Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Scalability is very good.""NetApp Cloud Backup performance is good and they have beneficial technology.""One feature that works well for us is that the Cloud Manager is a completely agentless solution. There's a similar dashboard on both the versions for on-premises and the cloud, and with reference to the Cloud Manager, it's a little faster because there's nothing to be installed as such. Being agentless, it doesn't require any agent to be deployed on the targets where the backups are triggered."

"This solution has a very good technical support department that is very responsive.""The product is good in a small environment when looking to a backup on a tape.""The interface for this solution is excellent, and it is easy to restore files compared to other solutions.""One of the valuable features is the instant recovery for VMs. It reduces the RTO (Recovery Time Objective) drastically.""Veritas Backup Exec is easily managed.""The backup solution comes in different versions to support different platforms.""The most valuable feature is the ability to back up IBM Power virtual servers.""The most valuable feature is the user-friendly interface."

Cons
"One area that can be improved is around how we define the different KPIs. In particular, the business KPIs. I have my own in-house application for the business KPIs, so for example, with our policies around retention, which is a period of seven years, I have to read these parameters from other applications and I need them to integrate well.""Integration and reporting could be improved.""NetApp Cloud Backup could improve by being easier to use. Veeam solution is easier to use."

More NetApp Cloud Backup Cons →

"There is no training provided, and their technicians are unaware of the features available.""There still a lot of room for improvement in synthetic technologies, especially when targeted to deduplication media.""Veritas Backup Exec should be more user-friendly. The costs should also be much lower and it should be easier to go through the disaster recovery process.""In terms of improvements, I think the pricing model could be improved. They charge you by port, for every port that you have even if you're not using all of them.""The backup is not robust enough when you have a lot of technology.""The pricing could be improved.""The one thing which could be improved, which we have informed Veritas about, is the ability to plug in to the cloud. Meaning, instead of using local storage if we're backing up a small user or end user, we want to be able to make it so they can direct the backups directly to the cloud. It can't be done at the moment. We can only back up to the storage then replicate to the cloud, but we cannot use the cloud as a source of storage.""Expanding is difficult because if I want to add, for example, a terabyte of data, then I have to buy a disk shelf and it will cost me a lot."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our usage depends on the number of licenses we have. On the cloud, it's a pay-to-use kind of model which suits our needs well. Once we have the Cloud Manager installed, the licensing process is okay, regardless of whether we're running backups in the cloud or on-premises. Sometimes, we have to restrict the number of users as per the contractual agreement and in this case we simply cut down on the licensing."
  • "Cost could be lower."
  • "NetApp Cloud Backup has a subscription-based model and it is paid annually."
  • More NetApp Cloud Backup Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Pricing is similar, but they don´t offer the same options/technology."
  • "If your company can afford it, go for it."
  • "Depending on the scenario, it can cost less than half of the price of other methods."
  • "It is cheap compared to the other backup technologies. It all depends on the requirements."
  • "I would like to see a better licensing model. They changed it and it's just horrendous."
  • "Veritas licensing is somewhat expensive. They have to decrease the price."
  • "We are satisfied with the price of this solution."
  • "It's a good price for the product."

    Reviews from Real Users

Below are some reviews and helpful feedback written by Veritas Backup Exec users.

An IT Network Analyst at a manufacturing company says, “The backup potential of the solution is very good. It's protected us in the past very well and allowed us to get up and running after an attack with minimal loss. As far as if we need to restore a file, the solution absolutely has improved the way our organization functions. It saves us a lot of time. We're backing up all of our servers with it.”

PeerSpot user Masoud G., Senior Network Administrator at MapnaBE, mentions, “I prefer to use a tape library and Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries. So I prefer this software. It also has easy user and file recovery.”

Kayode O., Chief Technology Officer at a tech company, explains, “This solution creates a differential backup to reduce storage requirements. This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it. Veritas offers granular restore, which is an option that many other solutions do not have. It allows you to restore, for example, a single SharePoint document, rather than an entire site.”

Rowland G., Product Brand Manager at Epsidon Technology Distribution, states, “The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server. And also, the incremental backup which they introduced for virtual servers, where it makes it much quicker to restore, it just automatically is able to mount it back to the original backup. This makes it much quicker when you're doing the restore.”
