Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"You can use it to monitor third parties and ensure they are not under threat attacks. It is beneficial in the GRC model.""The product’s most valuable feature is the ability to provide threat detection and protection simultaneously.""The solution is well integrated with other Microsoft security products.""The most valuable aspects are its integration capabilities with other Microsoft products like Intune, Office 365, and Azure cloud applications.""Its user-friendliness is its most valuable aspect.""The product is useful when the end user downloads malware files.""The technical support services are excellent.""The global review and remediation of malicious code is probably the most valuable feature."

"I don't know if I've gotten much value out of Purview personally, but our security team loves it. Our biggest concern is leakage or theft of our data because we have a lot of PII and stuff that has not been released. We like the insights Purview provides and the way the solution can track and manage things. I'd say that was probably their favorite piece of it so far. From everything the security team has told me, the policy management and DLP features are working spectacularly.""Microsoft Purview is scalable.""It's certainly easy to work with all Microsoft data sources like SQL Server, Synapse, and data lakes, but it also has great functionality working with Oracle. And of particular interest to us is the ability to pull data from Excel, CVS files, and other types of flat files.""The data classification part of the solution is excellent, especially as it gives us an insight into our sensitive data within Microsoft 365.""My favorite features are eDiscovery and insider risk management, because these are the major threats to an organization that can't be easily traced.""Instead of having to manually write down which tables and columns exist and then describe them, you can do that process in one go, by simply connecting to a source. That's a huge time-saver and a great benefit of Purview.""Purview helps mitigate risk and allows us to govern the information being shared among apps and devices.""I use the tool in projects as a medium to provide information as reports to the stakeholders."

Cons
"The tool's onboarding of users that use on-premise or hybrid environments needs to be improved.""I would like for there to be extra confirmation that there aren't viruses. Even if the virus detection software is always running there could be hidden applications that are using the computer.""Technical support could be a bit better.""The price could be improved.""One area where Microsoft Defender could be improved is in its support for non-Microsoft products, particularly for systems running Linux or other open-source platforms across ecosystems.""Having up-to-date documentation and real-time reflections in all portals would be beneficial to keep users informed about any changes. Additionally, the frequent changes in Microsoft's UI and the movement of features between different products in the set pose difficulties.""Microsoft itself is a major target for attacks and threats due to its size and popularity. That could be considered Microsoft's Achilles heel.""It takes time for the support team to understand the issue, and they then respond with a delay at times, which causes a lot of trouble."

More Microsoft Defender Threat Intelligence Cons →

"Privacy features should be integrated into the core product rather than offered as optional add-ons, as privacy is not a luxury but a fundamental requirement.""The API needs some improvement when connecting to non-Microsoft API sources. This is a limiting factor.""Some of the menu headings may not be easy to understand for some people.""There are negatives to the compliance aspect of Purview in that you get a lot of false positives with some of the native scanning and rules in the platform. A lot of them need tweaking to get a more realistic handle on what data there is.""he one thing it doesn't do is data quality.""I have some concerns about the separation of roles in Purview from the Microsoft tenant, as well as how they interact with the security portal and endpoint manager.""Data quality has been a highly requested feature among customers.""It supports only a limited number of tools and technologies that pertain to Microsoft products. If you want to leverage other solutions such as Workday or Oracle Fusion, features will be coming up, but as of now, it is for the Microsoft suite."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Considering Microsoft is constantly changing licensing, I would give it a seven out of ten. It can be difficult to get your head around it, especially for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)."
  • "They offer two license plans: Microsoft Defender for endpoints and Microsoft Defender for businesses."
  • "The product’s pricing is worth it."
  • "The solution can be licensed, but most users would already have it in their Office 365 license."
  • "It is an expensive product."
  • "The tool is expensive as a stand-alone solution. However, it is not cheap when you purchase it as a bundle."
  • "I rate the product's price a six or seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is expensive, and ten is cheap."
  • "I use the product's default version, which is a free one and not the licensed version."
  • More Microsoft Defender Threat Intelligence Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing is moderate. It's not too expensive, but it's not the most competitive."
  • "Microsoft Purview is the best option I have encountered when it comes to price. Maybe some of my information is outdated, but Microsoft offered it so that you could use it almost without paying."
  • "There is some competition out there, but the other solutions are quite expensive. They are enterprise tools that are a bit more mature but the license costs $100,000 for some of them. Purview is pay-per-use and a lot of companies are interested in that."
  • "Aside from the complexity of the pricing model, the price itself is realistic. Features like AI components and automatic classification require additional licenses. Still, anyone can start using Purview with a basic E3 license if they're using Microsoft 365 and grow with additional licenses as needed. Overall, we're satisfied with the price."
  • "Its pricing is good in terms of the features that they are providing, but there are many competitors in the market who can easily provide you with similar services at a lesser cost."
  • "The categorization within the licensing could be improved. There are a lot of solutions within Microsoft Purview. If the licensing could be a bit clearer and the solutions could be better categorized according to function and across multiple environments, that would be excellent. The licensing is very confusing."
  • "Price-wise, I think it's very generous and accessible to not just enterprises but small to medium-sized companies as well. I think it's very fair in terms of how they break apart the storage and the actual computing, and that makes it very accessible. So, that is a very big plus for Purview."
  • "Some people find the tier licensing system complicated, but it offers a lot of value for money if we use the features."
