Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"A robust, verifiable backup with a restore solution, which decreases our backup and has a restore window.""Within the system, we have rule-based access control, single sign-on, multifactor authentication, and basic identity and access management features.""The ability to essentially instantly recover a VM and have it run on the Cohesity Platform while all those bits are technically being recovered in the background is useful to us.""We are looking forward to the next release, so we can take advantage of the AHV backup for our Nutanix environment.""Instead of four different solutions for protecting VMs, physical servers, SQL, and NAS, we now have one solution with Cohesity that is lightning fast and has amazing features.""We like that we can use production data to run intensive reports that would otherwise bog down the production server.""Cohesity has simplified backups and has cut our costs tremendously.""We are very satisfied with the product as a whole—all the backup functions, the data protection functions. We are very satisfied with those, and the product is very simple to use."

"Large-scale recoveries are very straightforward.""The solution's stability is high because it is derived from Spectrum Protect.""The support from IBM is very good.""With this product, we now have a reliable backup solution.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the integration with Oracle.""The most valuable feature of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is its ease of use. Additionally, it does backups of all of the things we need, such as OS, files, and databases.""The solution is scalable and can be fitted for any customer.""The feature I find most valuable is the offload to Spectrum Protect for long-term retention. I think the deduplication and replication are quite nice on Plus."

Cons
"The tool could benefit from further improvements in AI features, particularly in areas such as a generative AI chat interface. This feature could help answer queries about the data being protected. One feature that would greatly improve our experience with the product is the ability to identify data redundancies through a central console. This feature would help us reduce storage costs by managing redundant data.""I would like to see Cohesity have the ability to do a file level restore from a Windows server, which is storing data on dynamic disk.""I would like to see the management of multiple nodes inside a tenant. If you want to manage a Cohesity environment, you either go on a per-node base, and you can hop from one node to the other, or you need to implement their SaaS capability but it always needs an internet connection. We would really like to have some kind of local management entity so that we can see all the Cohesity nodes in a customer environment and manage those nodes centrally. That's something that we would really like, and they are really working on it.""The one area where we would like to see additional improvements is with reporting. There are very granular reports from each grid. There are also some built-in reports within Helios (SAS Management Console) that offers basic reporting. However, for complex, large-enterprise environments, a more robust reporting engine that supports detailed audit reporting and enhanced ad hoc reports would be welcome.""The platform has certain limitations, mostly stemming from the restrictions imposed by the VMware API and some other factors. One area where there is room for improvement is the tracking of replicated copies, especially in the context of remote archive duplication.""Since it is an evolving product, there are lot of frequent releases which require upgrades to be done every other weekend.""Features I would like to see include a more visible data lifecycle monitoring tab, and an easier to read backup status dashboard.""Reporting is one area that isn't as robust as it could be."

More Cohesity DataProtect Cons →

"The backup support for IBM Power Virtualization needs to be added.""The tool needs to increase the number of threats.""The user experience is very bad and the interface needs to be improved.""You end up needing to do a lot of troubleshooting to get things to work effectively.""IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve the IBM Spectrum Protect environment. It can be difficult to administer. The initial configuration can be difficult for entry-level teams or deployment teams, and it might be difficult to integrate. There's just too much content involved in the solution. The documentation is way too large.""Instead of using the command prompt for troubleshooting and administering the backup, there should be an easy-to-use graphical user interface.""The one issue we are facing is related to file restores.""The administration needs to be improved and made simpler to use."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
  • "If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
  • "The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day."
  • "Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
  • "We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
  • "With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."

  • "If you need to extend it, it can be extended acting like a normal Spectrum Protect with a long archive."
  • "The price offering from IBM is coming down because it is based on number of VM machines. So, IBM is coming to the market to show the added value of the product."
  • "The licensing model of Spectrum Protect Plus is more efficient and cheaper compared to the original."
  • "In addition to the standard licensing fees, we paid for implementation and training."
  • "Unlike some other solutions, such as Veritas NetBackup where you have to pay for different licenses to use different features, there is a single license that allows you to use all of the features."
  • "Depends on the licensing options that you choose."
  • "The price is lower than that of some competing products."
  • "Clients prefer to buy a perpetual license, but the majority opt for a yearly subscription."
