Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The user interface, reporting, and management are good, and we are quite happy with the performance.""Consolidation and duplications features.""The solution's most valuable feature is its ability to restore lost machines. Essentially its high availability capabilities are extremely valuable to us.""This solution is very simple to use.""The flexibility is the most advantageous aspect of the solution. Our system has a very big environment. Due to this, the replication and backup operation is not an easy task. We prefer HPE SimpliVity modules in our environment, even when we have some different cases in operations.""We find the deduplication and compression features to be most valuable, as well as that of the backup solution inside.""The solution's technical support was good. I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.""The most valuable features of the solution are the flexibility and the availability of the machines."

"As a point for optimization on our infrastructure, it works great for us.""The ability to manage the environment without special consoles or interfaces is a plus.""The most valuable feature for us is its integration, as it provides an entire solution in a single box.""It has lessened our burden on multiple different products, so they are under one umbrella. This has been economically good.""The solution has eliminated the need for overprovisioning. It is designed to take advantage of deduplication strategies, which means we don't have to have as much disk in the system to do the job that we used to have to do.""SimpliVity's console is useful.""It is easy to set up.""Scaling is a piece of cake. We have been able to scale up in our Asia-Pac region. We even are doing site-to-site replication of certain systems that we need to have high availability on."

Cons
"The MTG inside HP could be improved.""It could be enhanced by improving the built-in backup solution.""The solution needs to add NFS features.""This is an expensive solution.""Features that should be addressed concern the HPE functionality and the interaction with VMware.""HPE ConvergedSystem needs to improve its price.""I would like to see monitoring solutions included, as well as brand support.""Perhaps they can work on providing faster allocation of memory or storage."

More HPE ConvergedSystem Cons →

"The life-cycle management can be improved.""Product doesn't scale.""The technical, commercial, and marketing support is not at the level that it should be. They are not structured well. Other vendors provide better support, such as Dell.""The biggest feature, which should be included, is some method to handle archival backup or cloud-based backup. Where SimpliVIty typically falls down with their data structure is: The longer a backup is kept, the more space it ends up inevitably using. When you get into things that you have to keep for five or seven years for legal requirements or regulatory compliance, then you start taking up a lot of space with these old dead backups that you are probably never going to use again. Being able to offload those to a separate platform or cloud storage location would be ideal.""The interface is good but takes some time to get used to.""We definitely want to see more of the CLI commands come up to the GUI, and it is a legitimate question, if we are going to be happy with the integration in the vsphere web client, which is awfully slow.""Bandwidth throttling during offsite backups would be better than the off-peak time setting for a 24/7 shop.""When it comes to performing backups, the dashboard is not intuitive and not user-friendly."

  • "The pricing is sensitive."
  • "This is an expensive solution."
  • "My company has a five year contract for HPE ConvergedSystem. The contracts depend on companies and sometimes it can be three years. The solution is worth its price."
  • "There are some extra costs in addition to the licensing costs for the yearly maintenance from professional third-party services."
  • "The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
  • "The pricing is competitive. Not a major problem. We have a subscription model."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by HPE SimpliVity users.

Jeff S., Information Technology Manager at Troyer Foods, Inc. says the solution has “Phenomenal deduplication and compression, good support, and works on its own. SimpliVity is integrated with the hypervisor, and you have a single pane of glass. It is really hands-off. Once you set your backup schedules, you're done.

A Senior Datacenter Consultant at a computer software company mentions, “The most valuable feature is the ease of use and the storage virtualization layer, together with the built-in backups. That's what makes SimpliVity really useful, and how you can replicate data between different sites without paying an extra license for that feature. All the features are built into the product.”

PeerSpot user Doug C., IT Engineer at a government, comments, “Backups and restores occur very quickly. All SimpliVity management is done through vCenter, providing a single-pane of glass for all management and configuration functions. The advanced deduplication and compression greatly reduce the storage requirements, reducing the amount of expensive flash storage required. The 10G interfaces between the SimpliVity nodes greatly speeds up VM migrations between nodes. SimpliVity enables "stretched-cluster" operation with mirrored storage between the nodes, enabling automated failover. If a node or site goes down for any reason, the VMs on that node are automatically restarted on the other node.”

German I., Solutions Architect Data Center Servers and Storage at Tecnologia informatica, explains, “The integration possibilities regarding the administration console are one of the best configurations and one of the best features that differentiates this product from others in the market. Also, you can add extra coverage protection that includes everything inside of the hard drives — similar products don't do this. You can use it directly from the hypervisor, which is great.”
