We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Some of the key features of the solution is that it has good reporting, you can receive many details from the connection, for example, clients and website information.""It is a good source for firewall protection.""The email protection and VPN features are the most valuable.""Security, SD-WAN, and Streetscape are valuable features.""Fortinet offers the latest versions to cater to the needs of enterprises.""I only deal with it from a security analyst's point of view. I don't really get into the features of the actual FortiGate. From the security point of view, it works, and it does its job.""It is simple to manage, and there are a lot of functionalities in the same box.""Its administrative panel is very intuitive and simple. It is simpler than the other solutions that we had. As an administrator, we are always looking for the easiest solution to manage network policies. We are able to filter everything on our network and also use the VPN feature, which is important these days when people are working remotely during COVID."

"In terms of specific features, I like FortiGate's load balancing, interface, and priority on the network.""While the stability maybe isn't quite to the level of Cisco, it is a very cost-effective solution. It's cheap compared to Cisco.""Operations have been flawless.""We like FortiGate-VM's IPS features and its ability to create multiple virtual firewalls.""There is an interesting possibility of building a tunnel to a firewall from access points. We use this feature for small branch offices with one to two employees with access to central RDP servers.""FortiGate integrates well.""Its technical support is excellent.""The product is quite user-friendly so we didn't have a lot of issues that needed to be addressed."

"The solution offers good sandboxing.""It is a stable solution.""The solution is scalable.""The visibility and log availability offered are highly valued for troubleshooting purposes, and this is a key factor driving customer interest in the firewall module.""It helps a lot of companies to reduce their downtime. Also, It helps businesses in terms of being secured and protected from any threats.""Zscaler Cloud Firewall understands the applications in the current generation and adapts to the present generation cloud applications.""I like the ease of deployment and its flexibility. We don't need to deal with license, quotes, procurement, delivery, and installation. Everything is software-based, and it's very easy to operate.""It provides in-depth visibility into your network, ensuring that traffic flowing into your organization, be it from offices or individual users, is effectively filtered and secured through multiple layers of protection."

Cons
"Technical support for this solution can be improved.""One issue that I have had is that sometimes I need to monitor the traffic, so I need to filter it according to the user and which user is using it the most. I experience a bottleneck most of the time, particularly at the peak time when the number of contracts and users are at maximum.""From a reporting perspective, there's room for improvement. They're providing FortiAnalyzer through which one can get some enhancements, but the visibility and reporting still need slight improvement.""There are just some services that aren't available. For example, the Ethernet or point-to-point protocols. They could add these services to their product offering - especially services for ISPs.""At first glance, the interface for the device is very confusing.""They can do more tests before they release new versions because I would like to be more assured. We had some experiences where they release something new and great, but some of the old features are disabled or they don't work well, which impacts the product satisfaction. The manufacturer should be able to prove that everything works or not only that it might work. This is applicable to most of the other services, software, and hardware companies. They all should work on this. We cannot trust every new release, such as a beta release, on the first day. We wait for some comments on the forums and from other companies that we know. We always wait a few weeks before we use the updated version. They should also extend the VPN client application, especially for Linux versions. Currently, it has an application for Linux devices, but it doesn't work the way we want to connect to the VPN. They use only the old connection, not the new one. They have VPN client applications for Windows and Mac, but they can add more useful features to better manage the devices and monitor the current health of each device. Such features would be helpful for our company.""Fortinet FortiGate needs to improve the logging and reporting. Additionally, the next-generation application's policies should be improved. When they were released they had bugs.""I would like to see better pricing in the next release, as well as a simplification of the installation."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"The licensing needs to be improved. We need longer licensing periods, especially for POCs and trials. It should be for six months. Right now, it's too short of a timeframe.""The graphical user interface should be enhanced.""I don't have any specific improvements to suggest, but perhaps the pricing could be enhanced. Regarding updates, more frequent updates would be appreciated. FortiGate-VM is currently focused on providing very good firmware updates, automation, and top-notch features. It stands as a great product for now. Based on our needs and the vulnerabilities we've encountered due to various downloads, I suggest integrating with Kaspersky Gateway. This integration would involve scanning and inspecting both official emails and spam emails. Our customer has successfully worked with Kaspersky Gateway, and overall, the integration has been effective.""The user interface (UI) and the performance of interface both need improvement.""Fortinet FortiGate-VM should improve its asset identification, wherein the device can identify assets on the network, like computers.""New versions are complicated with a big configuration.""To improve FortiGate-VM, Fortinet needs to harden it more. For example, if you are using Hyper-V, then you need guidelines for hardening FortiGate-VM that are specific to the Hyper-V environment. If it's VMware, there should be at least a guideline on how to harden the firewall.""They could simplify the troubleshooting process."

More Fortinet FortiGate-VM Cons →

"Certain criteria need to be met if you want to scale this solution.""Zscaler Cloud Firewall should have a better understanding of all dynamic cloud applications.""The product could improve its integration with some legacy systems.""We are having some issues with internet access being denied when organizational ID-based policies change. For example, a lower level employee ends up getting the same level of access as that of a higher level employee.""There are some areas it could improve when it comes to blocking, we have to block some things manually. For example, if we block a top-level domain we have seen that the new IPs come through, the IPs are not blocked. There should be some more granular way of doing it. My only request is if you're blocking something at a top level, the sub-level sub-domains and all those other IPs should be blocked too automatically.""Its technical support services could be better.""Pricing is a challenge.""It would be better if they improved their policy, package visibility, and flexibility while we're creating rules for inspection. It could also be cheaper or more things could be included in the basic package. In the next release, I would like better coverage in the Asia Pacific region and better quality of service."
