Comparison Results: Veeam Backup & Replication comes out on top in this comparison. According to its users, it is a powerful, comprehensive, and mature solution. Veeam Backup & Replication also received higher marks for its support than Veritas Backup Exec did.
"It is a powerful software for communicating with the storage and for redundancy."
"Instant recovery, ease of use, and integrations are some of the valuable features."
"A simple and stable solution for small businesses that use virtualization."
"It is a stable product with useful snapshot and replication features."
"Veeam is quick, easy to work with, and its support for Microsoft products is good. They also provide adequate solutions for backing up Microsoft applications in the cloud, such as Office 365."
"The initial setup was very easy."
"I know it's not exactly a feature, but I accept it works and it's easy to use. With the Veeam Backup & Replication, we have no problems in managing restore. Obviously, the most important thing about backup software. I used to say that every backup software can make backups, but only good ones can make a restore."
"Its backup capabilities in general are great."
"Setting up Backup Exec is straightforward. It took less than two weeks to get it up and running. You need maybe two people at most if you have a Veritas-certified engineer."
"One of the valuable features is the instant recovery for VMs. It reduces the RTO (Recovery Time Objective) drastically."
"It is responding very well, and its performance is good. It has a lot of options. For backup, you can connect it to a cloud or a physical hard drive. They also provide an API for integration with different platforms and products. However, we have not integrated it with another product."
"Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries."
"It gives us the ability to locate and restore critical files which users may have intentionally or unknowing deleted a while ago."
"The one thing for the last 12 months which has been very good for Veritas was the instance-based license. This means that you're able to license per instance, not only per physical server."
"The initial setup is easy."
"The most important feature is the variety of backup applications it supports, including ERP systems and most other programs, such as Microsoft."
"The parallel backup process from the Veeam server to Veeam has some limitations. The number of parallel backups should be increased and the compressional is very low. Sometimes it is half or one-third, but other backup solutions' compression levels are very high."
"The initial setup was not straightforward at all."
"I only ever found one error. It was when we were doing a file copy job. After using it for ten minutes, it would slow down and cause a bottleneck error."
"During the initial setup especially, there's a bit of a learning curve."
"Immutability could be improved."
"I prefer a software backup solution that allows me to easily define my origin data, including data files, folders, and virtual machines."
"The deduplication feature could be improved by changing to global deduplication."
"Technical support can be improved."
"The initial installation needs some effort."
"Whenever a job fails, it would be a great improvement to be able to resume the job from that feature. Suppose a job was started this morning and that it is going on while there are interruptions like network issues, server restart issues, server connectivity issues, services stopping, etc. For some reason, let's assume that the job failed or that it was mistakenly canceled by another person. It will be a great improvement if that failed job can be continued."
"The solution lacked local support, which became an issue for us and our customers. They needed to have more presence on the ground."
"Veritas Backup Exec should improve by having a user portal that customers can use."
"The reports could be made in an easier way."
"The one thing which could be improved, which we have informed Veritas about, is the ability to plug in to the cloud. Meaning, instead of using local storage if we're backing up a small user or end user, we want to be able to make it so they can direct the backups directly to the cloud. It can't be done at the moment. We can only back up to the storage then replicate to the cloud, but we cannot use the cloud as a source of storage."
"Doesn't include disaster recovery."
"The backup is not robust enough when you have a lot of technology."
