We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We're able to get higher-density workloads on the same infrastructure, and we have a smaller physical footprint. The performance is excellent – during our test the bottlenecks are never on the X array, it just keeps picking up the pace to match what you need. The real-time visibility is a differentiator in my opinion.""The standout features for us in Pure FlashArray X NVMe are its robust DDoS protection, seamless transparent failover, and failback capabilities ensuring high availability.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe will quickly overcome all the hurdles you face, including network and latency issues.""Technical support has been helpful and responsive.""The most valuable feature of this solution is reliability.""Pure has signature security technology, which cannot be deleted, even if you are an administrator.""Pure FlashArray X NVMe helps to improve our processing speed. It is user-friendly and easy to use.""One of the best features is the support, which is excellent."

"It has reduced our electricity usage by reducing the amount of disks needed for the virtual environment.""EasyTier/hotcaching: Valuable because it allows greater performance than standard SAS disks""It's very fast. We were seeing read latencies of less than one millisecond. It is robust.""The initial setup is straightforward.""It provides a combination of all the protocols that you need, without losing deduplication and compression.""It performed great originally, and when it performed great, it was awesome.""High performance and ease-of-management are the most valuable features.""Data Compression: Up to 80% space reduction in the database"

"Latency is definitely the big key for us.""It provides a full feature set without separate licensing (deduplication, compression, snapshot, asynchronous replication, stable performance, etc.).""The capacity that we're saving by using Kaminario's K2 is giving us a four-to-one ratio for our deduplication.""The ratio between the physical storage and the storage we use is very high.""The speed and, for us in particular in what we're doing, the data de-duplication.""The increased performance is many times above our previous array performance in all metrics. Integration with vSphere features is also a definite plus.""Built-in snapshot support gives us SAN-side functionality most other platforms would have had us license separately.""The most valuable aspect is the use of solid-state storage drives instead of spinning drives."

Cons
"I want to see Pure Storage not only be for fast storage, but I want to see it be for the entire data center.""Right now, the box itself is just strictly working as a backend storage system. It would be fantastic if we could access it directly like a NAS device through network access or SIS drives. I think they have an interface, but I am not sure how good it is. If we could address a box directly on the network without having to go through a server, it would be great. The replication schemas could be improved. We are not using replication on the storage level right now. We use a different type of replication. If their replication would be as good as the one that we have, I would probably run the replication schema because it might be faster, but I don't know that for a fact. So, I cannot say that they have good replication. All I can say is that they need to inform us better.""Many options to check performance, like read, writes, random writes, and random reads, are missing in Pure FlashArray X NVMe.""We would like to see more visibility into garbage collection and CPU performance in the GUI.""Every time I think of something that needs to improve, they're one step ahead, which I love. The only area I wish to see improve, I believe is coming, is in the FlashBlade product. Blade implementation fell short on a few of the services.""There is room for improvement in the pricing of the product.""You cannot tag a LUN with a description, and that should be improved. What I like on the Unity side is that when I expand LUNs or do things, there is an information field on the LUN. This is the Information field that you can tag on your LUNs to let yourself know, "Hey, I've added this much space on this date". Pure lacks that ability. So, you don't have a mechanism that's friendly for tracking your data expansions on the LUN and for adding any additional information. That's a downside for me.""The software layer has to improve."

More Pure FlashArray X NVMe Cons →

"It only keeps one hour of real-time data without the ability to do deep analysis of each element.""Technical support is bad. It'd grade them at 30% or 40%. The response time is terrible.""They need to offer better integration for a virtual platform to enable you to create hyper-converged solution.""Performance is horrible now. Our original intent was to buy new storage in about two years. But since it became a critical urgency for us, we decided to purchase a new one in two or three months.""Snapshots are not as easy to access as on a NetApp device.""It's somewhat scalable, but maybe not so much as some of the competition.""We had just one small stability problem with power flapping and it did not start up again automatically. We had to access service ports and manually restart the storage processors.""In the proxy section you can’t choose a user account and password, so it is not allowed at the moment to go out, if customer has such constellation."

More DDN IntelliFlash Cons →

"I think it should have better performance with small files. With big data, its performance is top notch, but it is difficult to load small files.""Some of the nice to haves for us, in terms of today, would be VVols but again, it’s not a critical feature.""Improved scale and budget planning with flexibility of the solution for budget needs and efficiency for growth with the great optimization ratio due to the nature of our use.""The front panel of the drive shelf doesn't always seat firmly.""The interface look and feel could be improved.""The management graphical interface needs more improvement.""I'm hoping to see Active Directory integration. Right now, you still have to use a local admin account to log in and manage everything.""I would like them to improve the look of the product’s external casing and shelves."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "With Pure Storage, we would like to continue seeing price reductions with flash storage. I don't think we're any different than anybody else when we continue to look to the industry for price reductions of both NVMe and traditional SSD storage. We would like to see these prices continue to decline and erode, even displacing large spinning disks."
  • "We pay approximately $50,000 USD per year in licensing fees."
  • "With VMware, we pay $300,000 annually."
  • "Our licensing fees are $500,000+ USD."
  • "As far as the licensing costs, everything is included in the license."
  • "They can tout the functionality and cutting edge technology that they have, but that's where the price tag comes in. The cost is high, but I think as they grow their business and get more customers that it will probably go down a little bit."
  • "Its price could be better. It is not too expensive, but it is the high-end cost. It is kind of a Rolls-Royce. You pay a lot, but you get a lot out of it. So, the price pressure on the way down would be great, but at the end of the day, if you need to do the work, you just pay for it."
  • "The licensing is on a yearly basis."

  • "I recommend the full bundle software in order to have all the functionality. It is more expensive to purchase it one by one."
  • "I think we pay around 100 grand per year for three arrays or four arrays."
  • More DDN IntelliFlash Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Kaminario is very competitive on price. They also have a pay per TB model."
  • "All features are provided in the licensing. The cost of Kaminario was less than the cost of a hybrid array."
  • "I would like them to come down in price. It is as expensive as EMC, Hitachi, and other major vendors."
  • "Licensing is very straightforward. The cost was considerably lower than other products we looked at."
  • "The "extra" costs associated with features and options that are available off the shelf with Kaminario, make their value proposition extremely competitive."
  • "The licensing is all-inclusive."
  • "The Kaminario setup is simple and there are no hidden licensing fees so this area is a relief."
