We performed a comparison between Meraki MX and Untangle NG Firewall based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Unified Threat Management (UTM) solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The features that I have found most valuable are that it is good to use, and most importantly, the pricing. The customer especially likes the discount when they trade up or something like that."
"Overall security features and performance routing is good."
"It's a user-friendly firewall. Most of the tasks are very simple. It's simple to configure and troubleshoot this firewall."
"FortiGate firewalls are easy to manage through a user-friendly web interface. They also have advanced features like DDoS and DLP. However, I wouldn't recommend enabling all of these features on one device because it can cause performance issues."
"The ease of setting the solution up is a valuable aspect for us."
"The IPS is good. It protect my network from attackers."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a stable solution."
"The most useful functionality of Fortinet FortiGate is the user interface, multiple engines, and their cloud with the latest integrations. Additionally, the Security Fabric tool is very good."
"The solution is good for load balancing."
"Since it has an integrated dashboard for all the products, customers can get complete network analytics regarding what the user is doing, monitoring, and observing."
"It has very good features; it's easy to use, configure, set up, and deploy."
"The internet traffic shaping has been very valuable."
"It is a robust SD-WAN solution."
"The simplicity of configuration is the most valuable feature of the solution."
"You can use your web browser to do the configuration which is easier than Cisco CLI transcripts."
"I think cloud management is key. The cloud management and support are the two things that make the product great."
"The most valuable features are IPS, MAPI, NAT, and VPN."
"It is very easy to deploy and monitor. "
"Application Control and filtering features are valuable."
"The product is easy to implement."
"Easy to set up and easy to integrate."
"What I like about this product, which is the reason that we continue to use it, is that you can install the software version on your own hardware. In case there is a problem with the hardware, we can just install the firewall in another machine and restore the configuration."
"It is not attached to an appliance, meaning if you get a good PC/server, then you can already run a firewall."
"NG Firewalls allow us to permit or deny applications we don't want to run. We also use content filtering, SSL inspection, and all the other things we run on the firewall to keep our clients protected and ensure they're not going where they shouldn't. It's a great firewall that works as intended."
"There is a lot of improvement needed with SSL-VPN."
"It is quite new for us, and we need to go more in-depth into the monitoring tools. It provides different features that we need to do what we want. So far, it is okay for us. In terms of improvement, in the future, they can provide a faster implementation of features. Some of the features are first available in other solutions. Fortinet sometimes takes a little bit longer than other solutions, such as Check Point, to implement new features."
"The command line is complicated, and the interface could be better."
"I would like to see improvements in the product's application rules."
"Technical support could be better. You don't always get the level of help you need right away."
"We were not able to build a full-mesh VPN; however, I am not sure if this was the fault of Fortinet FortiGate."
"There are just some services that aren't available. For example, the Ethernet or point-to-point protocols. They could add these services to their product offering - especially services for ISPs."
"The graphical user interface of Fortinet's FortiGate product does not function well with text-based interfaces."
"When it comes to cost, that's a pain point."
"The client-side VPN is weak. The product could be improved with deployment templates."
"Expensive licensing and firewall stops immediately working if the license is not renewed at expiration date."
"The problem is that the two licenses do not currently integrate. We have to create separate companies and do an interconnection."
"It would be nice to get detailed logging information without third-party software."
"They're very complacent and I find the rule set to be a little arcane."
"We do not have account managers in our region for the solution. Some governments don't use the product since it is attached to the internet."
"The security is not as strong as it could be"
"The ability to setup a DDNS for each WAN independently would be a very handy feature."
"On their low-end appliance, they could have more memory and the largest storage space. The low-end appliance comes with a too-small hard drive, and it could use a little extra room. It only comes with about 4 gigs or 8 gigs of memory, and the hardware space is only 40 gigs, which is really small."
"The product must improve its reporting features."
"There is room for improvement in the logs. Like with Cisco, I can do almost everything and know almost anything about what's running. Untangle works very much out of the box. It's very user-friendly, but it's not engineer-friendly. So, it's good for a home user. For something fairly easy, but at the same time, with good technology to have at home, because at home, I'm not a millionaire or anything like that. So it's not like I'm worried to get hacked. I didn't want something like a Cisco firewall; it would be a bit overkill to have at home. So that's why I went for Untangle. But it lacks a few features. It's just a tick-box kind of thing. So they have apps and turn on and off the apps. The VPN's configuration is all very ticked. They have a few custom configurations, but it's not that much."
"The pricing should be reduced because it is expensive."
"It does have multi-factor authentication in some areas, but I would love to see a more widely implemented version of that on the devices themselves."
"It would be much easier if there was a mobile app."
"The management console for partners is a bit tricky (buggy)."
