Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is easy to use.""It's similar to Excel, but it's much more powerful than Excel.""I like data modeling. You can connect with your database, which is quite useful for me. It is a good tool if you have a large amount of data and you want to gather different data and interconnect it. The Power Query functionality is quite an interesting feature. If you have a query in Excel, you can also copy your query and run it in Power BI. Its dashboard is also very nice and not complicated. You don't need to be a developer to be able to use it. I am not an IT guy, and it is quite easy to use for somebody who is not an IT person.""There was a lot of manual work involved with Excel, whereas once we moved on to Microsoft Power BI, it was a cleaner dashboard and it was faster too.""The sharing features are vital, especially the ability to share and test different shared dashboards.""My understanding is that the initial setup is pretty easy.""Provides good data flow related to the container and control flow.""We encourage end users to use Power BI because it's quite easy for them to interact with the menus and the navigation bar. Even for ordinary users, they can create their own dashboard using Power BI."

Cons
"Microsoft BI has its own challenges in terms of user interface and how quickly somebody can learn how to use it.""The setup took a lot of tinkering with InfoSec to allow us to do stuff.""From any improvement perspective, I want the product to be made available to users free of cost...The stability and scalability of the product can be better.""The DAX features need some improvement. It's not as easy as Excel. They need more DAX formulas.""Automation could be improved and performance enhanced.""Microsoft BI typically connects to a database, often SQL Server, but it's also capable of connecting to multiple databases, pulling data from them, and allowing for data consolidation. You can then aggregate and generate dashboards and reports from this combined data. Personally, I wouldn't claim to have the expertise to suggest significant changes or additional features, as it functions quite well as is.""In an upcoming release, the solution could be simplified and have a more complete product package rather than a suite of products that we have to put together.""Microsoft BI could improve by allowing large-size data sources. We have large data sources, and we have problems loading them in Microsoft BI."
