We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.

Pros
"All the features come as part of a standard license.""OpenText ProVision's best feature is the capability to attach a variety of attributes and extract and analyze that information.""The stability of the product is very good."

"The main reason I choose Visio is that it is easy to use. The user interface is familiar and straightforward. Additionally, it offers a variety of templates, such as those for Cisco solutions, which make it easy to create diagrams for specific use cases. For example, we use a Cisco Meraki switch and we can find the exact template for it, then we can easily drop in the components and connect the cables to create the diagram.""The solution is very user-friendly.""The most valuable aspect of Visio is enabling comprehensive coverage of architectural elements.""It is a scalable solution.""The primary functionality revolves around the creation of flow diagrams and diverse Building Information Modeling (BIM) using contemporary and pre-established notations. In my perspective, these ready-made notations prove highly beneficial. Despite being a compact tool, it is effective for tasks such as drawing organizational charts, making it a straightforward and uncomplicated tool.""The solution is easy to understand with some hands-on experience.""The thing I like most about Visio is the stencils. As the product has matured over time, it comes with more stencils and objects that you can just pick out of the menu and go with.""Visio is a very easy tool in general, making it easy for anyone to understand."

Cons
"Integrating with or interfacing with other tools like data management tools would be very helpful.""OpenText ProVision's collaboration management is quite complicated and difficult to use.""Lacks the ability to have your own in-house developments."

More OpenText ProVision Cons →

"The database modeling has deteriorated significantly in the more current versions.""Portability from Visio to PowerPoint and vice versa could be simplified.""I would like to be able to present diagrams in multiple ways, such as a Swimlane diagram.""Occasionally, the automation feature that helps you easily add the "next step" goes crazy and it will move a bunch of stuff.""It could use easier custom icon sets.""The only downside to Visio is the learning curve.""There could be better integration between Visio and Word, especially when it comes to importing graphics from the one to the other.""It would be nice if there is a database behind it. We have looked into this functionality, but all of the other solutions that have a database are very locked down, and you have to use them their way. You can't define your own stuff. For example, we have a system X, and I want to define system X myself and have it available. If I am ever going to make a change to system X, I want to pull up all the drawings that are associated with system X. I want to be able to search and pull all those drawings. Visio should have the ability to capture metrics associated with each step in the process. For example, based on a specific time, I should be able to link the data to a spreadsheet, which is kind of like the data analysis on the process."

    Reviews from Real Users

Visio has improved my workflow by making it easy to create charts, diagrams, and essential illustrations to use in my client reports and proposals. It has saved me a lot of time I would otherwise spend creating visuals for clients manually.” - Michael B., Principal Consultant at Lexington Consulting

“I use it for diagramming networks, racks, data centers, data flow applications, etc. It is a useful tool to map data flows, network objects, and computer science technology and to show to clients. It does what I need it to do. It's a tool I've used the longest, so I know it the best, and that's probably the claim to fame.” - Greg S., Director of Solution Architecture at Winslow Technology Group

“We use Visio for architecture modeling. We also use it to facilitate communication with other people. The feature I like most about Visio is that it acts as a facilitator of communication, as it displays information in a way that's easier to understand.” - Guy M., IT/Business Architect at a financial services firm
