Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"OneView provides a single console, which is manageable without physical access.""The easy user interface was what I found most valuable in HPE OneView. For example, if I wanted to know the infrastructure status or I needed to send in any change commands, HPE OneView had simple buttons.""Broad range of tools to create executive and operations dashboards.""The stability is very good. I have never had an issue with it over the three years that I have been using it.""The OneView Global Dashboard is very user-friendly and it can be used for monitoring the power consumption and temperature of the data center and racks.""It's rather simple to use, and that's very important for us.""The most valuable features are the composable structure, infrastructure, and automation.""Profile templates: The ability to generate the profiles and lay them down so the servers are built consistently. I would say that's probably the biggest piece of it."

"The value of Icinga is that it has hundreds of plugins, so it's really easy to monitor pretty much anything.""Macros and the ability to connect it to Google Maps are valuable features.""The apply rules feature saves a lot of time.""The drafts are easy but what I like about Icinga is that there are many add-ons that you can download.""I like the ability to amend and adjust things really easily, which is useful in a case where you could make it auto-discover and then set a template to say all of these applications or servers under this template have an automatic threshold set that you’d set up manually.""This solution has a self-healing handler where if the service is down, it is automatically restarted.""There's a module called Icinga Director, which helps us configure the product using an intuitive interface through clicks instead of creating a text configuration. It's very helpful for us.""An affordable solution for small organizations to do basic network monitoring."

Cons
"We've had a few issues. We just upgraded to the 3.9.0 version. We think that now that we are on that version, hopefully a lot of those things are going to go away for us.""It would be better if we can add every HPE device to OneView, such as MSA, as well as the other servers like the DL server and ML server.""Use it, but do not think it is going into the clouds, because it is not. There is room for improvement.""Sometimes the interface can be a little confusing, sometimes the error messages can be very cryptic, as far as what's actually going on.""I saw, maybe three years ago or two years ago here, or in Barcelona, at the HPE Discover conference, a feature that you can update Clusterware with VMware. But the feature is still not live in production. Currently, you have to do all the firmware updates and then you have to do the VMware updates. So you have two reboots and it would be better if it was just one.""We have a version 3 and a version 1.2, but the upgrade process from the 1.2 to the 3 is kind of an issue.""HPE OneView should be able to cover more device models apart from ProLiant and Synergy.""We ran into a couple of issues here and there with the baselines for the firmware and not having enough space on the appliance itself to be able to have more than two baselines."

More HPE OneView Cons →

"The tool currently fails to provide notifications to users.""I think the software is quite good, but we have had problems with getting it to recognize certain areas and amend certain checks, where we needed so we would have to create backend scripts for those checks. Though, being open source, it has the support to create backend scripts, it would be better to have these scripts in-built.""The user interface should be improved.""Icinga is a complex solution that's hard to learn. It's a powerful product for monitoring, but new users will have a hard time figuring out what to do.""The installation and configuration are very complex.""It needs Trap SNMP. I saw the documentation for Zabbix, that it has its own built-in product which handles SNMP traps, and there's nothing similar in Icinga or Nagios. I think this feature is most important for me.""Icinga’s automation could be improved.""We have found some problems with Nagios, and support isn't very responsive."
