"Regarding specific features, I appreciate the option for external selection, where you can choose either to use a default or create a self-description. This simplifies the process compared to other vendors that require creating a test extension profile and then applying it to the installation. With FortiGate, there is a streamlined approach. From the benefits perspective, clients mainly see cost reduction, especially with FortiGate VM Firewall, as it eliminates the need for additional hardware."
"Good for the servers and can stop network attacks, including spam."
"Fortinet FortiGate-VM is easy to use."

"If they could extend their fabric towards other vendor environments for integration, that would be great."
"The updates Fortinet provides are sometimes unstable."
"Tunnel flapping was one of the major things I had seen wherein your internet link remains but your VPN tunnel is down. However, since I got a fix from the TAC team, I have not noticed it, but the customer complained a few times that they couldn't access the internet because of this problem."
"We have an issue with hotel guest vouchers."
"Not a ten because I think that Cisco is better."
"In the next release, we would like to see full integration with VMware NSX virtualized networks."
"The performance could be better. Some features need to have quality control when the switch is working. The dedicated bandwidth for some users is not reliable."
"Some issues with connecting to the VPN from home after firmware updates."
"The one thing that could be improved is the integration with the exchange. The gateway level controls can be enhanced a bit more. For example, it's still little here and there. You do get malicious attacks and suspicious emails like spam. It's not like Sophos where we got a lot of spam email, and yet, it's still relatively vulnerable. It can be upgraded, maybe with a fifth-generation firmware that it is ready for unknown threats."
"We are experiencing a failed login issue. There should also be improvements in functionalities we store to enhance our services."
"The price model is not transparent by any means and should be made more clear. What's included in the packages is often not very obvious."
"Fortinet could improve the availability and delivery of its products. It takes four to six weeks for every purchase to arrive."
"Palo Alto Networks VM-Series is a complex product to work with."
"People are less aware of Palo Alto."
"Just sometimes it can be a bit sluggish navigating through pages. That is just purely because of Java."
"The product could be better in terms of performance than one of its competitors."
"The disadvantage with Palo Alto is that they don't have a cloud-based solution that includes a secure web gateway."
"The web interface is very slow, and it needs to be faster."
"The solution must improve Zero Trust integration and use cases."
"In the next release, I would like to see better integration of multi-factor authentication vendors."

In the best tradition of these questions, Feature-wise both are quite similar, but each has things it's better at, it kind of depends what you value most.
PA is good at app control, web filtering and such like, they have always been top of the pile there. The GUI is very good, and their product is very user-focused.
Fortinet is good for scalability and predictable high throughput (ASICs in the hardware), and useful things like authentication flexibility, CLI config (if you have any networking/Cisco people, they always seem to prefer CLI over GUI) and have better OT features, maybe relevant to your manufacturing use?
Fortinet seem to have a broader integration offering with their security fabric than PA do, plus they can do Fortinet-based wifi, switching, etc. Depends if you are prepared to go all-in with a single vendor.
