We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The modules and the performance management reports that come with data insights are two of the most valuable features. I also find the reports for Wi-Fi, Netflow, LAN, and WAN for monitoring to be very good.""It also gives us the closest thing to real-time insight into network performance that we have, with just a 10-second delay. It's very important for us to know the health of the infrastructure very quickly.""The most valuable feature as of late has been the API integration with ServiceNow.""The SMP and the xStats, which is for flat file integration, are both useful for integrating the various metrics that the device provides to monitor the performance of those systems.""We've had great feedback from our customers about SevOne support. They're willing to set up a remote session upon request. You have to go through three tiers of support with most vendors, and they ask a lot of screening questions before they will do a remote session. You need to spend a lot of time before an engineer will host a remote session to look at your problematic system.""Scalability. I have never had to worry about how to handle really big environments.""SevOne has rich API capabilities, giving us the flexibility to control what we collect and customize the collection, creation, and manipulation of now metrics as necessary.""It's given us the ability to create various real-time network performance reports and distribute them to any colleague who can access these reports immediately."

"I have found the most valuable feature is application performance management.""The reporting of the solution is very good.""Some of the most valuable features of SolarWinds are the topology discovery and network performance analysis.""The product has a great dashboard.""Technical support is always live and they're supportive.""The sum solution, NTA, and DPA."

Cons
"Telemetry is hot these days, and IBM can improve SevOne's support for telemetry correction. Reporting is another feature that could be better. It provides the bare minimum functionality, which is good enough for most engineers, but the management isn't advanced. The new portal provides a much lighter view and better visualization, but the management is not so good.""When I started using it, I tried adding one of the BroadWorks application servers into SevOne... it created thousands and thousands of objects from that one application server and we immediately ran out of license... It would help, when new objects are discovered, if there were a way to categorize those objects and to pick the part of the object you need...""User-friendly, multi-tenancy.""The reporting of NMS is good, but it could be better.""I'm not really sure if this was the software's fault or a server issue, but a couple of years back the disks were failing on our SevOne physical server every month and the server would go down. The secondary server took over from the primary until the disk issue was resolved. That was annoying.""SevOne should work with the graphs legend functionality.""Their virtualization solution is not compatible with our Kubernetes environment, which is one of the reasons we are ending our relationship with them.""Software upgrades can be tricky is not easy."

More IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (NPM) Cons →

"I would like to see more integration with other tools that are available on the market.""The integration with Unix services should be a bit more straightforward.""In terms of the technology, I think they need to put some more advanced troubleshooting into SolarWinds, in terms of AI capabilities. That's the next generation, especially in the cases of APIs which have already adopted AI capabilities into their products.""AppOptics would benefit from having a much more centralized view.""The solution should be more user-friendly.""The implementation needs improvement. It needs to get modernized with the newer cloud scenario in both public and private deployment models."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Have a bank of licenses, because it is about the number of objects (RAM, ports, CPU, etc.)."
  • "Choose a SevOne partner who can provide SevOne as a service and can deliver professional services and maintenance."
  • "It is inexpensive compared to other monitoring tools."
  • "Prices per license are not huge, but they exist."
  • "There are cheaper solutions available."
  • "The pricing has been fair."
  • "Many tools price things based on the number of KPIs that you're collecting around a device. In many cases, there could be hundreds of metrics that you need to collect. SevOne provides device-level pricing. That gives us the flexibility to turn on, and expand on, the metrics that we're collecting around those devices, without taking a financial hit."
  • "The pricing has not evolved with the market, which is one of the reasons we are moving to a new product."

  • "Mostly, it's a perpetual license. We don't have any customers using the subscription right now—it's mostly a perpetual license that the customers purchase. The licensing is based on the number of elements, whereas other solutions are node-based."
  • "I believe the current licensing cost is reasonable."
  • "Since it's a negotiable rate, I would rate the pricing as a five out of five."
