We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Easy to add servers and get them monitored and manageable.""The solution's technical support was great...The initial setup of HPE OneView was easy.""Comprehensive dashboard, ease of use are key features.""The stability is very good. I have never had an issue with it over the three years that I have been using it.""We lose less time managing the machines.""The OneView Global Dashboard is very user-friendly and it can be used for monitoring the power consumption and temperature of the data center and racks.""Administration-wise it's going to be easier. More smooth and more flexible.""We get templates, so it's speed to delivery for us. It's a big difference with the template features."

"The solution provides us response times to issues.""The most valuable feature is the ability to span multiple technologies and multiple vendors.""Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""The real-time monitoring and alerting are its most valuable features.""The remote probes are very useful. They allow us to provide a reference across different areas in the network. In trying to localize issues, that's very useful.""It is a very stable solution. There are no bugs, glitches and we have not experienced any crashing.""Network Discovery is a feature that our customers like a lot.""The product is simple and easy to implement."

Cons
"HPE OneView should be able to cover more device models apart from ProLiant and Synergy.""Integration could be improved. Sometimes OneView doesn't identify physical hardware.""I saw, maybe three years ago or two years ago here, or in Barcelona, at the HPE Discover conference, a feature that you can update Clusterware with VMware. But the feature is still not live in production. Currently, you have to do all the firmware updates and then you have to do the VMware updates. So you have two reboots and it would be better if it was just one.""The solution could add storage, integration services, and end-to-end support for Cisco switches or other competitor products.""I had some minor difficulties with upgrading, but the solution still works fine.""We've had issues, for example, with RAM.""We ran into a couple of issues here and there with the baselines for the firmware and not having enough space on the appliance itself to be able to have more than two baselines.""The speed and performance of the solution are areas where the product lacks and needs improvement."

More HPE OneView Cons →

"Sometimes, it is difficult to drill down further to get information, e.g., if we saw spike in traffic, then we would want to drill down and find out what is causing that spike in traffic.""The desktop app is the one area where it do with some improvement. From a user's perspective, I would like to be able to get more out of the desktop app as opposed to where we are now with it.""The scalability of this solution could improve as well as the automated provisioning of the infrastructure.""Sometimes, our PRTG Network Monitor system crashes and a lot of sensors go down.""PRTG Network Monitor could improve by having descriptions for the tab usages. The dashboards or interface could be easier to understand.""I would like to see them take their graphing tools and convert them into a collector so that we can point telemetry to them""There's always room for improvement. The high availability feature is good, but it's an area that PRTG could marginally improve. For example, in PRTG, both servers have a different IP, but it would make things a lot easier if they were bound by a single IP.""It probably has this already, but if it had a mobile app that would be helpful. For example, on a day like today when I'm out, if I could just fire it up and see green, green, green, green, green or red, that would be good."

  • "HPE could lower the price."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
