We performed a comparison between AWS CloudFormation and Red Hat Satellite based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Configuration Management solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."...Intune itself integrates with that entire Microsoft ecosystem. As an individual product itself, it's okay. It holds up. But when you start saying "I've bought this as part of a wider solution, as a company we are going Microsoft throughout," then it makes more sense to have Microsoft Intune... so you have that single dashboard."
"I like that we can implement conditional access."
"By using Microsoft Intune we can control which websites the users can go to and it provides a secure environment for our employees using their laptops that are having access from home. We have installed Intune to control the user's environment minimizing the chances of any hacking."
"The dashboards, the security, and the customization capabilities work very well for us."
"Intune device restriction policies enable me to enforce limitations on the device, like blocking the mobile camera or restricting the employees from using and inserting USB devices, including thumb drives and flash drives."
"The ability to block and erase remote devices is valuable to us, especially when those devices are lost."
"We have not experienced any bugs or glitches with this solution."
"The biggest thing for us is enforcing logins only from devices that are managed by Intune."
"What I found most valuable in AWS CloudFormation is its configurability. The solution is easy to configure. I also like its change management configuration because that's also good."
"Its ability to treat infrastructure's code is valuable. It makes things automatable and reproducible."
"The solution has helped with automation. I don't have to worry about provisioning machines and ensuring everything is set up. AWS CloudFormation takes care of the entire infrastructure for me."
"The most valuable features of AWS CloudFormation are all the resources documentation is located in one location, simple resource reverting, and ease of use of the full package for new users."
"The nested stacks would be one of the more valuable features."
"The CloudFormation template can be reused to create multiple stacks, reducing duplications and improving our infrastructure."
"The most valuable feature of AWS CloudFormation is the simple tracking of infrastructure."
"The integration of the solution is very good."
"The compliance auditing helped me a lot."
"Technical support has been good."
"Previously, we were using one server to update from a different repository over the HTTP. We had to manually manage the updates on the repository server. Satellite made the process easier."
"The product allows us to handle patching for multiple servers at a time manually."
"The product helps me to manage a large number of servers from one console."
"The product is convenient to use."
"We've been getting reasonable support from Red Hat."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is vulnerability management."
"More integration with monitoring tools is needed."
"There should be more support for macOS. Even though macOS is supported by Intune and Microsoft is working very hard to get more features into Intune to manage macOS, that's one thing they can give a lot more attention to."
"The difficulty of the the roll out is surprisingly difficult considering this product is supposed to be an integrated part of the 365 suite."
"I would like to see easier pushdowns. Currently, we have to package our own software and then push it. Intune can make that way easier and integrate applications, such as Zoom and Adobe Acrobat, that are used by a lot of enterprise or corporate organizations."
"It would be great if Intune offered better data protection controls for BYOD Windows PCs."
"Areas for improvement in Intune include expanding support beyond Samsung devices to accommodate other Android manufacturers like Redmi and Motorola."
"Onboarding of endpoint devices is not straightforward. The onboarding process was a little heavier than I thought it would be. That's the key improvement area. Obviously, the more control you have over the devices, the better it is."
"The add-ons must be integrated into the solution."
"It would help all users if AWS improved the auto-generation of the CloudFormation file."
"The conditions that can be added in AWS CloudFormation are not as powerful as any programming language."
"The solution must enable more hands-on designing of the templates."
"If Amazon could extend CloudFormation to other cloud platforms, that would be good. Currently, it is only limited to AWS."
"Provisioning a large environment or a large number of services takes a bit more time than with Terraform."
"CloudFormation is not particularly good at handling cross-account dynamic references. If you try to refer to an object that CloudFormation has created in a separate AWS account, it tends to fall apart. That's because it is a byproduct of the multi-tenant configuration. This is the most glaring shortcoming in my perspective because you can't dynamically reference objects in other accounts that CloudFormation has created, but it is not a shortcoming that you can't overcome. This is the only pain point that I've come across that didn't have a workaround natively. Sometimes the confirmation is slow, and it could be faster. The downside to CloudFormation when you're fully embracing it is that the AWS services do not get released immediately fully CloudFormation enabled. If you need to use the latest AWS service that just got announced or reinvented, you're not going to be able to continue with CloudFormation for the first X number of months. This is because they develop the products separately, and then they hand it to the CloudFormation team, which later on develops a CloudFormation integration. So, if you need to be on the newest thing AWS has, CloudFormation is often going to be a constraint that prevents you from doing that."
"For a beginner, it's kind of difficult to set up. So, the user does need some knowledge in order to do it."
"Creating the inline policies is not great."
"It is difficult to update and maintain."
"The documentation could be better."
"The product's automation capabilities need enhancement."
"The dashboard of Satellite is not encouraging. It does not adequately showcase all the functionality it offers."
"Automation can always be improved and refined to continue to make it better."
"There could be a feature to simplify the process without the requirement of any patch manager subscription."
"Red Hat Satellite has a short life cycle and we constantly need to update."
"It wasn't easy in the beginning, and some effort was required to work it out. I already had the product documentation, but it was not well organized. It wasn't easy to follow. There were a lot of documents here and there."
