Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"OneView provides a single console, which is manageable without physical access.""It monitors all our servers, and if there is any problem it straight away sends us an alert. If It's a faulty component, we can see it from there. It sends an alert.""The initial setup is easy.""Provides the strongest support for automation.""Just the ability to provision the servers with storage and network everything within one interface, not having to go into multiple interfaces to provision those pieces.""The OneView Global Dashboard is very user-friendly and it can be used for monitoring the power consumption and temperature of the data center and racks.""We get templates, so it's speed to delivery for us. It's a big difference with the template features.""If you have a lot of devices, like we do, then you have to have one single pane of view, otherwise we lose too much time. So, we needed this type of solution."

"This is a very good solution and it is simple to use, for any company.""I can monitor a phone on a desk to very big servers of any company.""The installation is no problem. I've installed Nagios several times.""The most valuable feature is the monitoring of processes.""The most valuable feature of Nagios XI is customization. We can customize based on our requirements. We can do modifications and implement a lot of scripts. Additionally, it is easy to use.""Since this is an open source technology, if we are capable of writing the plugins in any scripting language, this product allows us to monitor anything we want.""The dashboard allows you to see what's going on in the overall system.""The solution is pretty stable."

Cons
"I would like to see them expand into other cloud platforms, non-HPE platforms.""Sometimes the interface can be a little confusing, sometimes the error messages can be very cryptic, as far as what's actually going on.""We've had a few issues. We just upgraded to the 3.9.0 version. We think that now that we are on that version, hopefully a lot of those things are going to go away for us.""We've had issues, for example, with RAM.""The speed and performance of the solution are areas where the product lacks and needs improvement.""The tool doesn't send automated alerts via email...We should be able to receive notification emails when a server or hardware issue arises, which would be helpful if someone is unavailable in the office.""I have to chop it up into smaller parts, because I have an installation in Europe and it covers the whole world. That is not so good. They need to be more localized, so I am going to chop it up into smaller bits.""Use it, but do not think it is going into the clouds, because it is not. There is room for improvement."

More HPE OneView Cons →

"I would like to see support for notification via SMS.""I would like a much easier GUI so that I can delete events and logs, which will free up a lot of space.""They need more documentation for the plugins.""It is really difficult to integrate Nagios XI with another system to generate logs and alert our management of failures in security infrastructure.""The PNP4Nagios plugin not working easily with XI is an issue for me, because some open source monitoring plugins do not work out of the box. But in the end, you learn to live with it.""The product uses the backend as Perl and could be modified to a more lightweight solution like what's being offered by other vendors.""The product's stability could be even better.""Open-source software is usually not user-friendly."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
