We performed a comparison between Microsoft DPM and Rubrik based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Backup and Recovery solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."Its capability to give a BMR for all the workstations that I want to connect to."
"I could back up all the stuff we had, even the VMs we have for Hyper V."
"This solution helps us to manage all of the operations across servers and different workstations."
"The most valuable feature is that DPM has an index so individual files can be searched."
"The most important feature is that it's easy to use."
"I like the core backup feature. I also like the file server backup feature. I find Microsoft DPM interesting because it has fantastic integration with Microsoft products. For example, in Exchange and SharePoint, DPM is excellent when it comes to backing up data. It also does a decent job with open-source products."
"The initial setup is quite straightforward."
"It has an application backup, a file backup, a system backup and a hypervisor."
"Cut backup remediation to nearly nothing."
"The solution’s ransomware recovery, from a security perspective, is one of the biggest features of the product. We don't have to worry about the operational complexity of air-gapped backups and can rely more on the immutability approach. It is a highly valued feature in this solution."
"Mounting recent backups to create new servers rather than cloning servers in VMware drastically cut down required time."
"Adaptative backup and SLAs simply allow you to tell a machine to backup without taking care of the backup window."
"Disk mount that lets a restore happen immediately, no need to re-hydrate."
"Rubrik is an easy and automatic solution that needs no manual intervention."
"Replaces legacy tapes and disk backups which are unreliable, expensive and space consuming."
"A Google-like file search, system scaling, and a frequent development cycle are some positives that this solution offers."
"It needs portability for other vendors. It is good for backing up Microsoft servers, but it doesn't support third-party solutions such as Oracle Database. It depends on Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy, especially for Hyper-V, which has a lot of problems. They should enhance the Volume Shadow Copy functionality. Its reporting should also be better. Reporting is too weak in DPM."
"The user interface can be improved quite a bit."
"You have only a few settings and if you change them for some special configurations, it's very difficult."
"It would be better if it integrated seamlessly with open source and competitor products. In the next release, I would like to see some data governance frameworks. It should have support features for data integration and data replication like Veeam. Right now, we are also using Veeam for certain scenarios."
"There is a very poor online user community in terms of people blogging about their experiences with DPM."
"Additional Hyper-V knowledge would be great."
"The data tagging feature needs improvement. The solution could be a bit more intuitive in certain aspects."
"We can't take a snapshot and take it outside, which is a problem."
"I want to see more features regarding filtering in the Snapshot Window, as I need to be able to set a filter for specific dates and times. If I want to check an old backup, I must scroll through one or two years of backups to find what I'm looking for."
"If there was something that we could get Rubrik to fix, it would be when our DBS takes snapshots of a server or the database, the replication doesn't kick off fast enough. They can't remote it to the peer site and manipulate it back up in order to move it over, take a copy of production, slap it over, and test it out. As I understand, they are working on it. Replication works. We also get spoiled by how good things are now. We get to a point where it is so easy but when something isn't instant gratification, it seems that everything else is so amazing, why isn't this right?"
"Rubrik could improve in customization options for dashboards."
"With Windows, it is difficult to configure Oracle Database."
"I would like to see more openness for partners to access and assist in system management. Currently, access is limited, often handled by Rubrik personnel, likely due to security concerns."
"The product’s user interface needs improvement."
"It is already very well furnished, but live mounts for Nutanix AHV would be amazing."
"They need to find a solution for SMBs. It is currently only suitable for enterprises or big customers. They need to find a solution that suits SMBs."
