Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is a good tool and provides all the essential features for our business requirements.""Katalon Studio's biggest advantage is its price. It's a good tool for the price, albeit with some limitations when you compare it with tools like Tricentis Tosca.""This is a product that is well ahead of its immediate competition in features and functionality.""We are now performing automated testing in 15 minutes, which were previously taking a long time when doing it manually.""The basic framework and project organization is very good.""Smart Wait and XPath healing are valuable features.""It has been good so far for API testing on Mac. It is not that hard to learn and use. There is so much support out there, so if anyone wants to start using it, there is enough help.""I like the feature where you can define a model that represents your website and then reuse the components from the model. It makes creating more test cases easy."

"For traditional automation, approximately half of our tests end up automated. Therefore, we are saving half the testing time by pushing it off to automation. That gives it an intrinsic benefit of more time for manual testers and business testers to work on possibly more important and interesting things. For some of our applications, they don't just have to do happy path testing anymore, they can go more in-depth and breadth into the process.""I like the fact that we can use LeanFT with our UFT licenses as well.""The inside object repository is nice. We can use that and learn it through the ALM connection. That's a good feature. The reporting and smart identification features are also excellent.""It helps in identifying defects earlier. With manual testing, that 15-day timeline meant there were times when we would find defects on the 11th or 12th day of the cycle, but with automation we are able to run the complete suite within a day and we are able to find the failures. It helps us to provide early feedback.""The most valuable feature of Micro Focus UFT One is you are able to use it with many other technologies. I have not had an instance where the solution was not able to automate or execute automation. I was able to use COBOL to manage some automation.""The high-level security, high standard and compatible SAP are great.""It is easy to automate and new personnel can start learning automation using UFT One. You don't have to learn any scripting.""The solution is easy to integrate with other platforms."

Cons
"One aspect that can be improved is testing for desktop applications. I would like to see them support more technologies in this area.""I've seen that our clients are not truly aware of the power behind Katalon.""The price of the solution is a bit high. It's one of the reasons we decided not to continue using the product.""What it lacks is the Selenium Grid capabilities.""One improvement would be if it could support more programming languages such as JavaScript or Python. Right now, it is only on Groovy, which I think is not a too popular language.""It seems to lack a few requirements that a typical customer would want. Compared to other solutions, this product is lacking.""There is not much support offered for the free version, which is something that could be improved.""We would like to see improved integration with various reporting tools; this would make our testing data more complete."

More Katalon Studio Cons →

"Sometimes it appears that UFT takes a while to open and sometimes will run slower than expected. Also, UFT uses a lot of memory. On this note, if you are running UFT on a virtual server I would add more RAM memory than the minimum requirements especially when using multiple add-ins. HP is pretty good about coming out with new patches to fix known issues and it pays for the user to check for new patches and updates on a regular basis.""It doesn't support Telerik UI controls and we are currently looking for a patch for this.""Jumping to functions is supported from any Action/BPT Component code, but not from inside a function library where the target function exists in another library file. Workaround: Select search entire project for the function.""Perhaps more coverage as far as different languages go. I'm talking more about object identification.""I'd like to see UFT integrated more with some of the open source tools like Selenium, where web is involved.""UFT has a recording feature. They could make the recording feature window bigger for whatever activities that I am recording. It would improve the user experience if they could create a separate floating panel (or have it automatically show on the side) once the recording starts.""I am not sure if they have a vision of how they want to position the leads in the market, because if you look at Tosca, Tosca is one of the automation tools that have a strategy, and it recently updated its strategy with SAP. They are positioning them as a type of continuous testing automation tool. And if you notice Worksoft, particularly the one tool for your enterprise application, your Worksoft is positioning. I am not sure if Micro Focus UFT has a solid strategy in place. They must differentiate themselves so that people recognize Micro Focus UFT for that reason.""The AI feature needs improvement. For banking applications, we input formatted text from documents, but the AI feature is recognizing three fields as one field, e.g., for a phone number, it puts all 10 digits in the international code or country code. Then, the script fails."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There is no cost for setup or licensing."
  • "This product is freeware, so there is no charge for using it."
  • "The tool is free to use."
  • "It is freeware software, so start using it."
  • "There is a free version of the tool to use and support is available through the community forums, but there is a licensed version as well."
  • "We were using the free version of this tool."
  • "Katalon Studio is a free tool."
  • "We are using the free version of Katalon Studio at this point."
  • More Katalon Studio Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It took about five years to break even. UFT is costly."
  • "The licensing and pricing model is confusing."
  • "It's an expensive solution."
  • "For the price of five automation licenses, you simply would not be able to hire five manual testers for two years worth of 24/7 manual testing work on demand."
  • "The price is only $3,000. I don't know how many QA analysts you would have in any given company. Probably no more than five or 10. So if it's a large corporation, it can easily afford $15,000 to $25,000. I don't see that being an issue."
  • "The way the pricing model works is that you pay a whole boatload year one. Then, every year after, it is around half or less. Because instead of paying for the new product, you are just paying for the support and maintenance of it. That is probably one of the biggest things that I hear from most people, even at conferences, "Yeah, I would love to use UFT One, but we don't have a budget for it.""
  • "The pricing fee is good. If someone makes use of the solution once a day for a half hour then the fee will be more expensive. For continuous use and application of the solution to different use cases, the fee is average."
  • "The price is one aspect that could be improved."
