We performed a comparison between Oracle VM VirtualBox and VMware vSphere based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Server Virtualization Software solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The installation is easy."
"The flexibility as well as performance wise and as well as data volume, we have huge volume stored."
"The pause feature is valuable. I can pause, which is something that not all hypervisors allow. The snapshot feature is also valuable."
"The product gives us the flexibility to try different machines."
"The flexibility and the closed platform, so it allows you to run in multiple platforms, Windows, Linux, Macintosh."
"I think VirtualBox has good stability because I use it in an environment with several resolutions."
"It's a pretty good product in terms of monitoring."
"Technical support is good."
"The ease of movement of these machines is the most valuable. It is very easy to move these machines between physical hosts. The fast deployment of services is another valuable feature."
"One of the things I like with the web client, versus the thick client, is that we're able to access all the vCenters that we manage. With the thick client, you have to log in to one vCenter at a time."
"The tool comes with scale-out capabilities. Deploying new infrastructure became much quicker, saving significant time previously spent sourcing hardware for each installation. It also has the ability to downscale on rack spaces, reducing the number of rack units needed to accommodate our servers."
"Stability and scalability are the most valuable features of this solution."
"It provides a new environment in an expedient manner."
"Valuable features include VHA, DRS, VMotion, and redundancy and failover; any DR situation."
"Production people can quickly reboot the server with ESXi Quick Boot."
"I like the standard features."
"One valuable feature would be for it to work right the first time but it doesn't necessarily do that."
"The technical support needs to improve."
"The communications setup lags. It does not connect properly so the batching and networking is a bit slow."
"This should have better support for multiple network cards and some parts of the GUI should be improved."
"Oracle VMs don't have a solid web interface of their own. This is an area where Oracle is lagging behind. Now, we use headless servers, install Oracle VMs, and manage them remotely. We could use phpVirtual Box, but it is a third-party solution. A lot of people contribute to it, and it's not authenticated by Oracle. As a result, I don't find it to be a good option. Therefore, I would like to see Oracle offer an extension pack or a licensed version that fixes this problem."
"The memory and hardware usage could be a little bit lighter. Right now, it's quite heavy on the usage. The CPU usage should be lower."
"The solution is a bit less stable than I would like."
"The solution needs to improve the methods used for starting and stopping the machine."
"VMware vSphere is perfect for the on-premise solution, but we are in the cloud era, so I think maybe VMware needs to invest more in the cloud and the microservice chain. It would be better if VMware offered more cloud solutions and continuous applications."
"Not having to buy something from a third-party to scan the actual hardware components, like the hard drives and the port containers and fan speeds; not having to bolt something on and go through another vendor, would be helpful."
"VMware vSphere needs to increase the datastore volume."
"They must work on the price, as well as the technical support."
"There are occasionally bugs or errors."
"The only concern that I have with VMware is the support. It is very limited and can be better."
"This solution should have a better backup policy. Furthermore, there should be an ability to expose the universal machine. In the current version, you need to shutdown and use an offline virtual machine to backup."
"We are provided with a mini dashboard that has been improved in the latest version but it still could be better. The monitoring is now available on the vCenter dashboard and the vROps has been added to the basic version that had to be purchased separately before. A complete dashboard has always been provided with some competitors, such as Nutanix."
