We performed a comparison between CyberArk Privileged Access Manager and VMware Identity Manager based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about CyberArk, Delinea, BeyondTrust and others in Privileged Access Management (PAM)."The central password manager is the most valuable feature because the password is constantly changing. If an outsider threat came in and gained access to one of those passwords, they would not have access for long."
"The password vault and session monitoring are useful."
"I really like the PTA (Privileged Threat Analytics). I find this the best feature."
"Right off the bat, the most valuable feature is the DNA scan. It gives us the ability to scan our environment and find the accounts that we're going to need to take under control."
"The most valuable feature is Special Monitoring."
"We also use CyberArk’s Secrets Manager. Because AWS is the biggest area for us, we have accounts in AWS that are being rotated by CyberArk. We also have a manual process for the most sensitive of our AWS accounts, like root accounts. We've used Secrets Manager on those and that has resulted in a significant risk reduction, as well."
"CyberArk has resulted in a massive increase in our security footprint."
"The most valuable aspects of the solution include password management and Rest API retrieval of vaulted credentials."
"The solution is stable."
"It helps the end users to work on the road without needing to set up all kinds of VPN connections"
"One of the features that I enjoyed most was the integration with Azure AD because I could use VMware Identity Manager to standardize the User Principal Name coming from Active Directory. You have Azure AD Connect to do that. In between, if you have vIDM handling it, you can easily get the synchronization of users into your VM and standardize the User Principal Name. If you require quality assurance for handling it, you can actually count on the vIDM to do so. That was one of the main things I enjoyed about the product."
"Its value is when you use it with a Workspace ONE UEM solution as it is part of the ecosystem for VMware Workspace ONE."
"When we publish the applications, getting the credentials to log in and keep the application up or running is easy."
"Personally, VMware Identity Manager is useful for comparison purposes so that I can provide better solutions to my company's customers."
"The solution was easy to deploy."
"Zero Trust implementation is a great feature."
"I don't know if "failed authentication" is a glitch or if that was an update... However, since we are the CyberArk support within our organization, we need to know that the password is suspended and we won't know that unless we have the ITA log up. So when a user calls and says, "Hey, I'm locked out of CyberArk, I can't get into CyberArk," we have to go through all of these other troubleshooting steps because the first thing we don't think of right now is, "The account is suspended." It doesn't say that anymore."
"We had an issue with the Copy feature... Apparently, in version 10, that Copy feature does not work. You actually have to click Show and then copy the password from within Show and then paste it. We've had a million tickets and we had to figure out a workaround to it."
"It's a big program. To scale excessively, locally, on an on-prem application, takes a lot of servers."
"CyberArk PAM could greatly benefit from an under-the-hood update; integrating machine learning algorithms could provide predictive insights."
"The usual workload is sometimes delayed by the solution."
"The current interface doesn't scale that well, and has some screens still in the old layout."
"If there is an area that has room for improvement, it's probably working with their support and getting people on the phone. That is hard to do with most products in general, but that seems to be the difficult area. The product is fantastic, but sometimes we want somebody on the phone."
"The interface on version 9 looks old."
"The mobile SSO doesn't work as well on Android."
"Many of the features that exist in Active Directory do not exist in Identity Manager, which means that people depend on Active Directory."
"There are a lot of difficulties whenever people have a lot of configurations in it, basically related to security certificate configurations and integration with VMware Horizon."
"I would like to have better support for multi-cloud sessions."
"The license could be better."
"The security features could always use improvement, although there has already been a huge improvement from years ago."
"vIDM could be improved with the multi-tenant capabilities that VMware tends to offer—features like customization branding and the integration of the app catalog based on the branding. Since the integration has been at top-level OGs, you were not able to then do rebranding if you were required to use specific user groups to highlight specific applications. At the time, I was personally opening feature requests for these things. I haven't worked with the latest release, so I don't know if these features were already deployed or not."
"There is a need for better user lifecycle management within VMware Identity Manager, along with better user governance...The scalability of the product needs to improve."
