QlikView Valuable Features
It is useful to use a tool like this to have a view of data at a point in time. You can extract and create little data sets that you can store, and then over time, you can have a view for tracking changes. Especially when you work with a relational database or a database that's a production database, the data is dynamic, but if you use QlikView, you can take a snapshot of different datasets. In your own time, you can then get insights and report, build, analyze, and draw whatever you need from the data, which is quite useful. So, it is easy to create a data set of specific fields or variables that you need. You create the snapshot, and it then basically stores that into its own little file that you can build over time.

The product provides availability or adaptability for building an analytics dashboard. The selection parameters are easy to access. By applying specific filters in Excel, we can distribute a country's sales data into provincial states and then cities. It has efficient breakdown features.
View full review »The most valuable aspect is its extensive library on Microsoft, providing a robust framework for implementation.
The most useful feature of QlikView for me is the QVD concept. It allows me to compress and store data, improving application performance by reducing load times. Additionally, I find the access control feature valuable as it enables me to restrict data access based on roles, ensuring data security. Lastly, the ability to schedule tasks using the QMC automates data reloads, keeping dashboards up-to-date without manual intervention.
Our clients are looking for a migration process that's as trouble-free as possible, and Qlik Sense is doing well in areas such as database connections and integration, including in SaaS environments where QlikView is still a valuable option. It excels in supporting database connections and various database types.
View full review »The most valuable features of QlikView for our organization have been its robust data analysis and visualization capabilities. In addition, the integration with Salesforce has helped us gain access to crucial sales data in real-time. Salesforce is a reasonable price compared to other applications.
View full review »One of the good thing is that you can integrate different data source technologies. So you can model your environment without having any of our views running. And I see that our tool would essentially have its own programming language. So that's how you can customize a lot of things.

View full review »The ability to capture data from multiple sources, quickly link by key fields and quickly analyse in a dashboard proved to be such powerful features that we reduced the use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access almost entirely for any kind of reconciliations.
I worked in a financial institution having most data in mainframes but also having extracts and datasets put into various places from highest quality Oracle and MS SQL server objects right down to MS Access/Excel and continuing to Text File output.
Sometimes for either quality control purposes daily or some other kind of reconciliation or verification, QlikView was great for a basic end user with minimal skill to bring that data in and map it as necessary to achieve the desired result. (Often the datasets easily map via a couple of primary fields that the business users understand and outside developers may not understand without a business analyst specification)
Most times making that ad hoc effort a template of some sort and making mundane roles like daily recons be easily achievable.
Doing this same work in MS Excel or MS Access can be tricky and dangerous and not be as intuitive for non-technical people. Doing it other ways can end up being too much effort with hiring developers and building systems and paying for a lot of developer man-hours when a quick QV dashboard does the trick by the business end user.

1. QlikView Scripting - Takes some time to learn, but it is very powerful. Not as a total ETL replacement tool necessarily, but as a supplement to load and join data sources, perform additional transformations, add supplemental inline tables, and even at times, output a final .txt/.csv for consumption by other tools (even Tableau!). I've combined as many as a half dozen data sources including data from multiple SQL Data Marts, Teradata Data Marts,Source System DBs, XLS, CSV, and Google Big Query.
2. Design Flexibility - While other products may do drag and drop, ad-hoc reporting analytics better. (Including Tableau, and Qlik's new product QlikSense) I've not come across one that better supports the creation of a polished, packaged, custom dashboard, that supports what I'd consider "guided exploration", and best meets the needs of our user base. The customization can be taken even further through in-house built, or borrowed, extensions (e.g. Custom D3 Visualizations).

View full review »The strongest characteristics of the product are its ease of use and its data discovery and exploration capabilities:
- Ease of use, as it is very intuitive, as long as its back end data model is well designed, providing its end users with a high level of autonomy and the developers with a very intuitive and complete set of tools.
- Data discovery and exploration, thanks to its in-memory data association capabilities that provide a fast and easy way to relate and explore data.
Once you select any data on the dashboard, QlikView highlights the unavailable data in grey in order to show to users that those combinations don’t exist or aren’t possible.
Filters are not local. Once you filter something, the standard is to apply the filter to all tabs available in the dashboard.

If we have an FTD, we can see when this FTD came in. This is very, very important for me and for our team to see how the actual FTD came in and when, as, for our department, we are building campaigns for traffic. If we have an FTD that registers today and deposits today, this is different than another scenario where we have when leads from last year that are deposited today. The faster I can see this, the more helpful it is. This is a key feature for me.
It's easy to use in terms of navigation. Once you open it up, you see everything that you can do. You can see what filters you have to choose from right at the beginning, on the first page.

Extraction from almost all data sources provides a lot of value to me. Ease of operation, data modelling and creating dashboards with simple objects and the abundance of visualizations are also valuable.
We extract our data from SAP BW as well as Update 7 data source. Extracting and associating these data to form Main Data Model is quite simple. The objects that QlikView provides can be used to make complex KPIs for visualization. Apart from these for visualization, we also implemented many extension objects of Maps with our QlikView applications.

The scalability is there.
QlikView’s associative model is a fantastic design that enabled the Green/White/Grey feature. This feature greatly helped us highlight the relationship between different kinds of data.
To further explain the Green/White/Grey feature, let’s take a sales report of an electronics shop as an example. In this report, it may have dimensions (Product Category, Salesman) and expressions (Sales Qty, Sales Amount).
Green means the values of dimension that you have selected. Under the Product Category dimension, it will have different values e.g. Smartphone, Laptop, Desktop. If we want to see the sales performance of Smartphone, we can click on Smartphone, then it will become green. We can also select multiple values e.g. Smartphone and Laptop in the dimension.
White – shows the values of dimension which are related to the another dimension values that you have selected.
Grey - shows the values of dimension which are NOT related to the another dimension values that you have selected. By following the previous example, we have selected Smartphone in Product Category dimension. In the Salesman dimension, Salesman e.g. Jeremy or Janice who have have sold Smartphone will be shown in white color. Another Salesman, e.g. Roy, who didn’t sell Smartphone will be shown as Grey. This is very useful for us to identify relationship between dimensions
Its “Search Object” function is also very useful for us to search for the information we needed.
“Section Access” is another great feature as we can identify user authority on accessing data in an easy way.
Another feature "Set Analysis" which enabled us to configure different behavior for each dashboard. So that some dashboards (e.g. YTD) can be freezed and not affected by some of the filter selections.
View full review »My company is big on dashboards and this application excels in this space. Endless customization is key to meet everyone's needs. It enables quick and easy access anywhere in the world in real-time. We have satellite offices on different continents with a different time zone which makes it quite a challenge to show real-time values.
QlikView is for the end-user easy to use; a few clicks suffice to answer the question at hand.
QlikView has got a very intuitive approach of visualizations, both from a developer's point of view as well as the end-users. It makes complex data easy to understand with little prior knowledge of how reading graphs is required.
View full review »The associative/relationship engine and fast performance are the most valuable features of the product for me. It is excellent for number crunching with basic visualizations and known questions.
View full review »QlikView’s associative ability. The AQL that QlikView uses to associate and ‘bring together’ similar data types (based on name) is extremely powerful and useful. One click causes a whole ripple effect though the whole dashboard, because everything is associated to one another.
View full review »Ability to connect and transform data from a variety of sources into the same application. From an analytical development perspective, there is a wide scope to create complex calculations within chart expressions, (including recursive expressions), which, combined with the trellis functionality, means more output with less setup effort.
A well designed app brings freedom of inquiry to meetings, allowing me to answer questions in real time and this has transformed progress and outputs of our monthly group meeting.
Finally, it really is a case of data instantly updating upon selection. No more watching an egg timer as a server churns away.
- The in-memory engine is really powerful, making it possible to deal with huge data records on the fly (more than 400 million in a table). I have built data models with over 1 billion records and the performance is good.
- With in-memory calculations at the UI (on the fly), it is possible to build charts, tables, etc. directly on the user interface (UI).
- Cubes are built on the UI. No need to pre-aggregate data, but it is of course possible to do that in the script (which I would not recommend) or better deliver data as SQL-View.
- Scripting possibilities to build complex applications and functionality.
- Web integration capabilities, for ex. you can include JScript Objects or R for better visualization.
- KPI's
- Dashboard creation
As a BI professional sometimes you have to tackle projects with poor or no documentation at all, just the datasources and some vague requirements. In QlikView it is quite easy build up a first data model (dimensional or not) and use the first stage to understand the entities and relations between it and the business. From there you can explore the business, understand the users real requirements and needs and improve the model with a few changes, without much effort. This is because Qlikview has a very flexible and short cycle of development in each iteration.
For the user QlikView is a wonderful tool of data discovery, providing powerful tools to navigate easily between a sea of data in an intuitive, easy, and clear way, allowing them to go from facts to KPI and vice versa.
View full review »The in-memory technology allows you to easily manipulate and analyze vast amounts of data with simple clicks. We appreciate the different methods how data can be provided to a developer, designer and end users. Develop new reports from production databases to final reports without additional tools and
the high-performance loading data from database without any performance issues on the database environment. The loading performance of QlikView data container.
The traditional BI tools are extremely limiting in the fact that they require very strict controls on the sources of data. This is understandable in very large corporates, but in a small- to medium-size business, where most supporting data sources are nothing more than an Excel spreadsheet, this is a pain. Therefore, my most valuable asset in QlikView is the ease with which any datasource can be integrated into the QlikView model for reporting.
View full review »- ETL functionality is hugely important, as data rarely are provided smooth and clean, even when the assumption is it has been cleaned beforehand. Plus, usually in BI, we need to create custom groupings, and being able to do that in script ad-hoc is very helpful
- Scripting for loads, with lots of functions, and insert script possibilities all provide extremely good flexibility for development.- Overall flexibility and ease of development is great for ad-hoc quick fixes, quick workarounds, which happen in BI
- Set-analysis function, unique for QV, is an awesome way to create subsets, literally under any chart/table/text box needed in a smart, fast way (replaces long expressions such as “if...then...“). It also allows you to control results, taking into consideration user clicking and selecting data.
- Associative model is super handy to just take an overview of data quality through visual associations (power of grey).
- Data governance is an extremely usable feature; there is no need for BI to build its own app, and it helps with licence monitoring.
Data exploration and in-memory capabilities: It has an associative data exploration feature and can handle one hundred million lines of data and provide good performance.
