We performed a comparison between HPE 3PAR StoreServ and NetApp FAS Series based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two NAS solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The security operating system is its most valuable feature because it's very simple, easy to use, and operate. You don't have to do very serious training to operate this equipment. It's user-friendly and pretty straightforward."
"The solution helps to simplify storage."
"Before we used Pure Storage it took 93 days of employees who run the database to back up and restore databases. The scale of deployment basically went from several days to a few minutes."
"We like the speed. It's very low latency. In virtualization, you can mask lots of problems, and even in code you can mask lots of problems, with low latency. It's just pure speed and low latency."
"The deduplication and compression rates are beyond impressive."
"We were actually able to do multiple upgrades, including head upgrades and moving between the platforms, M20 and M50, over the years. We have never once lost a ping and have never had an outage due to an OS upgrade or a complete head upgrade."
"All our junior partners can administer the storage arrays. It is simple and easy to use. We don't have to dedicate a whole team of full time people to work on it."
"It upgrades in place which means we'll be using it well into the future."
"3PAR is different from other storage solutions because it uses a chunklet when we initiate the storage. Every disk is submitted as a 1 GB chunklet. This chunklet can be RAID 1, 4, 5, or 6. This fabulous feature is very useful for me because I can distribute the RAID for any volume. The adaptive optimization is the biggest feature in 3PAR. 3PAR is very usable with thin volume because it detects zeros while writing. Every time I tell the hypervisor to make the full provisioning, it makes the volume as simple provisioning in 3PAR, not full provisioning. Other vendors take this volume as thick provisioning because of which the capacity is reached quickly. It doesn't happen in 3PAR because it detects zeros. It only writes the data, and it doesn't write zeros. There are two processors in 3PAR: the ASIC processor and the main processor. The ASIC processor detects zero writing and doesn't write it, which is a big feature in 3PAR."
"The most valuable feature for me is the solution's availability."
"The speed is very good."
"It's advantageous in terms of the cost, in terms of the performance, and taking up less space."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the native full mesh (multi-pathing)."
"The overall quality of the product is fantastic. Advanced Optimization is one of the best features I never thought I needed until I actually used it and saw it in action."
"The remote copy group failover is very useful and has helped us."
"I like that 3PAR can remake the disk online. That's one of the best features because when we first started, that was the best. The team provisioning feature was also a good one. Those features are the best for me, provisioning and online optimization, and the tier you can have for storage."
"The solution is stable."
"The most valuable feature for us is the combining of HA and SnapMirror."
"It allows our Windows and Unix teams to have a centralized point to share data between the two."
"Flexible and reliable storage solution with multiple features such as cloning, replication, and deduplication. Data migration can be done without any performance implications on the production systems."
"The replication feature is noteworthy because it's faster than most and it uses little bandwidth. Then there's the friendly interface that the equipment offers. With this interface, it is very easy to manage."
"Snapshot, deduplication, and compression features are valuable."
"I have found all the features useful in NetApp FAS Series."
"The new FAS series is a good fit for some customers. We have good performance and capacity, even though it is full flash."
"If we suddenly dump large amounts of data onto the storage system, it takes a while to process it."
"Part of our company works on Dell EMC because Pure Storage did not have synchronous applications when we were purchasing our products."
"I would like the ability to swap out the network adapters into it. So, without taking out the whole controller, I would like to be able to swap adapters. This would make things easier."
"I can't see where they can make anything better, unless, of course, they lower their prices even more."
"Pure Storage FlashArray could improve the recent file storage capabilities because it is lacking a lot of features."
"Its price could be cheaper. It is not the cheapest one out there, but I'm not directly involved in the figures and negotiations."
"It is not possible to create a cluster on top of multiple arrays."
"The scalability of the solution is not as good as it probably could be."
"A lot of tasks, you have to manually set up. They need to already have them set up and working. Then, you can just go in and tweak them if you need to."
"It's a little bit difficult to figure out where the capacity is used. There is deduplication that, of course, saves space, but it sometimes it's hard to find out where the space is used. If you delete something, do you get it back? So it's not very transparent regarding capacity."
"The replicating software is pretty complicated. I probably would have put it on a sequence."
"I would like to see a little better integration with OneView and provisioning ESX Hosts."
"We would like to see a bigger integration with the Nimble Storage solution, so we can take our smaller regional companies and be able to send them into our bigger data centers and have everything work seamlessly."
"Our support in the US has been phenomenal, no issues at all. But the European support was poor initially."
"It needs the addition of InfoSight, which is the most critical, along with predictive analytics and AI."
"3PAR has StoreOnce and replication. I would like it if they worked together. Or, if I had Nimble and put that either in DR or a primary cohesive management, but still use the cool features of 3PAR, that would be awesome."
"There is room for improvement in deployment and configuration processes."
"We would like to have further integration with some backup products. They have some of them already, but there could be more."
"The WAFL is slow."
"Needs more SAN support."
"I would like to see less latency and higher IOPS."
"The only downside is in ease in management; it is not easy to use."
"The high cost of the product is an area of concern, so from an improvement perspective, the tool needs to be made cheaper."
"It may need more flexibility to fight with other competing arrays."
