AppDynamics and Prisma Cloud are both popular among users for their valuable features, ease of use, and positive outcomes. While AppDynamics is praised for its detailed analytics and reporting capabilities, Prisma Cloud stands out for its comprehensive security capabilities and automated compliance assessment. Users have noted that the pricing and licensing options for both products are fair and transparent. However, AppDynamics users have highlighted the need for a more intuitive interface and better integration with other systems, while Prisma Cloud users have mentioned the importance of enhancing alerting and reporting functionality.
The summary above is based on 136 interviews we conducted recently with AppDynamics and Prisma Cloud by Palo Alto Networks users. To access the review's full transcripts, download our report.
"The business transaction that stands between multiple applications is proving to be most valuable."
"Provides monitoring more around business processes versus just servers, applications, etc. E.g., with complex systems, where a business process passes across multiple applications, the business needs us to monitor the heath of the process, not just a segment of the application."
"It helped to find quick solutions for specific business transactions."
"AppDynamics' most valuable features are the response time of the business transaction modules, the ability to monitor multiple services, and testing and developing environments."
"After a major incident, root cause analysis is conducted and, most of the time, we understand what caused the incident and how it can be prevented from happening again."
"The release management capabilities are great."
"I think the performance and interface are the most important features."
"I find troubleshooting is quicker because we can drill down into the end points and see which endpoints are getting critical. Visibility-wise, the micro details are easy to find."
"The product is quite good for providing multi-clouds or cross-cloud security from a single-pane -of-glass."
"The most valuable features of Prisma Cloud are its cloud security posture management and cloud workload protection capabilities."
"The solution will streamline and minimize manual efforts."
"It also provides us with a single tool to manage our entire cloud architecture. In fact, we are using a multi-account strategy with our AWS organization. We use Prisma as a single source of truth to identify high- or medium-severity threats inside our organization."
"Integration is very easy. And because it supports security that spans multi- and hybrid-cloud environments, it's very easy to use."
"The runtime mechanism on the solution is very useful. It's got very good network mapping between containers. If you have more than one container, you can create a content data link between them."
"One of the main reasons we like Prisma Cloud so much is that they also provide an API. You can't expect to give someone an account on Prisma Cloud, or on any tool for that matter, and say, "Go find your things and fix them." It doesn't work like that... We pull down the information from the API that Prisma Cloud provides, which is multi-cloud, multi-account—hundreds and hundreds of different types of alerts graded by severity—and then we can clearly identify that these alerts belong to these people, and they're the people who must remediate them."
"The Twistlock vulnerability scanning tool is its most valuable feature. It provides us insight into security vulnerabilities, running inside both on-premise and public cloud-based container platforms. It is filling a gap that we have with traditional vulnerability scanning tools, where we don't have the ability to scan inside containers."
"This solution is expensive."
"They need to improve the consolidation of agents for the agent's installation process."
"AppDynamics should improve its ability to track all the transactions."
"The GUI can be overwhelming at first to a novice Dev or Ops support person, and the possible root causes of an issue do not bubble up to the first screen you see."
"The integration with cloud services is still pending with AppDynamics. We would like the product to be serverless."
"An area that has room for improvement on the CR and ERP would be the addition of monitoring of the internal solution. For example, you can monitor the day-to-day and everything in the transactions with AppDynamics, but there's also a lot going on in the kernel itself that you cannot monitor. The automation needs to improve as well. As it stands, a lot of customization needs to happen before you can use AppDynamics."
"The UI could use a little help."
"The integration ability of AppDynamics with other performance testing tools is an area with shortcomings where improvements are required."
"In terms of improvement, there are some small things like hardening and making sure the Linux resources are deployed well but that's more at an operational level."
"There needs to be a mechanism that allows me to manually configure compliance more easily."
"Support is an area that needs improvement."
"We are encountering issues with the new permissions required for AWS integration with Prisma."
"The dashboard can be created at the user level instead of the cloud account level, which will help save time."
"One definite area for improvement is the auto-remediation or the CWP area. The second one is the RQL language. It is still not very flexible and does not cover a lot of use cases. The RQL language could be dramatically improved to add more options."
"One of the main backlogs in their development is in the area of integration. For example, we have ServiceNow in place for ticket management and Prisma Cloud is supposed to send closure emails for incidents. But from time to time, it fails to do so. We have several other mismatches between Prisma Cloud and ServiceNow."
"The UI could be improved."
