We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points.""The single dashboard is a valuable feature."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Pros →

"Monitors the infrastructure asset and also monitors as an IT service.""It is very scalable.""I definitely appreciate the flexibility and ease of use. We've been using UIM for almost three years now. It's pretty much point and click, very easy to use. And we've had no problems scaling it to our own environment.""The monitoring of the applications to let our business know when things are performing and that they're up and available.""Monitoring infrastructure and business applications are the most valuable features.""The ability to monitor any platform. We have Windows, Linux, AIX, and mainframe all being monitored with the same UIM infrastructure.""It is easy to implement but requires good planning.""This solution allows us to have an overview of the infrastructure and identify areas where the performance isn't optimal, or where upgrades could be carried out."

More DX Unified Infrastructure Management Pros →

"The initial setup, while not simple, is easier than other products.""Our customers also like that they don't have to use multiple modules. Micro Focus and major vendors typically require you to buy several modules and plugins. Our customers do not like that. We offer them a single product for all their monitoring needs.""Setup was straightforward. Initial deployment took two or three months.""The initial setup was very quick. The first time it was long because I didn't know it yet. I was only using Windows. The first time was very difficult because of the operating system.""The solution allows for good integration with other products.""The solution is quite mature and very stable.""The overall functionality of Zabbix is very good. The monitoring of bank applications that Zabbix provides is great. The information is displayed on a dashboard that is easily viewed.""The most valuable features are the monitoring and the ease with which we can set it up at customer sites with our custom Zabbix proxy and tools."

More Zabbix Pros →

Cons
"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement.""The technical support needs improvement."

More Juniper Mist Premium Analytics Cons →

"Making a GUI with criteria such as selection by robot/hub/probe etc.""A useful feature to have would be automatic configuration per standard by new robots that check in for any particular customer.""The UIM has no features through goods and services yet. ""DX UIM's reporting and customization need to be improved.""Reporting capability can be improved especially when it comes to availability.""The other element is that there are no real templates, out of the box. Let's go with an example where we do have the probe, which is great, and we do have a really nuanced customer with a small set of devices that maybe not a lot of other customers use. There might not be a template in place, so effectively we have the tool in front of us but we still need to develop a solution. So it would be really nice to see a little bit more of something like a central repository of templates that we could use. That would help us expedite our onboarding process.""We had to do some work to make what was more of a business class solution work at an enterprise level.""It is a little complex to use versus other softwares."

More DX Unified Infrastructure Management Cons →

"I would like for this solution to be more cloud-friendly.""When we have a problem, we have to do a lot of research to solve it.""It would be helpful if they translated the documentation to Cyrillic languages.""The integration of the product is not so easy, especially when it comes to the application database.""The main problem with Zabbix is that you have to spend time writing templates for all of the products that you have.""Outside of the normal standard monitoring, I would like to extend patching, importing patching, and supporting patching for Windows Servers.""The System Center Operations Manager can be improved.""The APM monitoring has room for improvement, although I hear that the new 5.2 version has some improvements in that area, and I'd like to give that a go. I would like to see a few more templates out there for different styles of monitoring. I use the Grafana interface for reporting. I would also like it to have an out-of-the-box ability to email reports. You can create reports, but to be able to email those reports would be really helpful. I've got users who are not interested in logging in and generating a report. They want it all pre-canned and sent to an email address. It would also be really handy if we could pin certain reports up onto platforms such as Teams or SharePoint. A GUI for the proxy server would be cool to have for debugging purposes and for the support teams to have a look at, but I don't know whether that's really feasible to do. I get enough from the log files themselves."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
  • "The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
  • "The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
  • "Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
  • "CAD $400,000 annually."
  • "Customers pay for the license and the support."
  • "Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."

  • "It is a true open-source solution, so there are no licensing costs."
  • "The product is an open source and free solution."
  • "It's free software released under the GNU/GPL license."
  • "There are no licenses."
  • "We’re using the free version, which covers all our current needs."
  • "It is free, which allows us to reduce costs."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
