We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature of Silver Peak VX is the overall performance.""The most valuable features of Silver Peak VX is the flexibility, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the long-distance performance of the application storage is easy and effective.""The file and data reduction capabilities are very good. Without it, we have a great deal of network congestion.""The most valuable feature of Silver Peak Unity EdgeConnect is the boost.""The most valuable feature is the support for asymmetric lines.""At the moment, for us, it is a very good solution because it has all the features we need and it is not so expensive.""First and foremost, it enables the customer to deploy high availability connections. This kind of solution enables them to deploy these HA connections for policies mostly automatically. It's a more automated approach than with other vendors.""We had several clients that were paying $7,500 a month for an MPLS line for one single 10 megabit circuit and we were able to take that from $7,500 a month down to $500 a month for two 10 megabits circuits that added redundancy where before they did not have redundancy and it gave them a much better throughput."

"The product's initial setup phase is straightforward.""From the main controller, we can administer the customer's devices, QoS, network, and traffic. We can monitor it and we can change and create policies as well as upgrade the software. We can totally control a customer's network from one site, the Prisma SD-WAN portal.""It is flexible to use the internet connection via local breakouts without going to data centers.""If the MPLS goes down, there is a really smooth transition for a branch site to take traffic over the Internet. It will advertise the routes of that site in a jiffy.""I like the link monitoring and analytics. These are the features that set Prisma apart from other products. Prisma works well with large, complex networks. One of my clients is a top bank in the United States, and Prisma has performed well for that customer.""The gateway is available on the cloud which allows you access from anywhere and still connects to your home gateway.""Prisma supports all of the applications we're currently using.""When it comes to supporting large, complex, network architectures, it's a very simple architecture. The main component is the fabric. It's very easy to troubleshoot if there is an issue happening in the underlying network."

Cons
"There are some functional limitations that could improve.""If compared with Cisco, then Aruba's pricing is very aggressive.""In future releases, I would like to see security features, so Aruba might need some firewalls, like other vendors.""The support, which is the direct support from Aruba, has shortcomings and needs to be improved.""Their WAN optimization in terms of wireless connectivity doesn't have a very good cellular capability.""Reporting is something that they can improve on.""This solution is suitable for small to medium-sized companies. If we have large-sized companies it is better to use Cisco or Palo Alto.""The security can be improved, with the firewall for example, because they supply a basic one but not a UTM."

"We are incorporating their zone-based firewalls. Prisma SD-WAN has limited documentation on how it manipulates traffic, e.g., how it is interacting with TCP and UDP. We recently had some traffic that was black holing. We literally had to do packet captures to see that the new zone-based firewall, which runs on top of Prisma SD-WAN, was causing issues.""Prisma SD-WAN should provide more flexibility and scalability on the hardware.""Prisma could be a little cheaper.""Prisma SD-WAN's technical support should be improved.""I'd like to see them move more towards CASB.""Event correlation and analysis capabilities do not help minimize the number of alarms from a single event. That is the problem. We are getting a lot of incidents, and there is some issue with the correlation. That is still a drawback.""There are two parallel things that we want Palo Alto to work on. First, customers want a unified appliance that does the work of all firewalls in addition to SD-WAN. Second, the cloud presence should be completely automated. If I purchase the SASE architecture, I shouldn't worry about deployments in Prisma Access or on Prisma SD-WAN. It should be deployed in one go.""I would also like to see improvement in the product training for customers. Palo Alto has not initiated very much training but they have to do so because this is a new product. If you have experience in a legacy environment, and you are moving to Prisma SD-WAN, you don't have a training framework. That is one of the disadvantages."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "You have to negotiate when it comes to pricing and licensing."
  • "You typically will license the hardware and you license the software to access the hardware capabilities. The price will range anywhere from a hundred to $300 a month. There are no additional costs."
  • "The licensing fees depend on the bandwidth. As an example of what we charge our customers, for 100MB without Boost, the price is approximately $2,000. That includes the licensing and the unit."
  • "The pricing for this product is good."
  • "The license could improve for Silver Peak VX."
  • "The price of Silver Peak VX is expensive compared to competitors. There are licenses, renewals, and support that need to be paid."
  • "There is an annual license required to use Silver Peak Unity EdgeConnect."
  • "The license for Silver Peak Unity EdgeConnect is paid annually."

  • "This solution stood out because it cost considerably less than the other SD-WAN solutions out there from Cisco."
  • "If you're already invested in a Palo Alto product, it would be logical to use this solution. If not, there might be some other solutions that are more viable in terms of pricing."
  • "On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
