Great wireless access with consistently updating features and great marketing capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "With Mist, every Wednesday they roll out new features."
  • "The price could be better."

What is our primary use case?

For the access points, what we're using the product for is location-enabled services. They're making access points wireless.

One use case is in football stadiums that need multiple access points in different locations so that there are no Wi-Fi drop-offs or dead zones within the center. Basically, we're able to set up wireless access points that would mitigate how many actual access points have to be set up.

People can go around and turn on these access points or check for areas within a stadium to make sure the network is available to use. They can lower the number of access points needed for generous coverage across a wide area.

With these access points, you'd be able to get messages and notifications within those connected to the network, such as deals within the stores or stadium and welcome-back messages if you are returning to the network, so there are marketing opportunities as well.

What is most valuable?

Familiarity with the products that are already logged into the Access Point is quite useful. For example, if you go to PetSmart, and you have already logged in before, and if you have an appointment for grooming, the system would basically welcome you to a store, give you the wait time on your grooming appointment, or it might send you a discount for products within the store.

Obviously, being wireless is a huge thing as well.

With Mist, every Wednesday they roll out new features. Being able to be disruptive in the market is definitely something that's useful and keeps them on top.

What needs improvement?

The price could be better. That is relative to the market right now since it is such a valued Access Point and system to have in place. They can label it at that price, however, for smaller companies who want to use their system, it might be a little too much. It is on the more expensive side. Maybe if you already have a Fortinet system in place, that could be a cheaper option and more reliable for you. However, in the case of Juniper, dropping the price for smaller operations would be useful to expand their reach.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for just a month or two.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support is fantastic. They are quick to respond and always rolling out new features. We are very happy with their level of service.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I'm familiar with Ruckus as well. It has similar functionality.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is a bit expensive. However, it is such a valued system, they can charge whatever they want.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten. I don't have too much familiarity with how it actually operates. However, it is a great product. The people who use it are very impressed with its capabilities.

Superior AI capabilities compared to other OEMs
Pros and Cons
  • "The AI capabilities of Mist Wireless are superior to other OEMs."
  • "There is room for improvement in terms of support and installation."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Juniper's wireless access points for IoT devices in hardware warehouses. We also use them in multiple office locations, allowing us to manage everything in a single pane of glass. That's why we opted for Juniper's solution.

What is most valuable?

The valuable features depend on the specific needs of our customers. For example, if a customer asks for Mist solution and has specific preferences, we offer the ERC (Enterprise Readiness Certification). At the same time, I'm also working with Aruba on a Proof of Concept (POC).

We provide our customers with different options and let them choose their preferred OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer). Based on their experience and feedback, both Aruba and Juniper's Mist offer similar technology and feature sets for network usability. Ultimately, we let the customer decide.

It is a stable solution. According to my customers, the AI capabilities of Mist Wireless are superior to other OEMs.

What needs improvement?

Earlier, there were some issues. Initially, managing the network was quite challenging, and the user interface for the dashboard was not as good.

The problem was that the switch behaved very weirdly. It was not able to integrate or recognize its own components. There were also time synchronization issues. If it came up on the switches, it caused the network to go down. We faced a couple of cases, but they resolved it.

Moreover, there is room for improvement in terms of support and installation.

For how long have I used the solution?

It's been almost nine years. The version and model depend on the customer's ask. We generally use models ranging from e21 to e43. All these access points are managed on their Cloud platform.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution was a bit unstable previously, but now it's stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. Our clients are mostly enterprise businesses.

How are customer service and support?

Customer service and support are okay. The response time could be faster.

But Cisco offers better support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is difficult compared to other solutions like Cisco and Aruba.

The difficulty is in the integration with their switches. It's a bit difficult, especially when it comes to wireless integration with the existing switches. In this regard, Aruba performs better. I'm not saying we can't do it with Juniper, but the ease of integrating it with other OEMs' products is declining.

Moreover, it requires maintenance. Generally, we offer managed services. Maintenance depends on the size of the network infrastructure. Generally, one person is enough.

What about the implementation team?

Usually, we have two to three engineers and one architect for the deployment process.

The deployment is a matter of days, but with our skilled engineers, we can handle it. If the user is trained, we can do it, but not everyone can.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Compared to Cisco, the pricing is cheap. Customers have to pay for yearly licenses.

What other advice do I have?

Just evaluate all these three OEMs: Cisco, Aruba, and Juniper. These are the three major OEMs. And better, like, when we talk about a network and how you can integrate AI in your network, then you can check that one with Aruba as well as Juniper or Cisco. So here, in this case, Aruba and Cisco as Juniper is leading that, and we also have a really good product, and Juniper also has a very good product. So first, evaluate all the options before making a decision.

Overall, I would rate the solution an eight out of ten. There is room for improvement in support and installation.

The solution comes with AI tools and many other valuable features
Pros and Cons
  • "You can easily monitor, manage, and cover all your IT equipment."
  • "The pricing is very high in the Indian market."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is good as a portal to manage your access points, users, and all the devices very smoothly. The solution manages their traffic and their logs as well.

What is most valuable?

You can easily monitor, manage, and cover all your IT equipment. It is a good, complete package with AI. The features I find most valuable are Marvis and the WAN assurance.

What needs improvement?

The pricing is very high in the Indian market. Eight to nine OEMs are also available in the market, giving you their solutions for 70% less than Juniper's. They need to improve that if they want to cover their ROI.

If Juniper could allow us to manage Mist plus a cloud-based firewall, it would be a better solution for the market because we could provide WAN assurance. We could also do more work on the firewall and security part.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Juniper Mist Wireless Access Points for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate Juniper Mist's stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate Juniper Mist's scalability a nine out of ten. Over 500 users are using the solution in my organization.

How are customer service and support?

Juniper's technical support is not good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used a different solution and switched because Juniper had new features and technology, such as Bluetooth tagging and Marvis. Troubleshooting is also easier with Juniper, so we adopted the new technology.

How was the initial setup?

I rate the initial setup a seven out of ten. Nothing about the initial is complex; a new user must go through a particular associated video. However, this is not available from Juniper. People used YouTube to help configure the solution. Juniper Mist is not very easy or fast. It is a mid-product, and those who just want to configure it can access basic tutorials available in the market. But, they are not full-fledged compared to Cisco, Sophos, or Fortinet. Those solutions make more videos available to the users.

The time taken to deploy the solution is based on the project. It is manageable when proceeding with a plan.

We configure the solution on different platforms. We require two to three staff members if we choose WAN assurance, routing and switching, or WiFi parts. Whoever has experience with the technology will be able to deploy it.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I rate Juniper Mist's pricing a ten out of ten since it is expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Alternatives include Sophos and FortiGate. Apart from the better technology, the monitoring, troubleshooting, and security features are better in Juniper.

What other advice do I have?

By default, the solution is deployed on the cloud. Nobody chooses on-prem because they'll only be able to control basic things. If one wants to control their infrastructure, I recommend they deploy the solution on the cloud.

If you plan to choose Juniper Mist, I advise you to explore the first demo or trial session. That will give you a better idea to compare it to other solutions and help you understand the solution better before deploying.

I rate Juniper Mist Wireless Access Points an eight out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) are for network connections.

How has it helped my organization?

The zero-touch provisioning and AI have helped out our organization because customers can install APs in less time than other solutions.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) is the ability to troubleshoot ports on the network. Additionally, when there is an update on the APs they are able to reboot quickly reducing downtime. Other solutions have a longer downtime when updates are done.

What needs improvement?

Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) could improve if the MIST platform had a built-in master key. This would be an advantage.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) for approximately three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability of Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) is good as long as you have a stable internet connection. The only time you might have an issue is if you need to make a complete change and the client's connection is down. For example, if there is an issue with the ISP and new changes are not pushed to the AP.

I rate the stability of Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) an eight out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution does not have an on-premise platform and this is one of the advantages of the MIST platform. You are able to go to the cloud to receive resources easily.

Most of our clients are SMBs and we have hundreds of users using this solution. All job roles are using the solution for conductivity.

I rate the scalability of Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) a nine out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

We are certified to use this solution we have not needed the support. We solve a lot of the issues we have ourselves.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series)is easy. It took us to deploy 50 to 80 APs approximately two days. However, this timeframe excludes the mounting of the hardware.

I rate the initial setup of Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) a nine out of ten.

What about the implementation team?

We used one to two engineers for the deployment of the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is something Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) can work on. The pricing is very high compared to the competition.

What other advice do I have?

There is limited maintenance required because the client has an AI platform behind the monitoring system which gives them insight into the problems they're having on the network.

We are only starting out using the solution for one client and my knowledge is limited.

I rate Juniper Wireless Access Points (AP Series) an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
