We performed a comparison between Fortinet FortiOS and Meraki MX based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The most valuable feature is the bundled subscription, which is IPS, TV and web filtering."
"We use a southern institution that's audited for IT security and the reporting that automatically comes off the unit makes it much easier to meet compliance standards and makes it easier as far as the amount of time that has to be spent to compile that information. If you get your reporting set up correctly when you initially set it up, you just select the one you want and hit print. The auditing trail on it is the best feature."
"The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiGate are the rules and quality of service."
"The web tutor and automatic rules by schedule are good features."
"The GUI is good."
"The reporting you receive out of this appliance is excellent. You will not need an external management system."
"The pricing is excellent. It's much less expensive than Cisco."
"This solution made it very easy to manage our bandwidth."
"The interface is good."
"The interface is easy to understand, so when there are threats you get alerts. It's quite intuitive, but if you are ever confused they have instructional videos. For example, if you don't understand a graph there's a link to a video that explains what the graph means. It makes it very user-friendly."
"We have expanded the wireless access point and switches using Fortinet FortiOS."
"For my organization, it has become much easier to scan the firewalls because the solution is more user-friendly than competitors."
"The solution is extremely scalable."
"Fortinet FortiOS's valuable features include intuitive policy creation and deployment, precise parameter settings to determine thresholds, and security profiles such as web filtering and remote application filtering, among others."
"I have found the most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiOS is the low maintenance."
"This is an easy means of setting up high-availabilty firewall protection."
"Dual WAN connections are greatly simplified and point-to-point VPNs automatically connect regardless of what WAN connection is active."
"Easy to deploy with a simple configuration."
"The technical support people from Meraki are brilliant."
"The most valuable feature is that we didn't have any problems with Meraki MX."
"The most valuable feature of Meraki MX is I can manage the solution from anywhere remotely, I can throttle bandwidth, and create all rules. Additionally, it is secure for our customers."
"When you try to create an IP or when you have an alert about when a website is banned, these features are helpful."
"The solution is easy to set up."
"The cloud management system is really valuable."
"I would like to see a more intuitive dashboard."
"When we cluster the two Fortinet FortiGate boxes together we have some issues."
"The platform's interface could improve."
"Backup can be improved."
"The performance could be a bit better. Right now, I find it to be lacking. Having good performance is very important for our work."
"As far as wanting more scalability or things in the network diagram, it's going to cost you."
"To the best of my knowledge, Fortinet does not have a CASB solution and Fortinet does not have a Zero trust solution."
"I would like to see improvements in the support from Fortinet. Here in the Philippines, whenever we have problems with a Fortinet product, we mostly ask for support from distributors and resellers and not directly from Fortinet."
"FortiOS's interface and monitoring could be improved."
"The solution needs improvement with DDoS protection."
"Fortinet's central management needs to be improved. FortiManager's technical tool provider ability should manage all Fortinet security products. Right now, FortiManager only manages the configuration of FortiGate."
"Fortinet FortiOS can improve by limiting the need for the CLI and GUI combination. The more functions they can have on the GUI and less on CLI would be helpful."
"We had assistance from one person from our local vendor for the implementation."
"Their first-level support is often poorly trained."
"While it is a solid solution, there are some product limitations which exclude it from deployment in some situations."
"There are some issues with the performance. We also had some issues while updating the firmware."
"Load balancing options and ability to manage a couple of Internet connections."
"It can be hard to get a hold of the solution’s technical support team."
"The security is not as strong as it could be"
"The product is quite complex to set up."
"The solution's pricing should be reduced."
"In general, the SD-WAN feature needs to be improved. The load sharing and load balancing of the traffic should be improved. I have had some problems with these features in the past."
"We have been having a problem with the VPN. When the energy goes down and is back again, the VPN link doesn't get established. We have to manually turn off the modems and other pieces of equipment and manually establish the VPN. It has been around one month since we have been having this problem, and we don't have enough support from Meraki to solve the problem."
"We had minor issues with Meraki MX. We had a couple of RMAs, so that could be an area for improvement, but in terms of how the RMAs went, the turnaround time and getting those back into redeployment were quick. Another area for improvement in Meraki MX is that when you're scaling for multiple locations, you need to use the same model, but the model you'd need is only available for a short time. The specific model you require could be out of stock, or Meraki isn't making that model anymore, so Meraki should improve that."
