We performed a comparison between Hornetsecurity Altaro VM Backup and MSP360 Backup based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Backup and Recovery solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The ease of use of the solution is its most valuable feature. The interface is also excellent."
"We use the latest feature in Altaro called CDP (Continuous Data Protection) to back up our VMs as often as every five minutes. It allows us to make sure no data is accidentally deleted or overwritten."
"The CDP backup feature is very nice, as it allows you to take backups at high frequencies and with application consistency."
"Valuable features for us include quick recovery, compression, and deduplication."
"Reverse Delta is Altaro proprietary backup deduplication technology. With Reverse Delta, the latest version of a file is always made available in its entirety, not as a delta file."
"The initial setup was simple and easy. Anyone without prior experience can install, configure, and use it."
"The most valuable feature of Altaro VM Backup is its ability to backup and restore various types of data, including Active Directory, application servers, and SQL Server databases."
"Excellent compression and deduplication with off-site WAN backup included."
"Client-side encryption minimizes worries about data being captured on the back-end."
"The solution is simple to use and easy to configure."
"It has allowed me to implement a cost effective, highly configurable solution."
"General ease of use and performance of the Windows version is the most valuable feature."
"Provides connectivity to a lot of different cloud storage solutions."
"One massive advantage of this solution, as compared to more enterprise products, is that no firewall changes are needed on the client's premises. For the product to back up from the client's premise to the cloud, it just needs port 8 and port 443, which are anyway always open. This was one of the things that made us decide to go with the product. It is very difficult to justify a firewall change for a small client who doesn't even know what a firewall is and how to maintain a firewall, or doesn't have anybody maintaining their firewall. You then have to maintain the firewall. MSP360 Backup takes away firewall change requirements, VPNs, or channels that are needed for the backup."
"I was mainly concerned with cloud backups, OneDrive backups, consumer OneDrive, business OneDrive, Google backups, and SharePoint backups. The solution did a good job of the backup."
"The most valuable feature of MSP360 Backup is its reliability."
"It would be nice to see a feature that backs up the host so that, in case of a server failure, an entire server could be restored all at once."
"Replication is not fast, the GUI could be more user-friendly, and technical support is lacking in Iran."
"The initial set up was complex, and I was not able to do the set up myself."
"Basically, how it works is that you have a single local drive, and then you have a cloud backup. It'd be nice if you could rotate the single local backup drive. As of now, you can't."
"To improve Altaro, I would like to see the ability to choose more than one backup location at a time."
"The cloud backup and VMware support (now available in the latest releases), could do with some improvement."
"Availability of physical server backup would be an added advantage."
"Backup speed and comparisons between versions used to be slow on big VMs but that was improved greatly later on."
"They can add some production backup capabilities and the ability to do single instance back up. At the moment, it doesn't do deduplication on the standard backup. So, the issue is backing up PSG files for customers who have limited bandwidth. The other issue is that I don't like the implementation of the SQL backup. We do use SQL ourselves using a PowerShell script with the VDA tools as a module. That's how we back up. The rotation feature would be nice to have, but I know that they've got it on their dashboard or on their list to look at. They can also do a few tweaks to the dashboard. I would like the reporting capabilities on the portal to be much more granular. Normally, I export it to a text file, and then I run it through a pivot table in order to look at it from a cost-recovery point of view and to see when the backup last ran and if it was successful when it ran two or three days ago. Such a feature would work really well for my market. They can also add a cost-effective backup for Android and Apple cellphones. I've had one or two customers who were looking for this feature. I haven't found this functionality at the moment. I've been looking for a product that does that."
"The Linux GUI leaves a lot to be desired. It lacks many of the features of the Windows version and is buggy, but it is still usable."
"The main improvement is that it should have GDPR compliance. That's the problematic point. They say they are GDPR compliant, but they are not."
"The initial setup is a little complex as it has to be done in the office and requires someone to come in and install the solution on your server, then configure the scheduling, backup pushing, and so on."
"Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service."
"As for what can be improved, some reports could be simplified so that you know how much backup you have done and what your backup details are. That report is available but it is very tough to get. I would like to know "today I have just uploaded 35 MB, tomorrow I have loaded 10 MB so my trend of backup is increasing.""
"The graphics are looking a bit old and should be updated."
"The solution needs a better graphical user interface. It's a graphical user interface that is very old-school right now. They could give it a little more modern feel."
