Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Snyk performs software composition analysis (SCA) similar to other expensive tools.""It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""The most valuable feature is that they add a lot of their own information to the vulnerabilities. They describe vulnerabilities and suggest their own mitigations or version upgrades. The information was the winning factor when we compared Snyk to others. This is what gave it more impact.""We have integrated it into our software development environment. We have it in a couple different spots. Developers can use it at the point when they are developing. They can test it on their local machine. If the setup that they have is producing alerts or if they need to upgrade or patch, then at the testing phase when a product is being built for automated testing integrates with Snyk at that point and also produces some checks.""The advantage of Snyk is that Snyk automatically creates a pull request for all the findings that match or are classified according to the policy that we create. So, once we review the PR within Snyk and we approve the PR, Snyk auto-fixes the issue, which is quite interesting and which isn't there in any other product out there. So, Snyk is a step ahead in this particular area.""The solution's vulnerability database, in terms of comprehensiveness and accuracy, is very high-level. As far as I know, it's the best among their competitors.""The most valuable feature of Snyk is the software composition analysis.""The CLI feature is quite useful because it gives us a lot of flexibility in what we want to do. If you use the UI, all the information is there and you can see what Snyk is showing you, but there is nothing else that you can change. However, when you use the CLI, then you can use commands and can get the output or response back from Snyk. You can also take advantage of that output in a different way. For the same reason, we have been using the CLI for the hard gate in the pipeline: Obtain a particular CDSS score for vulnerability. Based on that information, we can then decide if we want to block or allow the build. We have more flexibility if we use the CLI."

"The most valuable features of Tenable.io Web Application Scanning are the integration into specific use cases and scanning. All of the features of the solution are useful.""All the features are valuable to us as they offer cutting-edge scanning methods and address the latest issues with a contemporary approach. Tenable.io Web Application Scanning is highly stable. I rate it a nine out ten. Since the solution works on the Cloud, it's highly scalable. I rate the scalability a nine out of ten. The setup of the solution is straightforward. The Return on Investment is substantial. I recommend the solution to all.""We use the tool for our websites. We have a vulnerable subdomain. The tool helps to scan it for vulnerabilities.""Tenable provides the end analysis results covering all the published vulnerabilities and information on the market.""The most valuable feature is the reporting, which provides a good level of detail with respect to vulnerabilities.""It collects the vulnerabilities on the hostnames and sends them to the Tenable.io cloud. Tenable has its own cloud where Tenable.io is running, but there are many connectors to other cloud solutions. Tenable can do vulnerability scanning for other cloud managers such as Azure, Amazon, and so on.""The solution's instant reports feature is the most effective for detecting threats.""Our customers adopt this solution because of the replication testing and the vulnerability assessment it can do. It is a multi-faceted product."

Cons
"We have seen cases where tools didn't find or recognize certain dependencies. These are known issues, to some extent, due to the complexity in the language or stack that you using. There are some certain circumstances where the tool isn't actually finding what it's supposed to be finding, then it could be misleading.""For the areas that they're new in, it's very early stages for them. For example, their expertise is in looking at third-party components and packages, which is their bread-and-butter and what they've been doing for ages, but for newer features such as static analysis I don't think they've got compatibility for all the languages and frameworks yet.""Offering API access in the lower or free open-source tiers would be better. That would help our customers. If you don't have an enterprise plan, it becomes challenging to integrate with the rest of the systems. Our customers would like to have some open-source integrations in the next release.""Generating reports and visibility through reports are definitely things they can do better.""The tool's initial use is complex.""There is always more work to do around managing the volume of information when you've got thousands of vulnerabilities. Trying to get those down to zero is virtually impossible, either through ignoring them all or through fixing them. That filtering or information management is always going to be something that can be improved.""The tool should provide more flexibility and guidance to help us fix the top vulnerabilities before we go into production.""They need to improve the Snyk plugins and make it easier to make your optimizations based on your own needs or features."

More Snyk Cons →

"They have a general dashboard for web application scanning, but the dashboards and reporting can be improved. They probably have some features in their roadmap.""The solution's dashboards could be improved and made more user-friendly.""Tenable.io Web Application Scanning could improve by offering faster fuzzing.""Tenable.io Web Application Scanning conducts a general scan, which wastes time. The scan needs to be specific.""I would like for them to add proxy filtering, where you can transfer and alter the package. It is fully automated. Other web application testers programs are actually proxy software, and the proxy software gives you the flexibility of modifying the outgoing package, which will actually help you in exploiting any vulnerability in detail.""Tenable.io Web Application Scanning is not very user-friendly and you need a lot of information to get proper reports. The tool's support is not very responsive.""The technical support should be improved. Currently, some attacks are detected while others are not.""It isn't easy to manage vulnerabilities in Tenable."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It's inexpensive and easy to license. It comes in standard package sizing, which is straightforward. This information is publicly found on their website."
  • "We do have some missing licenses issues, especially with non-SPDX compliant one, but we expect this to be fixed soon"
  • "You can get a good deal with Snyk for pricing. It's a little expensive, but it is worth it."
  • "Their licensing model is fairly robust and scalable for our needs. I believe we have reached a reasonable agreement on the licensing to enable hundreds of developers to participate in this product offering. The solution is very tailored towards developers and its licensing model works well for us."
  • "The price is good. Snyk had a good price compared to the competition, who had higher pricing than them. Also, their licensing and billing are clear."
  • "It's good value. That's the primary thing. It's not cheap-cheap, but it's good value."
  • "With Snyk, you get what you pay for. It is not a cheap solution, but you get a comprehensiveness and level of coverage that is very good. The dollars in the security budget only go so far. If I can maximize my value and be able to have some funds left over for other initiatives, I want to do that. That is what drives me to continue to say, "What's out there in the market? Snyk's expensive, but it's good. Is there something as good, but more affordable?" Ultimately, I find we could go cheaper, but we would lose the completeness of vision or scope. I am not willing to do that because Snyk does provide a pretty important benefit for us."
  • "Snyk is a premium-priced product, so it's kind of expensive. The big con that I find frustrating is when a company charges extra for single sign-on (SSO) into their SaaS app. Snyk is one of the few that I'm willing to pay that add-on charge, but generally I disqualify products that charge an extra fee to do integrated authentication to our identity provider, like Okta or some other SSO. That is a big negative. We had to pay extra for that. That little annoyance aside, it is expensive. You get a lot out of it, but you're paying for that premium."
  • More Snyk Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing is okay."
  • "It follows the same licensing scheme as Tenable.io and Tenable. sc."
  • "The price of the solution is reasonable compared to the competitors. The license cost is based on the number of users and the annual usage."
  • "Tenable.io Web Application Scanning is expensive for small businesses."
  • "The application is extremely affordable. There are no additional costs involved with licensing. We switched to Tenable.io Web Application Scanning from other solutions due to pricing."
  • "I rate the product's pricing a four out of ten."

    Overview

Snyk is a user-friendly security solution that enables users to safely develop and use open source code. Users can create automatic scans that allow them to keep a close eye on their code and prevent bad actors from exploiting vulnerabilities. This enables users to find and remove vulnerabilities soon after they appear.

    Benefits of Snyk

Some of the benefits of using Snyk include:

    • Conserves resources: Snyk easily integrates with other security solutions and uses their security features to ensure that the work that users are doing is completely secure. These integrations allow them to protect themselves without pulling resources from their continued integration or continued delivery workflows. Resources can be conserved for areas of the greatest need.
    • Highly flexible: Snyk enables users to customize the system’s security automation features to meet their needs. Users can guarantee that the automation performs the functions that are most essential for their current project. Reviews from Real Users

Snyk is a security platform for developers that stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its ability to integrate with other security solutions and important insights that it can enable users to discover. Snyk enables users to combine its already existing security features with those of other solutions to create far more robust and flexible layers of security than what it can supply on its own. It gives users the ability to dig into the security issues that they may experience. Users are given a clear view of the root causes of these problems. This equips them to address the problem and prevent similar issues in the future.

Cameron G., a security software engineer at a tech company, writes, “The most valuable features are their GitLab and JIRA integrations. The GitLab integration lets us pull projects in pretty easily, so that it's pretty minimal for developers to get it set up. Using the JIRA integration, it's also pretty easy to get the information that is generated, as a result of that GitLab integration, back to our teams in a non-intrusive way and in a workflow that we are already using. Snyk is something of a bridge that we use; we get our projects into it and then get the information out of it. Those two integrations are crucial for us to be able to do that pretty simply.”

Sean M., the chief information security officer of a technology vendor, writes, "From the software composition analysis perspective, it first makes sure that we understand what is happening from a third-party perspective for the particular product that we use. This is very difficult when you are building software and incorporating dependencies from other libraries, because those dependencies have dependencies and that chain of dependencies can go pretty deep. There could be a vulnerability in something that is seven layers deep, and it would be very difficult to understand that is even affecting us. Therefore, Snyk provides fantastic visibility to know, "Yes, we have a problem. Here is where it ultimately comes from." It may not be with what we're incorporating, but something much deeper than that."

Tenable.io Web Application Scanning safely, accurately and automatically scans your web applications, providing deep visibility into vulnerabilities and valuable context to prioritize remediation.
