Features: Rubrik is praised for its automated policy enforcement and efficient ransomware detection. Users say Zerto offers excellent data protection, and it’s easy to create VMs. Zerto users also like its real-time replication features. Rubrik could expand compatibility with open-source databases, improve documentation, and strengthen its ability to back up remote sites. Zerto could improve cloud environment configuration, PowerShell scripting, and multi-site replication.
Service and Support: Rubrik customers appreciate the support team's expertise and fast response. Customers have generally had positive experiences with Zerto's customer service, noting their quick response times and ability to resolve issues. Some customers have encountered slower response times and needed to go through multiple levels of support to get their issues resolved.
Ease of Deployment: Rubrik's setup is simple, and users say the support team was available to assist as needed. The setup process for Zerto can be either simple or complicated, depending on the individual's experience with backup solutions.
Pricing: Some users find Rubrik's pricing expensive, but many say it’s justified by its encryption and security features. Rubrik's license includes both software and hardware without any additional costs. Zerto’s price tag is considered reasonable and in line with industry norms. Others said it was somewhat expensive but still worth the cost.
ROI: Rubrik provides peace of mind and some cost savings, but users say that quantifying the ROI is difficult. Zerto reduces risks while saving costs and time. It increases efficiency, ensures compliance, and helps businesses grow.
Comparison Results: Users like Rubrik’s advanced ransomware features, excellent support, and automated policy enforcement. However, some had issues with its remote backup abilities and high price tag. Zerto offers top-tier data protection, excellent customer service, and real-time replication, but some users say its cloud and multi-site functionality could be better.
"A Google-like file search, system scaling, and a frequent development cycle are some positives that this solution offers."
"Takes me 80 percent less time to manage my backup environment."
"The web-based approach is the most valuable feature."
"Drives the back-end through a powerful, well-documented API."
"It has the ability to test DR in a controlled, inexpensive way and to restore between environments."
"Product support team is excellent, with issues typically being resolved on the same day."
"What I like the most about Rubrik is its user-friendly interface."
"The search functionality is second to none as the speed of the search is fast across the whole system and predictive."
"It works really well. It's simple to set up and works well. Moreover, disaster recovery to the cloud to our organization is very important. We actually had to use it three years ago, and it worked out well for us."
"Zerto is intuitive. We could set everything up in the environment within a day and a half and start migrating on the third day."
"One of the valuable features is the ability to re-IP on the fly, because it makes the migration a lot smoother on the system end."
"We are in the process of switching over our production data center and Zerto has been a true time-saver that has cost us zero downtime."
"It is very user-friendly. There is no wondering about what a feature does. It is easy to use."
"The orchestration and automation of the DR and how it replicates the VMs and then picks them up in the DR site have been most valuable."
"I like the fact that Zerto is target agnostic. It doesn't care what type of storage it writes to. The journaling is also excellent. You can easily and quickly restore to seconds before an event. The immutable data copies feature is one reason we adopted Zerto. That's one of its selling points."
"The communication between the VM and the secondary data center is the most valuable feature."
"They support Hyper-V and it works with our CloudOut, the cloud DR, but they seem to add features for VMware first and Hyper-V gets added second or sometimes several releases after the VMware feature comes out."
"The deployment and configuration of the backup service is something that could be streamlined a little bit, particularly when you're trying to do a SQL workload. You have to install a backup service on the server. You only have to do it once and then you're done, but you have to do that on every server that you want to protect."
"There is room for improvement in pricing. After the licensing, the price tends to go up as time goes by."
"If there was something that we could get Rubrik to fix, it would be when our DBS takes snapshots of a server or the database, the replication doesn't kick off fast enough. They can't remote it to the peer site and manipulate it back up in order to move it over, take a copy of production, slap it over, and test it out. As I understand, they are working on it. Replication works. We also get spoiled by how good things are now. We get to a point where it is so easy but when something isn't instant gratification, it seems that everything else is so amazing, why isn't this right?"
"I hope to see enhancements in areas like data governance and the incorporation of new features in future updates."
"The Polaris piece could use improvement. When you get a report and you have events that are suspicious, you cannot drill down and find out why it's suspicious. You only know it's suspicious, but you don't know the root cause. Other than that, everything works well."
"The reporting, in particular the customization of reports, needs to be improved."
"Better integration for complex NAS structures having to mount at root adds time and workload to the process of NDMP."
"Whenever we do a failover, there's a confirmation box that shows up later. It's a little hard to see sometimes... A popup to continue would be a little bit better because then you're not sitting and waiting for something and it's already there."
"They are not cheap. They are more expensive than others."
"It would be nice to have the option to do automatic failover, but right now the only option is manual."
"The RPO for our SQL server has room for improvement."
"I am a little bit worried about how Zerto will work with large volumes of data, such as replication for big data and very large files."
"They definitely have room for improvement in a couple of areas. One is role-based access control. Right now, they don't have an identity source so they use the identity of the vCenter or the VMM. If they connected to an identity source like Active Directory and allowed for granular roles and permissions, that would be an improvement."
"The pricing could be a little bit lower."
"This solution could be improved by being more cloud agnostic."
