We performed a comparison between Grafana and Prometheus based on real PeerSpot user reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Users prefer Grafana to Prometheus because it has better visualization tools, more customizable graphs, and a more user-friendly interface. Although Prometheus is known for its flexibility and integration capabilities, it lacks user-friendliness and reporting capabilities. Furthermore, Grafana provides better customer service and support, with a helpful community and good documentation.
"Visualisation: It is easy to create beautiful, understanding graphs, snapshots to share the graphs with people who do not have access to Grafana, and templating to create powerful graphs."
"We like the alert features."
"Great capacity planning and the solution has a great GUI."
"The comparison feature is very good."
"It gives us the visibility we need. I like that when we add deployment markers or release markers, we know exactly when an issue arises. For instance, if there is an increased usage of CPU, we can link it directly to the deployment that might have caused the issue. It increases productivity and observability. We can now easily tell when a certain issue arises. It's way easier to debug because it can point you to certain things based on these markers, and we can debug easier."
"It is a stable solution."
"This solution provides valuable insights into the health of our infrastructure in real time."
"We can write queries in different languages, which is beneficial for visualization."
"It is a stable solution...Based on the feedback I have received from my colleagues in our company's IT department, the setup phase of the solution is relatively easy."
"The feature I found most valuable is the number of integrations. It is the industry standard for metrics."
"The most valuable feature is that we can receive information in different formats."
"Prometheus is a great solution for monitoring."
"The scalability of Prometheus is very good."
"The sky is the limit because the solution is a flexible open box that can be used vastly to do anything you need to monitor applications."
"It has lots of APIs and libraries to integrate with any kind of language."
"It is an efficient solution."
"We need different kinds of applications in our infrastructure to see information in Grafana."
"The service dashboard is very hard and needs improvement."
"The product's configuration for saving files could be improved."
"I had issues with the solution's configuration part."
"The main drawback is the necessity for endpoint monitoring."
"It's difficult to see the trends on the graph when the range is too long."
"Lacks event management which affects our DevOps people."
"It would be helpful if they simplified the data source."
"I would like to see improvement in the analysis tools and customization features."
"Prometheus has a learning curve when setting it up. It definitely requires a little bit more hands-on than other solutions. It is an open source solution which means you do need to go through and read the literature that they have online for setting it up. The setup could be made easier."
"The scalability must be improved."
"The simplicity of the query language could be improved. The current query language is not easy to work with."
"Prometheus' UI color can improve. Using the Prometheus UI for configuration or analyzing queries is a horrible experience."
"There is a need for a more comprehensive overview of exporters, especially when dealing with many of them."
"The solution has shortcomings regarding security monitoring-oriented features to support custom use cases, like out-of-the-box test scenarios and threat-related use cases of its users."
"There isn’t much clarity regarding the issues that happen at the server end. It is a push model and from the client’s point of view, it needs to look better and solve remote issues."
