"For detection, it has a great algorithm. It can recognize ID numbers and everything that you put in a policy for the end-users. That is really great for us as an institution where we have sensitive data. It recognizes all the sensitive data when someone tries to transfer it or put in other data.""The accuracy in terms of the rate of detection is good.""The most valuable aspect of Symantec DLP is its broad coverage. Symantec DLP covers USB, Outlook email clients, and web traffic. If we install the endpoint DLP, we can cover multiple channels, including the clipboard and printer.""The product is very stable.""The most valuable feature of Symantec Data Loss Prevention is the ease of modification.""The most valuable features of Symantec Data Loss Prevention are endpoint security, endpoint agent, and DLP. Additionally, we have been satisfied with the policies.""The data matching features are the most valuable due to the easy policy setup and implementation.""They have a feature on the management side called the document indexer. Let's say you have a unique document with many near identical versions, which have one or several values that change, while the rest of the content stays the same. You can collect 50 of those documents and put them into this feature of the Symantec DLP system. It will compress them and create a profile specifically for that document."

Cons
"The product should be compatible with multiple file formats."

"Reporting could be improved.""The enforce service is difficult to understand, and free courses made available on the internet would be useful.""They could improve the predefined reports because they don't have much information. We would like detailed reports.""The one downside for Symantec is that, due to its transition from Symantec to Broadcom, there's been a lot of changes. I am based in the Philippines and we don't have a contact person locally for any Symantec.""The upgrade process is convoluted. The server and database software must run in line with third-party providers like the Oracle database. If an Oracle database reaches the end of its life, then servers must be decommissioned, and you need to bring new servers online. When the maintenance packages are deployed to the management server, they don't get pushed to the detection servers. Each detection server must be manually installed rather than automatically made from a single server. If it's a large enterprise, you need to manually install it or use a GPO or some other technology, which I never use.""The product's pricing and support services need improvement.""The product's technical support services need improvement.""Since being acquired by Broadcom, the support has really degraded for small and medium enterprises."

    Overview

The industry’s most comprehensive and most advanced cloud DLP solution secures sensitive data consistently everywhere across the entire enterprise.

Keeping sensitive corporate information safe and compliant has never been easy. But today, you’re faced with a totally new set of data protection challenges. Sensitive information is leaving the safety of your corporate network as more employees share files over consumer cloud storage services and access those files on their own mobile devices. The number of targeted cyber attacks continues to grow, as cybercriminals develop effective new methods for defeating traditional security measures and stealing corporate information. And as all of these factors converge, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage corporate information and protect it against loss and theft.

Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP) provides a comprehensive approach to information protection that embraces today’s cloud- and mobile-centered realities. With DLP, you can:

    • Discover where data is stored across all of your cloud, mobile, network, endpoint, and storage systems

    • Monitor how data is being used, whether your employees are on or off the network

    • Protect data from being leaked or stolen—no matter where it’s stored or how it’s used
