We performed a comparison between SAP Data Services and Talend Data Quality based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Data Quality solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Its integration capabilities and the data migration capabilities are the most valuable. It is very good for SAP and non-SAP tools. It has very good integration with SAP, but it also has the capabilities to connect to other systems. We find it very helpful and stable."
"You can always manipulate a lot of things as long as you have the skill level."
"It is a powerful product with a broad range of features."
"The reporting on the data, even from third-party software, is very good."
"The basic functionality is quite good as is the basic logic and data information."
"Data Services' best features are its robustness and plug-and-play integration with other SAP applications."
"The initial setup is not complex."
"I have worked with Data Services for a long time, and currently, I find the dashboarding and reporting part to be the most valuable function."
"tLogRows are also great for finding bad data."
"It has definitely streamlined certain processes."
"It’s easy to monitor the processes. Every morning I’ll open the Talend Administration Center to check the status of the process. Within seconds I’m able to see which process ran successfully and which have failed and why they failed."
"The features that I find to be the most valuable are the extensibility, the integration, and the ease of integration with multiple platforms."
"The most valuable feature lies in the capability to assign data quality issues to different stakeholders, facilitating the tracking and resolution of defective work."
"We have used value frequency and patterns. We have been it impressed with these functions as they have helped us in making decisions in transformation work."
"The solution enables robust data matching, merging, survivorship, and Data Stewardship that can be a part of data quality workflows or true master data management."
"The jobs are visual and this has improved collaboration between colleagues. It’s much easier to understand a visual job than a piece of Java code."
"Scheduling of jobs in the sequence is not available. It's a very tedious process to do that particular task. If there was a tool to schedule in the sequence that would be extremely helpful."
"An area for improvement in SAP Data Services could involve making the product more accessible to non-technical end-users."
"We encounter challenges while exporting implemented rules, such as those applied to objects like the material master, into a format like Excel for documentation and further analysis."
"We would like the different tools offered within this solution to be available as standalone entities, rather than having to purchase the entire package when we only require a few features."
"The description of error messages isn't extensive, although they point to the problem. With other solutions, like Talend, I was able to use the debugger to get directly to the problem, but with SAP Data Services the debugger is not working. I'm not sure if it's a problem with the version specifically, but I'm using it in an enterprise environment and I can't do an upgrade."
"It will work fine only in an SAP environment. It could be said that the integration with other vendors could be better."
"The solution shows a lack of cloud support data services."
"The execution engines and processing engines have shortcomings and need improvements."
"The ability to change the code when debugging the JavaScript could be improved."
"There are more functions in a non-streamlined manner, which could be refined to arrive at a better off-the-shelf functions."
"If the SQL input controls could dynamically determine the schema-based on the SQL alone, it would simplify the steps of having to use a manually created and saved schema for use in the TMap for the Postgres and Redshift components. This would make things even easier."
"When we upgraded to Version 6.4.1, we tried using a GIT repository instead of a SVN repository. After a few incidents where things disappeared and changes were not saved, we decided to go back to a SVN repository."
"They don't have any AI capabilities. Talend DQ is specifically for data quality, which only has data profiling. With Talend DQ, I cannot generate any reports today, so I need an ETL tool. It provides general Excel files, or I have to create some views. If instead of buying a new tool, Talend provides a reporting capability or solution, it would be great. It will reduce the development effort for creating these kinds of reports. We also manage the infrastructure for Talend. From the licensing perspective, for cloud, they only have seat licenses where one person is tied to one license, but for on-premise, they have concurrent licenses. It would be really awesome if they can provide concurrent licenses for the cloud so that if one person is not there, somebody else can use that license. Currently, it is not possible unless a person deactivates his or her license and moves the same seat license to someone else. We are one of the biggest customers in the central zone of the US for Talend, and this is the feedback that we have provided them again and again, but they come back and say that they aren't able to provide concurrent licenses on the cloud. In version 7.3, there is a feature for tokenization and de-tokenization of data. This is the feature that we are looking for. It is useful if somebody wants to see what we have masked and how do we demask it. This feature is not there in version 7.1. There are also a few other capabilities on the cloud, but we don't yet have a big footprint in the cloud."
"It would be more helpful if it offered dynamic dashboards that could be directly used by clients for better analysis."
"You can't join more than two tables for analysis."
"In redundancy analysis, the query is failing to bring non-matched records. This query is an internal script. There is no way (that I know of) to fix this syntax error for future runs."
