Consequently, Microsoft SQL server is best choice.

SQL Server Microsoft
Microsoft itself is the name of trustworthiness, solid promise, reliability, steadfastness, loyalty and commitment. Among its ranges of products which are mostly open source and freely available for consumers, Microsoft SQL server is useful for the “Great Data Storage” tool. The latest version of MS SQL server is 2012 which incorporates many enhanced features but previous versions like 2003 and 2008 also meet the needs to store data and analytics of data during structuring query.
Microsoft SQL server 2012 emerged in three different versions Standard, Enterprise and Business edition. The basic standard version can be used by smaller companies' databases and include many vivacious features to manage the data integration. Some features are not available but still it meet the needs of consumers and data handlers. Other two editions have more features like high end data integration, large data analysis, query optimization and other data encapsulation.
It can also integrate to Apache Hadoop e.g. running on different remote machines, capturing queries and send them to SQL server for further investigation. It can manage both relational and non relational data through its built in data-connectors. Database creation is trouble-free along with transportation of database from one platform to another much more uncomplicated.
The best feature in my point of view in its Enterprise and business intelligence edition builds on Power view, a web service BI toolkit that can be attached to the share point. So one can pull the data from any other source from the network and throw in Power View to view them (it mainly includes reports).
Disadvantage
As 2012 edition has a data-connector to have a connection with other data centers but it is still available for the windows environment. It can only be enforced in that hardware configuration which suits windows environment.

Simple to use and in demand among our customers
Pros and Cons
  • "SQL Server is widely used and it's simple. You cannot do without Microsoft if you want to manage IT for a business customer."

What is our primary use case?

We manage backups for our customers, so we are not developers and we don't use SQL to provide a service. We are a managed service provider focused more on IT support and SQL configuration. So we don't use SQL as a product by ourselves. Instead, we provide instructions for how to back up SQL and do maintenance on it for our customers who need a SQL server for their CRM and ERP products. Their products need to have a SQL server to use in order to use their services. So we handle the maintenance for our customers.

    What is most valuable?

Microsoft has a very broad landscape of products that they provide—almost everything that you need. SQL Server is widely used and it's simple. You cannot do without Microsoft if you want to manage IT for a business customer. And even if you don't like Microsoft, you should know how to use it because just about every customer uses Microsoft, so you have to use it. So it doesn't matter if I like it. It's everywhere, so you have to know how to use it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Microsoft SQL Server for 25 years now.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We are a reseller of Microsoft. We also signed the SPLA agreement, which stands for Services Provider License Agreement. So we are able to use Microsoft products in our data center in order to provide cloud services to our customers.

What other advice do I have?

I rate SQL Server nine out of 10.

Very stable, easy to use, and easy to move data across versions, but needs better indexing, performance, scalability, and JSON support
    Pros and Cons
    • "It is easy to use and very stable."
    • "Its support for JSON should be improved. It does support JSON, but the support is not good enough currently. They should also improve the way indexes work. Its performance can also be improved because sometimes it becomes very slow for certain table designs. It cannot have more than a certain amount of data. As compared to other databases, its capability to handle large volumes of data is not very good."

What is our primary use case?

We are a product-based company, and we use it as part of our product. It is deployed in a public cloud and on-premises.

How has it helped my organization?

We use it as part of our product, so it is helpful for us. It is easy to move data across versions, and it holds lots of our internal data for operations.

    What is most valuable?

It is easy to use and very stable.

    What needs improvement?

Its support for JSON should be improved. It does support JSON, but the support is not good enough currently.

They should also improve the way indexes work. Its performance can also be improved because sometimes it becomes very slow for certain table designs.

It cannot have more than a certain amount of data. As compared to other databases, its capability to handle large volumes of data is not very good.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It has been very stable. We had a very good experience with it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scaling is a challenge because you cannot scale horizontally. We've run into a couple of scenarios where we were not able to scale it easily.

How are customer service and technical support?

Their support is quite satisfactory. They have not been perfect every time, but they have mostly been quite good. They're prompt, but they weren't able to resolve some of the issues.

    How was the initial setup?

    It is easy to install.

    What about the implementation team?

Our IT team handles the installation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    It is expensive.

What other advice do I have?

You should know its limitations. It cannot have more than a certain amount of data.

I would rate SQL Server a seven out of ten.

A user-friendly relational database management system
    Pros and Cons
    • "It's more user-friendly than most databases."
    • "The performance could be better."

What is our primary use case?

Our server projects are mostly related to SQL Server, and we're using it. All our healthcare projects are using the SQL Server, and we're able to load millions of data without any issues.

    What is most valuable?

It's more user-friendly than most databases. If we don't have to use the command mode, it's very easy.

    What needs improvement?

The performance could be better. When we pump in millions of records, we start struggling, and that's why we want improvement in those areas.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SQL Server for more than ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In the past, it wasn't stable compared to other products like Oracle Db2, but it has improved, and now it's stable.

    How was the initial setup?

The installation is easy, and performance-wise it's okay now.

    What about the implementation team?

SQL Server installation is easy, and we did it by ourselves.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this product to new users.

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Microsoft SQL Server an eight.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Yes, I encountered issues only when using the Express editions during the development. SQL Server, generally speaking, is stable also in high transaction environments.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Yes, I encountered issues in the CPU intensive application, like web crawlers. It was difficult to reach the desired scalability through the fine tuning options available.

How are customer service and technical support?

The support is good. The knowledge base is very good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with Sybase SQL Anywhere .

I switched mainly because the SQL Server is widely deployed and known, for better XML support, and for better integration with .NET framework and its related technologies.

    How was the initial setup?

It was straightforward for most of the installation, thanks to the wizards.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not a direct purchaser, so I don’t know.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

SAP/Sybase SQL Anywhere for the small footprint which makes it suitable for embedded solutions.

SAP/Sybase SQL Anywhere for the built-in synchronization technologies available.

What other advice do I have?

Improve the built-in database replication technologies.

The solution is very common. It's easy to use.

The product offers a lot of support. Technical support has been great.

It's a reliable solution currently in this space.

The solution doesn't take a long time to set up. It's pretty straightforward.

    What needs improvement?

The solution is expensive. The licensing costs are high.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been dealing with the solution for 20 years or so. It's been two decades. I've used it for a while.

    How was the initial setup?

We have a special database team that is running. Except for the initial installation of the hardware, they are doing everything as it's an in-house solution.

It took a day or two to implement. It might have even taken less time.

    What about the implementation team?

We have a team that can manage the implementation process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing is a bit expensive. We'd like them to be more flexible in terms of costs.

We pay a yearly licensing fee.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other solutions before implementing this solution.

What other advice do I have?

I'm using either the 2018 or 2019 version of the solution. I don' know the exact number off-hand.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. It's a very good solution and I've been pretty happy with its capabilities.

I would recommend the solution to other users.
