Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"What our customers like the most is that this device is so rugged. It has very good performance and throughput. Its console is very easy to use and has many features, which makes it different from its competitors. Cloud IQ has all the features built into the console, whereas other solutions require you to integrate multiple solutions with their consoles. You don't need to add anything extra with Cloud IQ. With this single solution, you can do almost everything.""Integrated Firewall in every AP (with DPI inspection) is a killer feature and it is included already in the price of licence (with others, this feature is an add-on licence).""The few times we have needed help, Aerohive has been there for us and I am confident that If I need them they will be there again.""This solution's most valuable feature is its short deployment time.""It's extremely easy to deploy. Even our access points are behind the net, not using real, public IP. We can easily add to the cloud. For deployment, we just need to let the access point take the DSCP from IP and then, even if it's not a requirement, we can see the serial number from the access points and add the serial number to the cloud directly.""The cloud-based management interface allows us to fully manage all our wireless radios, ensuring consistency and ease of access.""App and firewall security at the AP.""The HiveManager integration with the VPN Gateway is awesome."

"The most valuable feature of Ubiquiti WLAN is its stability.""would rate the scalability a nine out of ten. It is very scalable.""The tool's deployment is very easy. The deployment of 15 access points can take a day.""The initial setup is easy.""The solution is not complex to deploy.""Ubiquiti WLAN has good availability, and it is much cheaper.""The solution is very easy to install.""Ubiquiti WLAN has good performance."

Cons
"Certain features only exist or work in certain versions.""Need port aggregation on the 2384 switches to take full advantage of ac on the APs. I understand that is on their product road map.""We have had some mediocre to poor experiences with tech support: Conflicting information, condescending attitudes, and reluctance to work to resolve an issue.""The licensing model could be improved.""For me, the only issue is the potential delay in the tool statistics updating in real time after making changes.""I know a school district, a big school district of mine, ripped out Extreme due to inefficiencies. It was the guest network that can be a struggle. They tried to differentiate between their primary network, and then offer a secondary.""We'd like to have a cloud dashboard from which we can see all devices.""The solution's performance needs to be enhanced because of a very high delay."

More ExtremeCloud IQ Cons →

"The room for improvement is in the controller levels.""When I started to upgrade, the controller for Unbuntu was really struggling to start up, however, that has since been solved.""When they release new products, you should know if there backward compatibility, or do you have to replace the entire forklift, It is useful to understand their strategy and where they are headed.""The downside is the interface changes, where they are constantly doing firmware updates.""Ubiquiti WLAN only supports 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio and would be improved by including support for 5GHz.""The product needs to improve the user interface in the migration from old to new versions.""Cloud management is one feature that should be included in the next release. This tool is best suited for small environments, not large and complex ones.""Ubiquiti WLAN needs to expand the models with external antennas. It needs to improve stability."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Although the pricing is a bit high, I consider Aerohive to be well worth the money."
  • "Buy near the end of Q4 in order to get a deal."
  • "Bring the cost down."
  • "I would advise that you be sure to compare apples with apples. Many customers just look at the price per AP and licences, and compare that against other solutions. But, they do not look at the complete picture such as: TCO - how much the equipment will cost you over, say, seven years? Will the customer need to change complete infrastructure when they want to buy the newest hardware? Does support include a lifetime warranty and RMA?"
  • "For example, if you compare Aruba vs Aerohive, you need to check which licences from Aruba you need to match the functionality of Aerohive (usually you need at least three types of licences and a controller with redundancy). The same goes with Cisco, where you need buy additional licences for central management, firewall, spectral analysis, WIPS, PPSK, etc. Aerohive has a very simple model - one licence for all the functionalities - and you can believe that there are many. One licence makes it easy to maintain, scale, renew and you can plan your costs 10 years in advance."
  • "Start small and grow big. You can choose the basic Aerohive Connect free subscription solution and, later, if needed (in terms of functionality) you can upgrade to Aerohive Select."
  • "There are probably cheaper solutions but we invest for stability and performance for the longer haul."
  • "I did a multi-year license. It was a three-year license. It compares well with others in terms of the price. It is about a hundred dollars per year on a three-year scale."

  • "Ubiquiti has a good price compared to the other ones."
  • "When comparing the price of Ubiquiti WLAN to Aruba the price is reasonable."
