Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Very stable and very scalable.""NetApp is faster than other storage brands.""NetApp has its own dedicated operating system, so it will not be affected by any wireless piggybacking or malware. That's the beauty of NetApp's operating system.""As opposed to cloud, we have full control over security, use, who uses it. We own a number of different companies, so we can partition however we want.""The solution is stable.""Disaster recovery. And I like the security very much. I think they have the needed options for security. Can manage NPS using the same tools and process that we use today.""NetApp has really added a lot of features over the years to improve the product and performance. They can do things now like control ingress. They can control egress.""The most valuable feature of NetApp Private Storage is out-of-the-box integration with the SAN switches. They are much easier compared to Dell solutions. Additionally, the connector that comes with the solution that allows connection back to the Cisco SAN switches is very good. In Dell, I would need to use an FCIP or CIP port that is required."

"The most valuable feature of Qumulo is the ability to share files and reliability.""The ratio of total operational cost to complexity versus feature set is very good.""The most valuable features of Qumulo are its rolling updates and all-day availability.""The most valuable feature is real-time analytics.""The data protection algorithm to protect the data between the nodes has been the most valuable feature. The integration with backup platforms such as Veeam and Veritas has also been valuable.""The most valuable features of Qumulo are the ease of management and special permissions that are quick to enable. The overall performance of the solution is good.""The feature that I like most is the analytics part of the file system.""It is a very stable product. I never faced any issues."

Cons
"I would like to have the Active-Active feature. Some competitors already have it. I would like NetApp to add it to stay competitive.""We had to write a number of custom tools or scripts ourselves to use it as a staging area between our on-premises datacenter and our cloud installation.""The solution could improve by having better support experts. For example, they do not have clear instructions on configuration.""The users find the new version's GUI complicated to use.""There may actually be so many features that the end-user gets lost in the volume.""I think that it should work better with Microsoft solutions, more integrated with Microsoft. We also need integrated NAS and block storage.""I would like to see the GUI management simplified in the next release.""NetApp Private Storage is still integrated into the ISCSI connectivity and the FC protocol. I would recommend them to migrate to the FCIP because the SAN switches are moving further to an FCIP, and are scaling out of the ISCSI connectivity. Sooner or later, that will be an issue for NetApp Private Storage. An NFCIP should be available to them moving three years down the line."

"The support for iMac and protocols should be improved, not all features are available.""Qumulo should continue to expand automation and orchestration capabilities.""In the future, I would like to see non-disruptive updates.""The price of the software is a bit expensive, so a reduction in cost would make it more competitive.""In the next release, I would like to see the ability to have more control at a terminal level of the file system.""The solution could improve availability and improve data protection or data services such as compression of deduplication. In a future release, we'd like to have more cloud API integrations.""Some anti-theft permissions do not transfer well to Qumulo.""One aspect of Qumulo that I hoped to see improved was its software upgrade process, which did see significant progress during my usage. Initially, upgrading the software resulted in several minutes of system downtime. However, by the time I departed last summer, the downtime had reduced to mere ten seconds. Although I am unsure if Qumulo has yet achieved a completely outage-free upgrade, I simply performed the upgrades early in the morning before the marketing department began its workday, so any downtime was inconsequential."
