We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's very easy to set up, it's very easy to make policies and, for an organization, that means you don't need IT expert in firewalls. You just need to have somebody who knows a little bit of IT, and that's it. With other products, you need someone with a "Masters" degree in firewalls.""There are great templates, so you don't have to customize them if you don't want to. You do have the option to custom create some folders and some reports, however, with what is there, you don't really need to go through extra effort, as they already give you a lot of predefined views of reports and so forth.""It is very flexible to use.""Good load balancing feature.""It's inexpensive compared to some of the other technology out there.""Layer-3 firewall and routing are the most valuable features.""The simplicity of the product is great. It's very easy to use, which is a compliment we get all the time in terms of feedback.""The SD-WAN function is very developed. It has SD-WAN functionality with security features in one device. We can manage from one single console SD-WAN and the security policy."

"OPNsense is easy to use and open source.""OPNsense could improve by making the configuration more web-based rather than shell or command-line-based.""I feel that its valuable features are that it is simple and free.""It's open source.""The DNS-level filtering is impressive for thwarting time scanners.""The solution is good for a basic firewall for a small business or for home use.""We have been operating here in our lab for several months, and everything appears to be extremely stable.""OPNsense is easy to scale when running on the hardware."

"We are using it as a security shield. It does not allow access before that in case we have restricted a few things from users, so it helps me in that.""I believe it's the advanced security software that offers SMPP protection for the agent.""The product has helped control bandwidth utilization, as well as enhanced connectivity and security to remote locations.""I found that the best feature of Sophos Cyberoam UTM is reporting. Its reporting feature is excellent, fast, and easy to prep and launch.""We consider the user level and control features of Sophos Cyberoam UTM to be the best.""The security capabilities are okay.""I like the SSL VPN connection. Cyberoam works well for controlling users and authenticating their connection to the internet.""In terms of features and user-friendliness, the solution is good. It’s very stable. The solution is scalable. In Sophos Cyberoam UTM, the most valuable features are web and application filtering, routing functionalities, and VPN. It has helped us manage the bandwidth."

Cons
"My only complaint about FortiGate is a lack of QinQ VLAN tunneling. I haven't found this feature in any Fortinet product. You can do this on all Cisco routers, including the smaller models. However, QinQ isn't available on the biggest, most expensive Fortinet units. They still don't have that. I think now we're on software version 6.0, and they still haven't found a solution for QinQ. It isn't a dealbreaker, but that's my main complaint.""It does not have key authentication for admin access.""Fortinet FortiGate should improve the VPN tokens.""Fortinet FortiGate could improve by having more capabilities for troubleshooting VPN connections. For example, I do get some feedback about the current status, but I could use some history and logging of important events. The information is logged in our Syslog server, but I could use that information from the device. If they could provide a GUI to have some more insight on what's going with my VPN would be useful.""The way everything is set up could be easier. Currently, people need a lot of experience and knowledge to administer it and to link it to devices.""The web-cache feature which was previously on the FortiGate device, but was deleted with the recent upgrade should be returned. It was a very valuable feature for us.""I would like to see improvements with the antivirus and IPS as they are not working properly all the time.""I could not configure sFlow from the FortiGate graphical user interface. I realized that the sFlow configuration is available only from the CLI, and discovered that sFlow is not supported on virtual interfaces, such as VDOM links, IPsec, or GRE."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"The interface isn't so friendly user. But we have some technicians here who are quite confident with this tool. OPNSense could maybe add sets of rules so it's simpler to manage different groups with particular needs.""There are some add-ons that need enhancements to make management easier for users, especially the reporting features. Some reports don't show the level of detail I'm looking for, and I've had trouble installing certain add-ons, especially for Internet bandwidth shaping within my company.""An area for improvement in OPNsense is the hardware, which needs to be updated more frequently. DNS blocking is another good feature I want to be added to the solution. pfSense has a peer-blocking feature that I also want to see in OPNsense.""The interface of the solution is an area with shortcomings.""The user interface could be improved, and the DNS section should be more intuitive.""You will need additional training before you can actually start to use it.""There is room for improvement in SSL inspection.""On the customer-side, because I'm a small business, I need a cheaper or free solution option."

More OPNsense Cons →

"The implementation policy needs improvment.""The setup is a bit complex, so we needed help from a consultant.""The reports need to be more detailed and granular.""The product needs to improve its pricing.""The VPN needs to be improved.""The Traffic Discovery feature should allow administrators to disconnect unnecessary live connections.""Sometimes, during part of the configuration, if you don't have a lot of technical knowledge, then you may struggle a bit to configure it.""The configuration requires an expert to be set up, so it could be made simpler."
