We performed a comparison between HPE SimpliVity and Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two HCI solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Being hardware agnostic is a must and definitely scored points for us."
"I have found the graphical user interface to be the most useful thing about Virtual SAN."
"The product gave us a cost-effective way to deploy a highly available server environment."
"The iSCSI protocol is quite simple to configure."
"Integration with virtualization platforms helped us to resolve many issues we were facing while using the physical storage."
"One of the standout features of StarWind.com is its remarkable ability to seamlessly integrate with Dell systems. This integration provides users with an unmatched level of convenience and compatibility, allowing for streamlined operations within a Dell environment. This compatibility factor alone can save significant time and effort for IT professionals, ensuring a smooth integration process and optimized performance."
"StarWind allows us to move virtual machines from one physical host to another, which greatly reduces the downtime required for maintenance."
"This solution enables us to make better cost-effective use of our existing hardware and leverage the current infrastructure at a higher level than we could before."
"The ability to backup our data without requiring additional storage media or software application was a huge gain."
"As a point for optimization on our infrastructure, it works great for us."
"The most valuable feature for us is its integration, as it provides an entire solution in a single box."
"Having one management console to do everything from was a great improvement over dealing with separate hardware for servers, SANs, backups etc."
"SimpliVity works well in a UAT environment.."
"It's much more simple than Nutanix and other hyper-converged solutions, at least from our point of view."
"It has lessened our burden on multiple different products, so they are under one umbrella. This has been economically good."
"SimpliVity's console is useful."
"I like that you can add other types of services."
"The most useful feature is the solution's automation in terms of how we are able to spin up a certain workload in real-time when we are doing R&D."
"Both the scalability and stability of this solution are excellent."
"It is stable and scalable."
"The consolidation of the management in one control point is the most valuable. The whole infrastructure management is consolidated in just one console point. The documentation is also pretty good."
"The size of the hardware is what we need because it is very good for small configurations."
"I had issues locating the documentation that applied to my version of StarWind vSAN."
"I would definitely like to see quite a bit more on the monitoring side of things."
"We don't really have any issues with this product."
"We would like to see the documentation more fully developed."
"When you will cease your contract with StarWind (for support) your product won't be updated and that is a big selling point, especially for us, as we have loads of products from StarWind."
"They recommend RAID10 for HDD, which reduces the usable storage capacity."
"One main thing this product needs to work on is reporting."
"If there was one feature I would like to see it would be a built-in subsystem for managing UPS backups shutdown procedures providing a way to initiate VM shutdown on all host servers, shut down the host servers, then put the fault-tolerant mirroring in standby, and finally shut down the StarWind SANs."
"Upgrading can be complicated."
"Our customers are always looking or a discount on the product."
"Once I am onto the SimpliVity environment, I always have to go with HP because I am somewhat blocked, like Apple. Secondly, if I want to increase only storage, I need to buy an entire computing node for that, an entire HCI node."
"HPE support is still not aware/trained on SimpliVity, and this is beginning to show."
"To install or to update it is more complicated than other solutions."
"SimpliVity has this thing where if a virtual machine is on the wrong node with two nodes, it will be optimized. However, if one of the nodes won't be optimized, then it will complain about that. It will give you a little warning to say the source is not optimized. Please move this to one of the other hosts. They should just add a little thing in SimpliVity to move all the VMs to the right host, because it is a pain to load balance across the three nodes when all these VMs are complaining and you have to move them to one."
"They could have better-specialized support for more countries."
"There are a lot of different components to choose from in the chassis. This could be easier by providing a standard or a base model to create and configure from."
"The main issue is the initial investment. It is an expensive product, and it should be cheaper. It should also be easier to use and manage. The professional service for this solution is quite complex and expensive."
"This product is not so stable. Maybe it is just not mature enough in its development."
"It should be more user-friendly, in my opinion."
"It is not user-friendly, and it is very difficult to operate. You have to have a deep understanding of the technical details of the infrastructure to implement it. When you compare it with VMware, it is totally different because the graphical user interface is not that easy to understand. It is not intuitive. To use it, you have to read a lot of documentation and even understand what is going on behind the solution. It is not for someone who has a little bit of knowledge. Currently, it is too complex. I need something that is easy to implement. It should have a basic configuration as well as a complex configuration."
"The cloud deployment could be improved."
"The licensing policy needs to be improved. They have a licensing policy based on the number of CPU sockets. Nowadays what has happened is that the license they are trying to move is based on the number of CPU cores. With the advancement in technology there are now more cores in a single CPU. It's been very challenging in terms of managing the license around everything. Today we have a processor with 24 and 32 cores on the same physical CPU."
