Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is easy to use, especially for individuals who are not familiar with coding and has security built-in.""It's more reliable, secure, and easy to deploy. It's much more stable as a platform.""It is probably the best solution out there.""The solution is pretty stable.""The solution's technical support is great since, in our company, we get answers to most of our questions, and most of our queries get resolved with the help of the documentation itself.""Azure Stack is like a hybrid model with a CI/CD pipeline. The IaaS and PaaS model works well with a hybrid type of connectivity.""The most valuable feature is the ease of deployment for services such as SSH, creating a web site, and Azure billing services to measure the consumption of resources.""The tool has simplified our application development."

"In terms of scalability, adding a number of nodes, I find that it will not be any issues.""The most valuable features of Nutanix Acropolis AOS are ease of management, hyper-convergence platform, and it has robust operations.""Nutanix Acropolis AOS is easy to use, integrates with other hardware configurations, and is simple to manage.""Simplified management: It provides us more time to work on other tasks.""In addition to the hyper-converged infrastructure, most of our clients are pleased with Acropolis' built-in replication in terms of the DR setup. Our clients also like Prism Central's advanced management and analytics, and many find Nutanix Flow and playbooks incredibly useful.""The most valuable feature is Move, which allows you to migrate virtual machines from VM to AHV.""A lot of features are there, but for us, on the server administration side, creating a clone of the VM is valuable because many times, we have to deploy security patches. For deploying these patches, it helps to have a clone so that if something goes wrong, we can discard that VM and put back the clone VM. That is a very cool feature.""The scalability is great."

Cons
"There are limits to the bandwidth and sizing of the images.""It should be improved in terms of integrations. It could be integrated more with external tools.""It does not give you a complete, production-ready setup.""I would like to see better support for containers.""I would like to see the AI side come to one hundred percent in the near future.""Azure Stack doesn't have all the services available in Microsoft Azure.""The technical support team's response time needs improvement.""If you look at the documentation set, there are rims and rims of it. You try to drive something from the console, and it's quite complex. It's not it's not easy and straightforward. You've gotta sit down and review it, look at the documentation, and work your way through it. It's not intuitive."

More Azure Stack Cons →

"The name of the solutions offered by Nutanix does not indicate what the tool does.""In terms of the IT different categories, I would like for the governing sections to be able to use it in the IT department. If they can have something like a one view management portal or software similar to VMware that would be an added value.""NCI's pricing is expensive.""It's lacking in some features but overcompensating in others.""I would like to see Acropolis add the ability to migrate VMs between storage containers. I don't know if they've added this in the latest versions, but I haven't seen it yet. It's mainly about AHV. When we use VMware, we can move between storage containers. In VMware, it's just like regular storage, and we can move it.""Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure's cloud platform management software could be improved so that I can manage my load between the cloud and on-premises.""Nutanix can be a bit complex to understand.""Nutanix now supports four hypervisors but they are not all at feature parity."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The cost of Azure Stack is much cheaper than VCE."
  • "Pricing is always a hot topic, so the pricing can always improve."
  • "We are satisfied with the pricing."
  • "It is in the medium range cost-wise. For each component, I sort of buy licensing. Each component has its licensing fee by the number of users or by size."
  • "The pricing is very expensive."
  • "In terms of costs, it is a standard price, and there is no negotiation."
  • "Azure Stack is expensive."
  • "Azure Stack is cheaper than AWS."
  • More Azure Stack Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Able to grow with smaller, more linear increments of investment"
  • "The basic license that comes with the box allows basic virtualization features but advanced automation features would require an upgrade of licenses."
  • "I know Nutanix and VxRail have similar prices and licenses. Nutanix is a go-ahead if AHV is used as hypervisor because it is already embedded in the price."
  • "While cost may seem higher than your traditional 3-tier architecture, you need to look at the bigger picture. You're not just buying hardware here. You're buying a complete environment."
  • "Setup cost is minor, pricing is quite a bit (we have a 7-node-cluster for about 450K EUR with 2 vGPU-nodes for Citrix) but that includes hardware, software, and support."
  • "The price is good but I think there is still room for improvement on the price."
  • "Extra features should not be so expensive. We would love to be able to use or even just try some of the extra features without having to buy them. Buying those features is just as expensive as buying vSphere licenses, so the cost savings is nullified."
  • "Work close with your InfraTeam and discuss with Nutanix the best way to achieve sizing and price that are right for you."

I urge all to look past the hot air and hype frenzy that are going on, because in the end, the HC platforms have to be aligned and congruent to the organization’s data architecture and business plans. The announcement of Gartner’s latest Magic Quadrant on Integrated Systems (read hyper convergence) has put Nutanix as the leader of the pack as of August 2015. Clearly, many of us get caught up because it is the “greatest feeling in the world”. However, this faux feeling is not reality because there are many factors that made the pack leaders in the Magic Quadrant (MQ). First of all, the MQ is about market perception. There is no doubt that the pack leaders in the Leaders Quadrant have earned their right to be there. Each company’s revenue, market share, gross margin, company’s profitability have helped put each as leaders in the pack. However, it is also measured by branding, marketing, market perception and acceptance and other intangible factors. Secondly, VMware EVO: Rail has split the market when EMC has 3 HC solutions in VCE, ScaleIO and EVO: Rail. Cisco wanted to do their own HC piece in Whiptail (between the 2014 MQ and 2015 MQ reports), and closed down Whiptail when their new CEO came on board. NetApp chose EVO: Rail and also has the ever popular FlexPod. That is why you see that in… Read more →
