We performed a comparison between Veeam Backup & Replication and VMware SRM based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Veeam Backup & Replication comes out on top in this comparison due to its robust performance and user-friendly interface. Veeam Backup & Replication also has a significant ROI.
"Its performance is fine. It supports us very well. It is able to support our policy for RTO, RPO, and other things that we need."
"I think that the scalability is very good. We can't compare it."
"Very flexible, all-in-one solution."
"The most valuable feature of Veeam Backup & Replication is the ease of use."
"It's not complex to replicate and back up the system."
"Veeam Backup Replication's most valuable features are the ease of use and the interface is very configurable for the users. It's a very familiar solution in Algeria."
"Veeam communicates with the vCenter in VMware, which means it's very smooth and doesn't interrupt production on VMware and you can backup or restore anytime, anywhere."
"The most important part is that you actually know you have a backup of the whole virtual server."
"In terms of resiliency, the most valuable aspect of SRM has been its effectiveness."
"The most valuable feature is disaster recovery testing."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is that you can independently run the disaster recovery without disturbing the production instances."
"The most valuable features are the disaster recovery and testing."
"My impression is that the initial setup process is relatively straightforward."
"The stability of SRM has been excellent. It gets a nine-out-of-ten."
"The replication is the solution's most valuable feature. If we have some issues on the VM in the main site we can migrate it to another site automatically."
"The most valuable feature of VMware SRM is its integration with the VMware platform."
"The direct SAN backup integration can be perfected by improving the snapshot removal mechanism and process from the storage volumes."
"I would like them to move back to host licensing."
"I would like to see the licensing model improved. They have recently changed the model and have made it more complicated."
"It needs to support more applications. In terms of supported applications, Oracle SQL and Office 365 are supported, but I am not sure if it supports Linux-based applications. That's why I'm looking for an alternative. I am currently testing Commvault. The advantage of Commvault is that a lot of applications are supported with it. I am not sure if CIFS is currently supported. It would be nice to have this feature in case it is not already supported"
"It would be ideal if they could capture everything and then timestamp and back up everything up to that timestamp."
"We would like to see support for some additional storage systems."
"I would like to have them come up with more robust features when it comes to individual endpoint protection."
"They can improve the features and Veeam Enterprise Manager. The interface and features are kind of limited. It would be good if they can provide more features and a better interface. For example, if I want to provide certain users with the privilege to back up and restore and do day-to-day tasks, I cannot do it in the current version. It is like you either give everything to everyone or no user can have access to anything. In version 9, a lot of features were missing, and it wasn't clear. Version 10 is easier from the communication perspective, and the disk backup option is very clear."
"Flexibility to choose different PITs would be nice."
"Cost is definitely an area where the product could be improved."
"The price, in general, could be lower."
"I would like to see better integration with other storage solutions. I would hope to see that within the next two or three years."
"The technical support is not quick enough to respond when a user tries to contact them."
"Currently, there is a limitation of consolidating only 15 sites per SRM."
"The solution is on the expensive side."
"Lacks stability and as a result requires continuous monitoring."
