an engineer, I believe that the functionalities and services offered by SolarWinds justify the cost. Nonetheless, many companies in Africa may still view the prices as unaffordable."
  • "There is a license needed to use SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager."
  • "The price of the solution is high compared to other solutions."
  • "We have to pay additionally for its support and maintenance."
