We performed a comparison between Veeam Backup & Replication and VMware SRM based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Veeam Backup & Replication comes out on top in this comparison due to its robust performance and user-friendly interface. Veeam Backup & Replication also has a significant ROI.
"The user interface is good and it is very easy to use."
"The direct SAN backup feature perfectly integrates with our 3PAR storage infrastructure."
"The replication is the most valuable feature for us."
"Storage Snapshot is a good feature and very safe."
"The good thing about Veeam is that its initial setup and usage are straightforward."
"It's simply very good software for backup purposes."
"The most valuable feature is how reliable Veeam Backup is. It has the normal expected features that allow you to ensure that everything is backed up completely."
"I'm pleased with the ability to search for documents; it's very useful."
"Our systems fail over using SRM. So, we do a big bang DR, which is biannual, and we fail over our fairly massive Epic electronic health record (EHR) and our core applications. It takes us about 30 minutes to fail over using SRM, which is pretty good. In most hospitals that have Epic installed, Epic does the audit to make sure that we can fail over if something were to happen. Normally, sites will have a DR solution specific to the EHR, but right now, our pain point is the third-party tier-one clinical applications."
"We find the back up feature of this solution to be particularly valuable."
"The solution can be deployed in a couple of hours."
"VMware SRM replicates the VM from one site to another, and it helps us orchestrate the powering of VMs and DR when the DC goes down."
"VMware SRM is a very nice tool for disaster recovery for virtual environments."
"My impression is that the initial setup process is relatively straightforward."
"The solution is simple to use and has effective automation."
"The most valuable feature of VMware SRM is its integration with the VMware platform."
"In the next release I would like to see a bit more intelligence as far as a solution or troubleshooting - to put it more on the level of resolution and not simply identifying there is a problem."
"Some support replies for a broken backup task have been "rebuild the job from scratch" and this is a bad thing to do if you have many VMs and repositories."
"I would want them to improve some technical features that are still missing because we are working with NetApp NVMe and they're not fully supporting it yet. But both NetApp and Veeam know about it and they're working on it."
"Device backup could be improved."
"I would like a solution for SAP systems to be included."
"They have an integration with MS SQL, and you have to license MS SQL. This is something they need to change. They should go for an open-source database or a free SQL because you're already buying this product, and you shouldn't have to buy another product."
"In terms of what can be improved, I would say they could add automations for disaster migrations and for reverse replication. Overall, they need more automation."
"Recovery speed is slow. Full recovery on large machines (1TB+) takes too long"
"The interface is not easy to use and can be made more user-friendly."
"There needs to be better stability during heavy capacity in future releases."
"The solution could improve by removing some of the limitations we have been facing. There could be better integrated."
"Sometimes it can cause a bit of downtime during switchovers."
"They could enhance the automation features for the product."
"The user experience could be more friendly."
"If you have a failover case, you need to work on it manually. It would be helpful if this could be automated. It would simplify things."
"The product's stability could be better."
