We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Sentinel enables us to ingest data from our entire ecosystem. In addition to integrating our Cisco ASA Firewall logs, we get our Palo Alto proxy logs and some on-premises data coming from our hardware devices... That is very important and is one way Sentinel is playing a wider role in our environment.""The best functionality that you can get from Azure Sentinel is the SOAR capability. So, you can estimate any type of activity, such as when an alert was triggered or an incident was found.""The pricing of the product is excellent.""Sentinel has an intuitive, user-friendly way to visualize the data properly. It gives me a solid overview of all the logs. We get a more detailed view that I can't get from the other SIEM tools. It has some IP and URL-specific allow listing""Having your logs put all in one place with machine learning working on those logs is a good feature. I don't need to start thinking, "Where are my logs?" My logs are in a centralized repository, like Log Analytics, which is why you can't use Sentinel without Log Analytics. Having all those logs in one place is an advantage.""It is quite efficient. It helps our clients in identifying their security issues and respond quickly. Our clients want to automate incident response and all those things.""Sentinel uses Azure Logic Apps for automation, which is really powerful. This allows us to easily automate responses to incidents.""The log analysis is excellent; it can predict what can or will happen regarding use patterns and vulnerabilities."

"I am very proud of how very stable the solution is.""The product is scalable. The solution is stable.""Graylog's search functionality, alerting functionality, user management, and dashboards are useful.""I like the correlation and the alerting.""We're using the Community edition, but I know that it has really good dashboarding and alerts.""Real-time UDP/GELF logging and full text-based searching.""We have scaled from a single machine installation (a VM with a Graylog + ES + MongoDB) to (2 Graylog + 2 ES + 3 MongoDB). This was done smoothly with a minimal impact on logging.""Everything stands out as valuable, including the fact that I can quantify and qualify the logs, create pipelines and process the logs in any way I like, and create charts or data maps."

"The features I found valuable with the Sumo Logic Security solution are the search option and the ability to customize the search for the information in the logs.""It helps a lot because we can troubleshoot issues pretty easily.""Sumo Logic Security is a good solution for searching the logs and identifying the issues.""I have no concerns about the stability of the product. I feel it handles the stress we put on it very well.""We can ingest logs and make reports out of them. It is a good tool which can help us monitor any issues.""Scalability has been good for our needs. We haven't run into any scaling issues in regards to size so far.""It gives us a bird's eye view of what's happening from our connection's point of view.""The tool has key features like operability. It will alert the admins whenever a device is onboarded."

Cons
"They should just add more and more out-of-the-box connectors. It is quite a new product, and it has a lot of connectors, and even more would be good.""When we pass KPIs to the governance department, there's no option to provide rights to the data or dashboard to colleagues. We can use Power BI for this, but it isn't easy or convenient. They should just come up with a way to provide limited role-based access to auditing personnel""We're satisfied with the comprehensiveness of the security protection. That said, we do have issues sometimes where there have been global outages and we need to raise a ticket with Microsoft.""The playbook is a bit difficult and could be improved.""There are certain delays. For example, if an alert has been rated on Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, it might take up to an hour for that alert to reach Sentinel. This should ideally take no more than one or two seconds.""I believe one of the challenges I encountered was the absence of live training sessions, even with the option to pay for them.""Sentinel still has some anomalies. For example, sometimes when we write a query for log analysis with KQL, it doesn't give us the data in a proper way... Also, the fields or columns could be improved. Sometimes, it is not giving the desired results and there is a blank field.""In terms of features I would like to see in future releases, I'm interested in a few more use cases around automation. I do believe a lot of automation is available, and more is in progress, but that would be my area of interest."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"More customization is always useful.""I would like to see some kind of visualization included in Graylog.""The infrastructure cost is the main issue. I like the rest. If the infrastructure costs could be lower, it would be fantastic.""I hope to see improvements in Graylog for more interactivity, user-friendliness, and creating alerts. The initial setup is complex.""Graylog could improve the process of creating rules. We have to create them manually by doing parses and applying them. Other SIEM solutions have basic rules and you can create and get more events of interest.""Since container orchestration systems are popular and Graylog fits the niche well, perhaps they could officially support running in docker containers on Kubernetes as a StatefulSet as a use case. That way, the declarative nature of Kubernetes config files would document their best case deployment scenario-""I would like to see a default dashboard widget that shows the topology of the clusters defined for the graylog install.""Elasticsearch recommendations for tuning could be better. Graylog doesn't have direct support for running the system inside of Kubernetes, so it can be challenging to fill in the gaps and set up containers in a way that is both performant and stable."

More Graylog Cons →

"It would be nice to have an improved ability to scroll through logs within a time frame. Right now, we can search for specific errors. However, if we want to look for "before and after" within a specific time frame, it's not easy using the tool. This would be an improvement.""The initial setup is the most stressful, like learning how to use it.""From the network segmentation side, there is some discrepancy in log onboarding. The tool needs to improve direct API integrations, login integration, native login integration, etc.""The integration with multiple sources could be better.""The solution should improve its UI.""In my opinion, this solution has a steep learning curve and requires practice if users to be able to use this tool very efficiently.""Sumo Logic needs to make sure integrating solutions are seamless.""We would like to have some type of predefined setup for the logs, making the setup easier by default."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "Having paid official support is wise for projects."
  • "I am using a community edition. I have not looked at the enterprise offering from Graylog."
  • "If you want something that works and do not have the money for Splunk or QRadar, take Graylog."
  • "You get a lot out-of-the-box with the non-enterprise version, so give it a try first."
  • "Consider Enterprise support if you have atypical needs or setup requirements."
  • "I use the free version of Graylog."
  • "It's an open-source solution that can be used free of charge."
  • "We're using the Community edition."

  • "Purchasing Sumo Logic through the AWS Marketplace was a simple step."
  • "Purchasing the solution through the AWS Marketplace is very easy."
  • "We chose to go through the AWS Marketplace because it makes it a lot easier when we bill our customers. Rather than having to get multiple different sources of information then correlate a monthly bill for our customers, it is just included in the AWS usage charges."
  • "The AWS Marketplace pricing is fairly reasonable for what it does. I wouldn't call it expensive, but I wouldn't call it cheap. It is pretty good."
  • "The only limit to the scalability of the product for us is how much we are willing to pay."
  • "The price scaling comes in a bit expensive."
  • "Pricing has been cheaper than some of the competing tools, like Splunk."
  • "If we went to ELK Stack, which is open source, it would have been less costly, but it would have required more development from our side."
