We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is user-friendly.""The reporting for this solution has been most valuable.""The details and the reports they provide are what I like, especially the details for almost the whole computer and the OS type.""I'm really happy with the background remote access, which allows me to easily change system internals such as registry keys and silently execute commands using the command prompt in the background. This kind of remote access makes it easy for us to do our jobs without getting in the customer's way.""I find all features of N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management valuable, but the most valuable is its monitoring feature. The solution has great monitoring functionalities. For example, you can monitor a device in terms of its RAM, CPU, etc. You can also monitor the connectivity through N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management, and you can also check whether a device is down or up through the solution. I also like that you can monitor Windows servers, Linux servers, printers, network devices, and virtualization servers such as VMware and Hyper-V using N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management. You can also monitor disk utilization, HTTPS, whether an SSL certificate is valid or expired, etc., through the solution. Apart from monitoring, I also find patch management as one of the most valuable features of N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management. You can use it for Windows updates, as a patch management example. You can even manage and monitor servers and backup services via N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management, so whenever there's a backup failure or issue, you'll receive alerts from the solution, as long as it's configured as a Windows service, so you can even do a lot of preventive maintenance activities with the help of N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management. The solution is one of the best RMM solutions I've used so far. It's user-friendly, and it's pretty easy to use because you only need one interface where you can do a lot of activities. As a technician, I'm always concerned with time because if I have to troubleshoot an issue or a major incident, if I have to jump into two or three systems and open a few tabs on those systems, it'll be very hectic, especially if I have to switch between each step to see what's going on. In N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management, it's pretty easy to do because I have one interface and one tab where I can do a lot of processes and activities.""We like that this solution is in real-time, it gives us real-time monitoring.""The integrated backup and the scripting are good.""The most valuable aspect of N-able Remote Monitoring & Management is it provides an all-in solution for the different solutions."

"PRTG Network Monitor helps us quickly and easily discover a large number of sensors, so we can spend minimal time monitoring customer sites.""The real-time monitoring feature in PRTG is invaluable to me""The alerting is the most valuable feature. I also like the iPhone app. I get alerts in an email on the iPhone app.""PRTG gives us true visibility of the downtime of particular circuit functions. So if a circuit is up but not routing traffic, I will know with this tool. I can write a customized script for a sensor to detect specific things.""The solution is scalable.""The most valuable features of PRTG Network Monitor are user-friendly, and the graphical interface is good for all the network devices that are mapped in this organization. It's very easy to find reports for any devices that we are looking for.""The most valuable feature of this solution is being able to see things graphically.""The tool is integrated with our email for the alerts."

Cons
"The solutions could improve by adding more features.""Kaseya is a similar product and they have easier scripts. If you want to deploy one software to 100 machines, we need to dig into it and then we need to create the script and work with the support team and then we can deploy that particular script. The pre-built scripted is the one thing that I would definitely like to have improved.""We haven't had it for very long, and we're finally getting comfortable with it. The biggest improvement probably would be a little more clarification. It has few exclamation points or attention-getters when there is a computer that doesn't have the up-to-date patches, etc. However, it's not specific in terms of what you need to do. Sometimes, it says it requires a reboot, and you reboot it, but the same message still shows up. Sometimes, the messages that it gives you about how to resolve an issue are not very easy to understand.""The product looks a bit old-fashioned.""There are disconnection issues sometimes.""There is quite a bit of delay on the portal where we receive monitoring information from the endpoint agent on the remote device. Sometimes it gets stuck with no live response from the device, and you have to refresh the portal just to make sure that it's projecting the right information.""It would be great if the pricing model could be improved and the solution was more affordable.""The SentinelOne integration is not great."

More N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management Cons →

"Needs ability to monitor standard notification time (notify after X time).""I would like to see Office 365 monitoring. Essentially, it doesn't do it. I assumed not at all, but apparently it does it slightly. However, due to issues with APIs, they currently don't provide full monitoring for O365.""If PRTG could help me see the bandwidth for each host I have on my network, either for a wireless or a wired network, that would be very helpful.""While the desktop app is good, they could slightly improve it. We would like it to be a single pane of glass. At the moment, you can only see certain portions of information. You have to scroll through to make it more granular. We want them to develop the desktop app to be more user-friendly.""It would be good if there were better graphical interfaces when you have it on multiple monitors... Because we have so many servers, things can get lost in the fog a little bit. Maybe having a better way of showing different geographies, Flash, etc., would help.""In our organization, we encounter performance issues with our PRTG probe service. I saw documentation from the vendor or Paessler mentioning that there are limitations for WMI sensors. Other than that, we are okay with PRTG.""The only sort of limitation is the actual probes. So, if you don't have enough probes on there, you can over flip them and cause the WMI sensors and SNMP sensors to sort of overload. Sometimes, they might timeout for a minute, but they do come back.""When using PRTG Network Monitor it is beneficial if you have prior experience with it, the user interface could improve."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It's expensive and out of our budget."
  • "We use SolarWinds RMM on a pay-as-you-go monthly basis, so the cost can be highly variable because it depends on a few factors such as how many devices you need to support and what extra features you want to use. The more devices you have, the more you'll pay, and the same goes for extras."
  • "There is a license required for this solution."
  • "I haven't paid a whole lot of attention to that since I set it up. It has per-user licensing. If I remember it correctly, it worked out to about $10 a month per user. There were no additional costs. It was pretty straightforward and simple."
  • "Out clients pay monthly for the license of N-able Remote Monitoring & Management."
  • "As I'm not part of the procurement team and because I'm 100% technical, I'm not that familiar with the costs associated with N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management, but I can say that in my location, particularly here in Sri Lanka, it's more expensive than other RMM solutions. I'm working for an Australian IT MSP, and over there, the solution isn't as expensive, but where I'm located, it is, so this is the reason why sometimes, clients don't go with N-able N-sight Remote Monitoring & Management. Licensing cost is also the reason why my organization is looking into Kaseya RMM. My current organization merged with another organization that's using both Kaseya RMM and Connectwise."
  • "The product is fairly priced."
  • "The solution is not very expensive."

  • "Licenses are very expensive, so I would like to see cheaper licensing."
  • "If you're looking for a cost effective software I’d suggest this product."
  • "Sensors on free version can run out quick."
  • "The ability to use the base version with 100 free sensors is great. The cost on other packages can be very reasonable."
  • "When you buy PRTG, everything comes in one bundle. Licensing is very easy."
  • "The price was pretty good, very competitive."
  • "The pricing is not too bad. It's not massively expensive, and the ability to upscale or even downscale licenses every year is brilliant for us."
  • "On a yearly basis, I believe it's between £1,200 and £1,500."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
