We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution's stability is high because it is derived from Spectrum Protect.""We used to use the solution with tapes a few years ago. We've switched to discs, and it has gotten much faster.""The most valuable feature of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus is the deduplication functionality. The clients moved to this solution originally because of this feature.""With this product, we now have a reliable backup solution.""A full-featured data protection solution that is reliable and stable.""Large-scale recoveries are very straightforward.""The feature I find most valuable is the offload to Spectrum Protect for long-term retention. I think the deduplication and replication are quite nice on Plus.""The most valuable features are the API features because it allows you to integrate with your Microsoft SQL, your Oracle, and your IBM Db2."

"Being able to add everything in as resource groups is a valuable feature... Having all the SQL servers put into specific buckets, based on their year of release - 2008, 2012, 2014 - allows us to get almost immediate backups that are easily seen and reported on.""The simplicity of backup and restore directly with VMware is an advantage and the time to backup and restore is reduced.""The backup features are the most valuable because they allow the DBAs to replace SnapManager for Oracle (SMO), which is going away, and to do cloning as well. We can also clone to different servers and have the actual backup clone mounted on different servers. And we can split easily too.""It has very fast backup and can handle a huge amount of data. It also enables really fast recovery.""The way that it interconnects with VMware is really handy, because you can go right into your vSphere client, where you spend a lot of the day anyway, right-click on one of the VMs where you have backups running for however long, and you can restore either some files or restore the entire thing.""The most valuable feature is the RBAC, the Role-Based Access Control. In our managed service, we can have different layers of security.""I like the instant backups and recovery feature that SnapCenter provides within NetApp storage systems.""It has greatly improved our DR activity."

Cons
"I think the graphical reports are a shortcoming of the tool since it fails to provide my company with what we want in terms of reporting. Due to the product's inability to take care of its reporting part, we have to use third-party software.""The tool needs to increase the number of threats.""Instead of using the command prompt for troubleshooting and administering the backup, there should be an easy-to-use graphical user interface.""Not particularly user friendly.""The Gui interface and usability are not so friendly and easy.""The administration needs to be improved and made simpler to use.""Rooms for improvement in IBM Spectrum Protect Plus are installation and configuration because those were difficult. They should try their best to improve those areas. In the next release of the product, better implementation and administration are what we're expecting.""IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve security."

More IBM Spectrum Protect Plus Cons →

"Since the solution's initial setup is complex, it should make training documents available in the public space.""We have experience some difficulties with our current support. We are engaging in engineering level support because some of our problems are more technical.""The product lags in terms of availability.""The replication feature needs improvement in future releases.""What I did witness lately are issues with some Microsoft KBs, the updates. But it happened only once, and not on a major platform, it was on a small one.""I have an issue with SnapCenter because sometimes a VM cannot be backed up... The way SnapCenter works is that it makes a backup of all the VMs and then it removes all the old backups. If one VM cannot be backed up for some reason, it has already created a new backup for all the VMs but it cannot remove the old backups. It ends up creating so many backups in VMware and it will cause a performance problem if the condition is not fixed.""The compatibility with other manufacturers, like Oracle and Hyper-V, could be improved. I would like to see it be more compatible with other software.""There is one area that needs improvement and that's in the alerting. When you set up your SMTP alerts, it only has - and I don't understand why - the ability to send an anonymous SMTP. It doesn't do basic authentication, which frustrated me for a while until I figured out that I'm not missing something. It's just not there."
